Hi, Kindly tell how many Ph.D. applicants will be admitted to CIS this year and how many have already been admitted? How do I know if my applications has been successfully considered in the departmental review? Regards,
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Hi Guest. I'm sorry, but we don't provide either of those numbers during the application cycle. I can tell you that last year we admitted 85, approximately 10% of the applicants. And you will know because you'll receive a positive decision.

Can we know about the status of our application? I mean if it is under consideration or not
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:45
Maede, you can log into your application and check your status - if it says "ready for review," that means it's been sent to the department for review.

I'd like to also know what sources of funding are possible if I'm possibly doing a masters in robotics. On the main page it said there's no departmental funding.

How can we find information about on-campus housing specially for married couples both studying at Upenn
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Maede, you'd want to look at the on-campus housing site: http://cms.business-services.upenn.edu/residential-services/applicatio...

Hi Will, do you know what the acceptance rate for the BioE Ph.D is, and  whether there's a formal interview for that department or if it varies by faculty member?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:52
Guest, last year the acceptance rate was approximately 13.5%, and the year before that it was 15%. To my knowledge, the formal interview is done for all BE PhD candidates. Ultimately, however, this is done through the department directly, so I wouldn't necessarily be aware if it has changed for this year.

Are all the PhD offers for Chemical Engineering made? Or is there any waitlist?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:53
Bevy, I am unable to provide you with that answer. All applicants will receive a decision.

I have applied to Electrical engineering PhD program so the status : submitted( in green) does means the evaluation has not started yet?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:53
Guest, you can email admissions1@seas.upenn.edu for more information - your status should say ready for review at this point.

Hello, Will! Does Penn typically expect faculty to conduct interviews prior to decisions - or is the admission decision made without faculty input? I applied to the Mechanical Engineering PhD program.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:54
Hi Owen, to my knowledge, all PhD decisions are made with faculty input.

Asking on behalf of my friend who has applied for MSE in Robotics. His recommender had submitted the recommendation way back in December 2019, today he got an email stating that recommender has "revised" the recommendation, when he called the recommender he said that he just clicked on it to "review" and then submitted it back again. Can this be a problem and will it affect anything?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:54
Gaurav, no, this shouldn't be an issue.
Olivia Turk
10:53
Hi Will, I just checked my application and it says "submitted", not "ready for review". Am I looking in the wrong area?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:54
Olivia, no, I don't believe so. To what program did you apply?
