Do you have any suggestions for work experience I should do If I want to apply for accounting and finance? since it’s difficult at the moment to find work experience
AvatarMolly

@Guest yes!

Hi @ A.A. Oh that's a shame. All of the other healthcare related sessions are now fully booked unfortunately. But we do usually offer something midwifery/nursing related later in the cycle...

Is there going to be a virtual summer school
AvatarMolly
4:19
@Lois yep, that's correct. Universities look at your qualifications first and foremost, but they also look at things like your personal statement and any extra curricular awards/activities you do

Okay thank you

What is the Leeds minister trip
AvatarMatthew
4:20
Hi @guest. The summer school will be in person and not online this year.

I would like to do a medicine or dentistry program in the february half term but i did not book in on time?
AvatarHaaroon

@Mariam, I would recommend attending the Life Skills event in Easter that will give you information and knowledge on where to find and opportunities and how to apply for them. In the meantime, I would keep on looking online for opportunities, applying for as many as you can. Maybe look into taking some virtual training courses

@Guest the Leeds Minster trip is our Schools' Question Time event - the day is primarily politics, philosophy and ethics themed, but will be hugely beneficial for anyone wanting to study a humanity or a social science

How many people are usually allowed to come onto the summer school? Will it be first come first served?
umayyah

The course I want to do doesn't take into consideration an EPQ. But will doing it still increase my UCAS points?
AvatarMatthew
4:22
Hi @guest. Oh no, sorry to hear that. As I'm sure you can imagine the medicine/dentistry events are always extremely popular so they tend to fill up quite quickly. There will be other opportunities at Easter.

Thank you

4:22
Hi, will there be any events linked to radiography?
AvatarMolly
4:22
@Robert there are 100 places, and you fill out an application for it so it's not first come first served - we look at how many events you have attended with us across the year and also what you say in your application
A.A
4:22
when do you start to offer the nursing and midwifery ones
AvatarHaaroon
4:23
@umayyah, the University of Leeds doesn't give offers based on UCAS points but based on grades. While the course you want to apply for may not accept the EPQ, it is beneficial to do and would be seen as an extra on your application
AvatarMatthew
4:23
Hi @Somaia. We don't run anything specifically related to radiography but there is usually a general alternatives to medicine session which usually covers it.

If my gcse grades have not met some requirements e.g maths for a certain course, would my a levels and BMAT make up for it?

If I can't come to an event after booking it, will I be removed from the scheme if I notify beforehand.
AvatarMolly
4:24
@A.A we will be trying to get these organised in our Easter event block and Summer School - it can be very difficult to arrange these sessions as the staff who work in these areas are super busy at the minute
I promise we will do our best though!
Guest
4:24
how many places are available for the summer school and what are some ways that will increase my chance of getting in
AvatarMolly
4:25
@Guest see my answer above - "there are 100 places, and you fill out an application for it so it's not first come first served - we look at how many events you have attended with us across the year and also what you say in your application"
Guest

What happens at the summer school
AvatarMatthew
4:26
Hi @Shazia. No, of course not! We understand that things come up at the last minute, but as some of the sessions have waiting lists we do ask that you give us 48 hours notice if you're unable to attend so we can offer the opportunity to others.
Somaia
4:26
Thank you
Guest
4:26
since I'm on the waiting list atm, does that mean I will be prioritised for the Easter holiday?
AvatarMolly
4:26
@Guest on the Summer School you come and stay in our halls of residence and have the chance to attend loads of different sessions during the day, plus enrichment opportunities and social events in the evenings - it's basically trying to give you a taster of what uni life is like all in the space of a week!

Hi, when will we be emailed our timetables for the following week of events in the week commencing Monday 21st February?
AvatarHaaroon
4:26
@Guest, it would depend on what GCSE subjects you are not meeting the requirements in. Your A-levels would make up for it only for example, you got a 4 in GCSE Maths but an A in A-level Maths. If medicine is the course you are interested in I would email the admissions team: ugmadmissions@leeds.ac.uk
Guest
4:27
How many places are there remaining in the Leeds minister trip
AvatarMatthew
4:27
Hi @Guest. The events during Easter will be totally different so we can't carry any priority over. You just need to make sure you're quicker off the mark next time!
A.A
4:27
okay thank youu
