This is our 35th consecutive season. Mixed 15 team 5X5. No question - just need to be talked off the ledge after sitting in last place after 2.5 weeks. Underperformers include Votto, Hoskins, Mondesi, Molina, Vazquez, Garcia. Yikes!
Brent Hershey
12:44
Congrats on the longevity. Remember all the knowledge you gained over those years as to the importance of just 2.5 weeks! :-) FWIW, I'm probably most worried about Mondesi/Molina on that list ... but again ... patience for those vets.

12 team 5x5: Paddack or Erod ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Rodriguez right now. Need to see more of Paddack to be convinced he's back on track.

JP Crawford off to a nice start picking up from a strong finish last year. He’s not suddenly going 20/20 with a 400+ OBP, but do you think his improvements in CT% and BB% could be sustainable?
Brent Hershey
12:46
Mentioned it above; yes, he could well improve his numbers due to some steps forward in approach. Saw some of this in the minors, so have kept an eye on him. Real good returns so far, and will benefit as that lineup will continue to get better around him.

Forecaster had an "up 25 HR/25 SB" on Baddoo.  He's in a strong side platoon now.  Hicks and Mateo, among others, are available in my home league.  What do you think?
Brent Hershey
12:48
Remember that UPs in the Forecaster are best-case scenarios. That's still in play, but I'd probably choose both of those two options over Baddoo right now. Hicks is underrated, and Mateo's SB totals are for real and he's showing enough to hold that SS job. Would be a tougher decision in a keeper format -- though Mateo, specifically, is younger that you might think.

Too early to panic on Dansby Swanson? I noticed he got off to a slow start last year, but the potential "dead ball" scares me with him.
Brent Hershey
12:50
Yes, too early to panic, but there are some concerns for sure. Most places I'd still be holding, given his track record, the moderate pop/speed potential, and what should be a VG lineup. But I hear ya.

Who do you prefer for this year, Naquin or Senzel? Would you trade Naquin/Senzel (each $1) plus A. Wood for M. Ozuna in an NL-only 5x5 keeper league?
Brent Hershey
12:53
This year -- Naquin; Senzel has to prove his health for me. BUT ... don't think I'd make that trade unless proven power is like the ONLY thing you need, b/c there's multiple paths to those $1 salaries being REALLY valuable going forward. EX: Senzel proves his health, gets 450 AB; that's a super keeper value I'd think for 2023.

12 team mixed 5x5: Rank 'em: Bohm, Torkelson, I. Happ, L. Urias. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:54
This yr: Torkelson, Happ, Bohm, Urias
Longterm: probably the same, though could see Bohm>Happ
Brent Hershey
12:55
Whew ... am not going to get to everything, but will bang out quickies for another 15 mins here.

In AL-only league. Does Vidal Brujan have much of an impact this year? BBHQ forecasts just 84 ABs.
Brent Hershey
12:56
Think he gets more ABs than that, but hunch is that he'll up/down us to death and that will limit his impact. Sadly.

Is Tyler Beede worth a stash in deep NL only? He’s been nothing short of awful in SSS so far this year, but is there a chance the Giants’ pitch-whisperers can fix him?
Brent Hershey
12:57
Stash-worthy for the seasons you state; yes.

12:58
Hi Brent.  What do you make of Trevor Rogers's slow start?  I just traded Joey Gallo (also off to a slow start, but still hitting the ball hard) for him in a 5X5 redraft OBP league, where Gallo is pretty valuable (.351 OBP with 38 homers last year).  Did I give up too much for a pitcher with such a short track record?
Brent Hershey
12:58
No; I'd rather have Rogers. Better chance for across-the-board impact, even in an OBP lg
Bob
12:58
How long would you hold Witt Jr. in a 14 team league?
Brent Hershey
12:58
I'd probably give him another couple weeks at least

Happy Monday!

Hoping to get your ranking on the following pitchers/hitters in a 12-team H2H points league.

Hitters:
Dalbec, Adell, Baddoo, JP Crawford

Pitchers (Note: 6 points for quality starts):
Ober, Ashby, Pineda, Eflin

Thanks, as always.
Brent Hershey

Crawford, Dalbec, Adell, Baddoo (PT concerns for last 2 -- and maybe Dalbec soon, also)

Eflin, Ober, Pineda, Ashby

Good morning, Brent: who is a better speculations for saves this year, Burke or Sulser?  Also, what is chance that Junis can thrive in SF?
Brent Hershey
1:01
Burke ... though it's close (and both are long shots)

Decent chance ... though will his deployment be fantasy-friendly???

12 team AL-only; traditional 5X5.  In an AL-only league what ROS value do you see for Willi Castro and Vidal Brujan?  Do you think either could turn into a super-utility guy this year?  They both have SB ability, a rarity in the AL these days.  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
1:02
Despite earlier answer/questions about Bruján, he's my choice here. Just think he's a better hitter than W Castro

12 team AL only; traditional 5X5.  Curious to hear your outlook for Daulton Jefferies.  I know his Statcast metrics are not great but he is a strike thrower in a good park.  Can he be a viable 5th starter in an AL only league or is he better left off the roster?
Brent Hershey
1:03
Yes, especially in AL onlys he can be a viable #5. Think there's a chance he's a matchup-dependent guy in 15tm mixed, too. Will get a shot for sure.

Speed rounder stinker: hold your nose and pick a replacement C for power centric weekly points league: A. Hedges, Higashioka, or M. Maldonado?
Brent Hershey
1:04
Higashioka; friendliest schedule this wk

Thought on Profar? Just a short sample? The plate skills + hard contact looks exciting.
Brent Hershey
1:05
Yes to all. Not chasing him, but certainly holding if I have him already. Pedigree is worth something, even at this point in his career.

Thanks for all you do, Brent!   Question on Mickey Moniak.  When he comes back, do you see good PT for him, and thoughts on his batting potential this year?  (in NL-only league 12 team)
Brent Hershey
1:07
Really depends ... got the sense management was coming around to him end of spring, and that he'd get that CF shot. Now ... who knows if that shot still exists or not. DO know that a mechanical change (positioned closer to the plate) transformed him into a different-looking hitter. I'd hold in hopes of that in a NL-only
