Howdy, Friday chatters! Thanks for joining here as we're definitely in the dog days ... keep on grinding. A quick plug for our First Pitch Arizona conference in November; now's the time to plan. All the details at the link; a discount deadline of next Friday is approaching. That out of way, let's get to your questions!

Jack Perkins or JT Ginn ROS?  or neither considering that ballpark?  Will they help or hurt ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:04
Pretty intrigued by both, but yes, the ballpark is something to navigate for sure. Perkins has the shorter track record, but right now I give him the slight skills edge; he's looked pretty good the times I've seen him pitch. Not a blind start every week, but I think he can help.

Brent, thank you! AL only 4x4 keeper league.Alvarez due back shortly for Houston , ROS thoughts on him?and will Beavers be worth a pick up for ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:10
Alvarez -- pretty much one huge "shrug" emoji. He's missed so much time, and one hopes that he is truly over the injury and not just gutting it out to get back. But if you've held him all year (in a keeper league, this is certainly the case), you put him in there once he's active and just roll with it.

Beavers -- I worry about BAL's treatment of other likely-skilled rookies upon their initial callups. I'm more likely to take a shot on a Mayo type (who's been through more of the 'initiation' phase). Though if you're playing for 2026 and beyond, wouldn't hurt to roster Beavers and just see what transpires.

NL-only league.  I am in a tight race, need to keep piling up wins and Ks without sacrificing ERA/WHIP.  Should I start Junk or Liberatore to try to get the counting stats, or leave them on the bench so they do not hurt my ratios?  Thank you so much for your help!
Brent Hershey
12:15
Ahh, the Eternal August Question. The issue with Junk/Liberatore specifically is that their team contexts aren't really conducive to chasing the Wins part of what you need (though realizing that in an NL-only, your pickin's are slim). Skills (as a proxy for ERA/WHIP) favor Junk in being a bit less risky on the ratio side. Probably worth a shot.

PCA...? In your view, Brent, does this nosedive simply a question of holes in his bat being discovered, requiring him to figure it out, or something more long term?
Brent Hershey
12:18
Not worried long-term; this is part of the adjustment phase. He's shown he can make tweaks (started slow); which points to ability to do that again. Will it be in time to help this season? Hard to say. The one constant for him will be PT b/c of the defense ... and his SB totals continue to be there, which helps in many cases. But no, not worried long-term.

12:25
Brent, what do you anticipate Dyl Crews will become over the next year? Any attempt at comps?
Brent Hershey
12:25
I'm a fan; another guy with a rough start but he was staring to put it together before the injury. Not coming up with a super comp, but feel like he could put up a 2024-era Jackson Merrill line next season.

Thanks for the chat, Brent. 12 team mixed ROS, please rank Barger, Muncy (LAD), and Rafaela.
Brent Hershey
12:25
Barger, Rafaela, Muncy (mainly b/c of the injury history)

Dynasty points league that penalizes hitters for Ks and strongly rewards SP for Ks. Next 5 years.....Roman Anthony or Nick Kurtz........Eury Perez or The Mizz. Thanks and have a killer weekend!
Brent Hershey
12:27
Anthony (all around game) and Perez (not as much pure K upside; but until TJS overall a healthier profile). Pitcher duo closer than the hitter one given your context, though.

With a lot of help from you and Ray, I am sitting in 1st place in a 14-team mixed 6x6 roto keeper league coming down the stretch.  I watched Marsee destroy my hometown Guardians and have to consider adding him to a logjam created by IL returns and the impending return of Crews.                            Right now I have a lineup with:       1b/3b/CI Pasquantino, Chisholm & Romy Gonzalez, 2b L. Garcia, MI Arraez, 5-OF Anthony, Dominguez, Wood, Arozarena & Julio Rodriguez, 2-UT Doyle & Mountcastle, Bench - Burger.        I need to drop 1 or two if I activate Crews and pick up Marsee, but who?                          1) If I dump Garcia or Arraez, I could move Chisholm to 2b/MI.    2) If I don't do that, who stays at CI?  Gonzalez, Mountcastle and/or Burger?
3) Who do I keep in the outfield between Arozarena, Rodriguez, Dominguez. Anthony, Wood, Doyle, Crews & Masee?  Can only keep 5of, one UT and one bench.  Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:34
Romy is the first for me drop for me; Crews > Marsee the pickup. Move Burger to CI.
In OF/DH Doyle v Marsee is the call you have to make. I might slightly lean Doyle (track record), though Marsee could end up a very similar type of player. Good luck!

What do you think about Colson Montgomery and Daulton Varsho for the rest of the season?
Brent Hershey
12:35
C-Mont - will come off this crazy heater at some point and could well go through a significant slump due to all the Ks. But too hot to sit right now.
Varsho - should play as along as stays healthy, HRs a plus; BA not so much. But... great team context, which should assist counting stats.

12:37
Thanks for the chat, Brent. 12 team mixed ROS. Which two to drop of Ward, Adell, Merrill, Crews, Cedric Mullins and Michael Harris?
Brent Hershey
12:37
Mullins and Ward (Ward and Adell kinda redundant -- power w/ questionable BA). Quite the turnaround for Harris; think ya gotta ride that for now.

What are your thoughts on House and Freeland long-term? Do you think Freeland eventually ends up as a starter and at what position? Just on long-term talent alone, would you rather have House or Freeland? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:43
House - contact-challenged slugger who will be hot/cold, but likely to secure a full-time position (3B) in WAS before Freeland does in LA.
Freeland - depends on if he stays in LA or if they deal him in the next year or so. If he stays in LA, he becomes the next Gavin Lux / Michael Busch / Daulton Rushing - b/c of the Dodgers talent level and deep checkbook, there will always be a more expensive guy coming in that will keep him from a FT job that he'd otherwise have in another org. Eventually they will trade him away, and you'll have to guess (like with Lux this year) just how he'll turn out. A bit of a winded response, but ...
Talent: probably House, given his power tool. But not a slam dunk.

Melton of Astros or Clarke of A’s as better 2026 fantasy player?
Brent Hershey
12:43
Clarke of the A's. Will get more chances to hit; pure athleticism ups the chances of him figuring it out with the stick.

Hi Brent,  what do see from Nola ROS in a 6-man rotation? Is he an upgrade over Pepiot or Gore?  Also, in a SOLDs format, do you prefer Megill or Bednar to J. Romero?
Brent Hershey
12:47
Nola > Gore (who I think continues to fade when he doesn't face the Giants). Probably Nola > Pepiot, too, though that's closer. Wins potential helps. ROS for Nola: in the range of 3.75-4.00 ERA; 1.15 WHIP. Skills were not nearly as bad as results before he got hurt.

Bednar, then Megill, then Romero would be my rank

hi Brent, thank you for taking my question. For ROS, should I #1 draft Del Castillo and drop Higashioka; #2 please rank Vest, Topa, Vodnik, Ferrer, Faucher; #3 please rank Mclean, T Wells Povich, Waldrep, Cantillo?
Brent Hershey
12:48
1) yes
2) Vest, Ferrer, Faucher, Vodnik
3) Cantillo, Waldrep, Povich, Wells, McLean

Hi Brent,
Happy Friday!
1. 5X5 NFBC. Not getting much production from Dubon or Luis Garcia. Are any of the following better choices ROS? Baty, Sanoja, DeJong, Hernaiz, J. Ortiz.
2. It’s breakfast time here on the left coast. Which goes better with perusing BBHQ: Eggos or scambled eggs?
Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:51
  1. Ortiz hitting a ton lately, and has last year on his ledger. He or Hernaiz should be an upgrade.
  2. Scrambled eggs for sure. Now, if you were MAKING your waffles with some fresh berries or fruit, then we can talk.

Is Randy Rodriguez ever going to pitch again for the Giants? His last appearance was Aug. 6. He was supposed to be the biggest RP winner of the trade deadline.
Brent Hershey
12:52
That might be contingent on SF having a lead.

NL only, obp league.  FFermin will be the starter ROS?  I am thinking he is worth picking up?
Brent Hershey
12:53
Worth considering even in mixed leagues, I think, so no doubt in an NL only. Not 100% convinced he's a FT starter, but my gut says he gets the bulk of em

In a forever Dynasty, my OF is Acuna, Carroll, PCA, Wood and Buxton.  I picked up Harris when Buxton hit the IL.  A month ago this would not have been a question, but Harris has been reborn.  I can only keep five.  Who would you drop?
Brent Hershey
12:55
In a dynasty, only one even worth considering is Buxton, and that's if you believe in injury-prone players. I'd not love it, but grit my teeth and push Harris and his inconsistency to the curb.

H2H Dynasty standard 5 plus OBP, Ks, and TB.  I have Grisham ($3) and O. Cruz ($10) for CF and O'Hearn ($5) and Moniak ($1).   CF FA are Pham, Dubon, McNeil. W. Perez.  RF FA are Castellanos, Castro, and Larnach.
Brent Hershey
12:56
Wenceel is a CF upgrade. Like Larnach the best out of the RF, but don't think I'd move off the others.

NL only, HOLDs league.  I picked up DRobertson with hopes of HOLDS.  But he is mopping up so far.  You think they will move him to higher leverage (especially considering the $ they are paying him?).
