Ohtani and Adell for Bichette and Hernandez?

I don't think the Angels would do that, but I just think it would be a funny punchline to the years of Jo Adell trade rumors in my chats if Adell ended up on my favorite team.

Tax line is 233M (not 232M as you said earlier).

Doh!  So it is

Dave Cameron @ Fangraphs once said that Blue Jays fans are the most rabid and will read anything written about the Jays, do you find the same on mlbtr?
Mark P
8:37
I've only done a few of these team-centric chats, but this is far and away the most people I've had in any of them, and it's on a Saturday night during a WS game (and a Maple Leafs game).  Jays fans love their team.
(Or, love to complain about their team!)

How long before Springer moves to a corner?
Mark P
8:39
I wouldn't be totally shocked if he spends at least a third of 2023 in a corner OF role, if the Jays get another CF-capable player (or maybe just use Merrifield in the role) and one of Hernandez/Gurriel are dealt

Forget about the hitting, they're fine but they don't have the pitching needed to win the division do they?
Mark P
8:40
Gausman/Manoah is still a strong 1-2, and Berrios can be more than fine as a #3 if he gets back to his pre-2022 self.
8:41
Obviously big questions with the 4th and 5th spots, but at least up top, the Jays are in good shape

Happ for Jansen or Kirk. Who says no?
Mark P
8:43
Cubs say yes to Kirk, likely no to Jansen.  Jays say yes to Jansen, no to Kirk.

Happ is only controlled through 2023, remember.  So the Jays aren't moving Kirk for only one year of Happ's services.  Jansen is controlled through 2024, so there's a bit more of a fit from Toronto's perspective

Do you think Bellinger could be a trade target?
Mark P
8:45
Bellinger for Kikuchi is a scenario a friend of mine recently floated to me, which I kind of love except the Dodgers might prefer to rehab a struggling pitcher who has a lower price tag.
8:46
Also, it's possible LA non-tenders Bellinger altogether, so the Jays wouldn't have to make a trade offer.  Obviously there's risk in acquiring a player who hasn't hit in two years, and I'm not sure "change of scenery" is the issue for Bellinger, as opposed to his health

Thoughts on if they'll finally give up on Nate Pearson being a starter and allow him to be a potential late inning option?
Mark P
8:47
At this point they just need to get Pearson healthy and accumulating any sort of consistent game action.  The ship may have already sailed on Pearson as a starter, so relief weapon would be an interesting plan B

Jansen for Kepler work?
Mark P
8:48
Kepler has enough holes in his swing and approach that I don't think he'll necessarily improve all that much in a new ballpark, or with the new shift rules.
Just my opinion, however.  The Jays might well have a totally different take on Kepler as a possible breakout in a new environment

Signing Nimmo not a Blue Jays kind of move?  Too costly?
Mark P
8:52
Good left-handed bat, but there some risks given Nimmo's injury history and the fact that his CF glove is ok but not great (depending on which defensive metric you prefer).

He's also going to cost over $100MM, and a draft pick via the qualifying offer.  You'd think if the Blue Jays were going to replace Springer in center field, they'd want a more clear-cut defensive upgrade

Do we win the WS next year since the playoffs are completely random?
Mark P
8:53
As long as a team can get into the bracket, they have a chance

We've gone to almost 90 minutes with this chat as a nod to all the extra questions and activity, but it's time to wrap things up.  Thanks for all the queries, and the regular Weekend Chat (about all things baseball) is penciled in for tomorrow evening, so stay tuned.  And, keep watching for more team-centric ctats throughout the next few weeks!
