Hard to see right now. I'm passing on it.

Mixed League 5x5 - quickie for you.. just lost Betts, better replacement - Jorge Polanco or Andres Gimenez?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Before I heard of Polanco's foot troubles, would have been him. But that worries me. Gimenez, then.

General question:  At what point do you start giving YTD results more weight than preseason projections?  I'm still about 80-20 in favor of preseason results and will probably be 20-80 by the end of the month.  Is that about right, too slow, too fast?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Probably too fast. Guys can struggle or get bit by BABIP or whatever for an entire year, let alone a month. No right answer, but I'd probably be closer to 50/50 by May 1. BUT ... also depends on the player; I'd treat an 8-year vet with an established track record who's starting slow differently than a Top-20 prospect who is striking out a ton and hitting .220. Definitely worth thinking about, though.

I greatly appreciate your chats and Ray's. But would your answers on a sizeable number (20%) of chat questions be substantially different if you didn't respond in real time? If BHQ writers could instead look at underlying stats (when necessary on some questions) and take more time to analyze, would the answers be better?  Perhaps this rolling chat could be a different type of format?
Brent Hershey
12:41
Interesting concept ... maybe we should incorporate some sort of written 'mailbag' column into our site rotation? I'll mull that a bit; thank you!

How do you feel about Gallen's 2 start week @NYM and @PHI this week in a 12 team mixed?  Can pop in Pepiot assuming he makes it back this week for a start.
Brent Hershey
12:42
If it's just between those two, I'd stick with the known (Gallen) rather than the hope that Pepiot makes it back.

Hi Brent-NL only, drafted a team without a closer. 5x5 trying to get ahead of what could happen (better sooner than later) with the sf and arizona pens. seems that Killian has been pitching very well but seems to get little respect in future closer talk and to rate killian, morello winn and loaisga (and anyone else you think outside of seward walker and puk). thanks- have a good week
Brent Hershey
12:49
Killian does feel like the best of that bunch; arsenal has really ticked up in relief, which is what you kinda look for. Winn, Loaisiga and then Morello is how I'd rate the rest.

Brent, you've been missed! Have 3 quick-hitters I've been meaning to ask you.

  1. Travis Bazzana in an OBP/AVG dynasty league. You in? How good can he be?
  2. Cole Young (2B) has flashed so far. Should I believe?
  3. Joe Boyle, Parker Messick, Jose Soriano. How do you rank these 3? Could they all be good?

Thank you!!
Brent Hershey
12:53
Missed? Been here for a while, Judley! :-) No worries, tho ...

  1. Yes in dynasty. Seems like a classic bat-first 2B. Prob more a solid regular than a star at this point
  2. Yes! Seattle kept the position open for him all winter, bat metrics have backed up his early performance. Will regress some, but think he's the new 2B going forward
  3. Soriano, Messick, Boyle. They all could step forward; Boyle would move up a spot or two if we knew he could throw strikes. Could happen, but career has been erratic so far.

Thanks!

Also, getting worried about Durbin.. would you flip Sewald for any of Alex Bohm, Royce Lewis, Max Muncy (ath), Ernie Clement and rank which one I want most ? if any? THANKS!
Brent Hershey
12:54
Bohm if you favor stability and more R/RBI. Lewis if you're seeking pure upside and know the injury risk. Muncy/Clement could work also but might as well just wait on Durbin (it's early!) in that case.

Scoresheet 10 team dynasty NL league.  Should I be starting:  Marsee or Crawford or Caissie?  Don't know if I can trust yet the solid starts of Crawford and Caissie, but my "protected" Marsee is certainly dogging it big time.  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:58
It's between the two Marlins. Marsee's D is a nice add in Scoresheet. Caisse is a strong-side platooner for now, so just know that. I'd wait for more info on Crawford before slotting him in.
Brent Hershey
12:58
Whew; still a bunch here ... will try to keep answers short the rest of the way ...

Yes! The chat is back, baby!!

I'm in a dynasty h2h category league with the following categories: avg, obp, slg, r, rbi, sb.

I'm in the "building" stage and looking to shop an OF. I can dangle L. Butler or C. Benge. WHo do u like better long-term?

appreciate ur help!
Brent Hershey

Benge

What do you think of Adolis Garcia’s early season skills/results in PHI?

Fine so far. Gonna hit some bombs in Philly

Need to cut one in a 12 tm mixed 5x5 roto; Manzardo, Shanuel, Wallner, J Crawfod
Brent Hershey

Manzardo

Thoughts on Jack Flaherty in 15-team league? Hold or go the streamer route? Some 5th starter types are out there (Junk, Arrighetti, Gil, Vazquez, N. Martinez).
Brent Hershey

Like Arrighetti or Vasquez over Flaherty

5x5 12 team mixed h2h cats - who would you pluck from the SP pool to fill out back of rotation? - Abel / Sh Smith / Pfaadt / S Burke / Keller / Springs / Kikuchi
Brent Hershey

Burke right now

Where do you see Hyesong Kim fitting in with the Dodgers long term? Regular? 400 AB utility man? Lesser utility piece? Trade bait?
Brent Hershey
1:01
Lesser utility piece; short-side platooner for now

Saves/Holds league equal weight. Rank these three. Brooks Raley. Bryan Baker. Tanner Scott. Thanks

AL only... What is your prediction for when they call up Colt Emerson?

What do you think the chances are that Luis Medina gets turned into a leverage reliever for the A's like Mason Miller was?  In LAA, what do you think of Silseth and Bachman moving forward?  Romano has the saves but apparently hasn't looked good doing it.
Brent Hershey
1:03
Medina - trouble throwing strikes. Low chance
Bachman > Silseth for me, but think they push Romano as far as they can

AL only, standard rotis with keepers. Is a Kyle Isbel breakout happening, given his increases in launch angle, exit velocity, barrel rate, and fly ball rate? Obviously the BA won’t last, but do the shorter fences in KC bode well given these other factors? Thanks as always.
Brent Hershey

Noticed this last week ... a bit (not a ton) of interesting bat speed and tracking metrics uptick in addition to what you point out here. Super cheap if you want to take a flyer now on a strict strong side platoon guy

Can Aringhetti be someone to grab in shallower 12 team mixed leagues??
Brent Hershey

In 12s I'd probably wait a start or two
