% chance of the Jays signing Aaron Judge?

does Ryu get released or is there no benefit in doing so?  who goes, Guriel(sp) or Teo?   does Stripling stay or go elsewhere   enjoy your evening
Mark P
8:00
The Jays are paying Ryu anyway, and he might yet make it back towards the end of 2023.  No  reason to release him.

Hard to predict which of the OFs (if any) get dealt.  Hernandez has more trade value, in all likelihood, but he's also the guy I would imagine Toronto would prefer to keep.
Jason
8:01
Has Manoah shown us enough to warrant an extension, or should they just roll the dice through arbitration?
Mark P
8:01
Fully expect the Jays to explore an extension with Manoah.  It takes two to tango on such a deal, but locking him up would seem like a smart move
Jason
8:02
Who are some legit trade partners for the Blue Jays to add some left handed hitting outfielders or a 2nd basemen and/or pitching depth?
Mark P
8:02
Hypothetically, teams with a surplus of left-handed bats (i.e. the Giants, Diamondbacks, Twins) could all be fits.

8:03
what sorts of pieces would the jays be willing to deal from their farm system? given their pitching problems tiedemann should be untouchable, but is everyone else up for grabs?
Mark P
8:04
Tiedemann is almost surely not being dealt, you're right. Beyond that, doesn't seem like Brandon Berriera is going anywhere, or probably any of the higher-rated pitchers.  (Arms are too valuable for the Jays.)
Glenn
8:05
Jays should pry Burnes from Brew Crew. Teo/Jansen for Burnes/Wong would be smart
Mark P
8:06
Milwaukee would want way more than that for Burnes
Nomar11

What about signed Conforto?
Mark P
8:08
Conforto is a player I'm thinking might be on the Jays' radar, since they had interest in him last winter.  He almost surely wouldn't cost much more than a one-year deal, and he's a left-handed bat.

However, it's also an open question as to how he'll perform after missing an entire season (and having an off-year in 2021).  Plus, Conforto can play center field in a pinch but he's much better suited to a corner OF spot, and the Jays are already set at those positions barring a trade or two

8:08
Jo Adell for Cavan a potentially mutually beneficial trade involving a pair of change-of-scenery candidates?
Mark P
8:09
Jo Adell question, bingo!

The Angels wouldn't make that trade.  Adell was a top-five or higher prospect, whereas Biggio was well-regarded but not even a top-100 type
Ohtani
8:10
If the Jays were to put an offer to the Angels, what would be the package for him?
T.O
8:10
Would you trade Bo/Kirk for Ohtani?
Mark P
8:12
Lot of Ohtani questions in the chat tonight, so let's just state that I doubt he's being traded at all.  If he was available, he's also a unique player for trade value purposes.  But, moving Bichette and Kirk for one year of Ohtani is too steep for Toronto.

Would something centred around Danny Jansen be enough to get Alek Thomas from the snakes? Dbacks gets righty power, Jays get a long term left fielder who bats left
Mark P
8:16
As a Jays fan, believe me, I've been strongly looking at Arizona's roster to try and figure out trade possibilities.  :)

Carroll is probably untouchable, barring something wild like a Carrroll-for-Moreno straight-up swap.  Varsho is probably also unlikely to be moved.  That leaves Jake McCarthy, who seems like a nice player but maybe ultimately a platoon or fourth-outfielder type, and then Thomas as maybe a difference maker.

Thomas is still unproven at the MLB level, so he's something of a risk for a Blue Jays team that wants to win in 2023.  I also think the D'Backs try to hold out for Kirk rather than Jansen in trade talks
Ross Stripling
8:18
Everyone seems to think I'll be gone.  Why?
Mark P
8:19
The Jays already have a good chunk of money invested in the rotation, and there are enough other pitching-needy teams that Stripling will draw plenty of offers
BlueJayMatt
8:19
Does Ross Atkins extend the QO to Stripling?
Mark P
8:20
I've come to think there might be a slightly better chance of Stripling getting a QO, with the Jays either hoping he accepts or (if he rejects) they can at least get a draft pick back if he does leave.

However, Stripling taking the QO would basically eat up all the rest of the Jays' space under the luxury tax line, if that's a concern.
The return of Thor
8:21
Bring me back 10 years after the Dickey deal. Seems like the type of bounce back move the Jays typically do, no?
Mark P
8:23
That would be a really interesting signing.  I'd say Syndergaard has less to "bounce back" from, necessarily, since he was still pretty decent in 2022 if not at his old ace level.  A lot of teams will be looking at him this winter, including most likely the Jays

8:23
any possible way the jays can dump ryu or kikuchis contracts to open up payroll space?
Mark P
8:25
Not outside of a deal for another undesirable contract.

As I noted, however, payroll might not be a huge concern for the Jays.  Also, those two pitchers aren't huge albatrosses --- Ryu is owed $20MM but only through 2023, and Kikuchi is owed $10MM both in 2023 and 2024.

Possibility of Jays signing Brantley in offseason for a lefty bat, as it almost happened already two years ago
Mark P
8:27
Maybe, though Brantley is an obvious question mark after his injury-shortened season.

Also, it's possible there might be some hard feelings about Brantley within the Jays front office, given the somewhat unusual way that situation played out two years ago
Missisauga
8:28
Obviously what's done is done, but do you think there was anything the Jays could have realistically done to abate the collapse in the second wild card game?
Mark P
8:28
Sure, as any number of small decisions could've completely changed the outcome.  It just that basically everything that could've gone wrong for the Blue Jays went wrong, in a game they normally win 99 times out of 100
TheTexasBlueJay
8:29
If Kirk were to be traded to the Brewers, what would the Jays get in return?
Mark P
8:31
If the Jays are aiming big, they're involving Kirk as part of a trade for Burnes or Woodruff.  Doubt they'd move Kirk for one of the Ashby/Lauer/Peralta/Houser group, since while those are good pitchers in their own right, the Blue Jays would be trying to land a true frontline arm for Kirk
Otto Lopez
8:31
On to my next organisation?
Mark P
8:33
Lopez is a player I'd personally like to see get more MLB playing time in 2023.  Especially with his versatility, I think he can bring something to the table for a team that needs a lot of bench help
Insurance?
8:33
There's been a few rumblings about how ryu's injury could be covered by insurance.  If it is, does that affect the jays cap at all, or is it just a matter of who pays?
Mark P
8:33
Doesn't impact the luxury tax number.  It would just mean that the Jays get the actual dollars back from the insurance company.

Can you put together a package for ohtani from the blue Jay's?
