Patriots lost a HOF TE in Gronk and didn't miss a beat.  What happened to our TE passing game?  Jesse James can't be that big of an impact, can he?
Brian Batko
12:35
Yeah, the lack of involvement with Vance McDonald was a bit of a mystery. He played 71 percent of the offensive snaps. Xavier Grimble played just two snaps total. Maybe they should trade for Ryan Izzo once the Pats get their guys back.

What game outcome was more surprising to you, The Browns -Titans, Cardinals-Lions, Steelers-Patriots ?
Brian Batko
12:36
Browns-Titans, no doubt. The first-team Tennessee offense looked horrendous against Steelers in the preseason. And then they go and beat up the Browns at home. Strange, but Browns.

Brian,  Butler will be the main reason Tomlin at some point will no longer be with the Steelers.  His ineptitude in preparing and adjusting game plans is a big reason for this teams defensive struggles.  Sure coaches do not play but players need a plan in place to give them the best chance of success.  What say you?
Brian Batko
12:37
I say that this franchise would move on from Keith Butler first and give Mike Tomlin a chance with a different DC before they got rid of both in one fell swoop.

What is the answer/adjustment to stopping the Edleman crossing routes?  We just can't seem to solve that.
Brian Batko
12:38
Maybe they should've tried switching them? But hey, it's not easy. No one seems to solve it. Edelman catches 900 passes a season. He's good at what he does.

How do you rate Bush’s play as a rookie and that of Baron as new veteran to the team?  Seemed Bush played okay for a rookie, but Baron looked terrible.
Brian Batko
12:40
Yeah I didn't think Devin Bush was a major liability or anything. Mark Barron did look a step slow in trying to cover James White out of the backfield, but a lot of opponents are. There's a reason why he catches 900 passes a season too.

With all the versatility we've been hearing about, why in the world would you ever have Vince Williams in coverage against Gordon?!
Brian Batko
12:40
You've got me stumped on that one.

Hi Brian, safe to assume the season is officially over?
Brian Batko
12:40
Oh, for sure. Just pack it in. Let Mason Rudolph start the final 15 games, or maybe even tank for the No. 1 pick. Fire everyone, too. Almost forgot that.

Well, congratulations to the Patriots on their 7th SB win. That defense, plus AB and Tom Brady is scary good. They will be dismantling the rest of the NFL soon enough. How many SB wins do you think our Big Ben quarterbacked Steelers would have if Tom Brady never played? 10?
Brian Batko
12:41
Obviously. Cancel the rest of the season.
California Bill
12:42
Pats had at least 14 on offense Steelers only had 9 on offense
Brian Batko
12:42
Players? I feel like the refs would've caught that.

How did edmunds play on defense??
Brian Batko
12:43
No one played particularly well. But he showed good closing speed a couple times. Didn't seem like they were completely picking on him or anything.

Did any PG writers (including yourself) pick a Steelers win prior to last night?
Brian Batko
12:44
Ron Cook did. He was kicking himself for it afterward https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/ron-cook/2019/09/08/Ron-Cook-Steel...

Brian,  What the Steeler's office saw in Montcreif is a mystery. The guy was subpar in Jax and he has carried that here.

12:45
Did Moncrief look THAT bad in training camp/practices? 10 targets and only 3 catches for 7 yards. That's awful
LI Steel
12:45
Donte Moncrief should be number 6 on wr depth chart.  guy can't catch.  seen him in a preseason game and last night and he just can't hold on to the ball
Brian Batko
12:46
Yeah, I suppose it's time we move on to the Donte Moncrief portion of this chat. He looked completely out of it last night. I went back and checked and didn't find any noticeable drop issues for him in Indy or Jacksonville, but his catch rate has hovered around 53 percent the past few years. Now, that's catch rate, not drop rate. So, not all of those targets were catchable ones. But still, it was not a good Steelers debut for him at all. He looked better than that in practice, especially this week leading up to the game.

Hi Brian - did Kam Kelly blow his assignment on the long Patriots pass TD?
Brian Batko
12:47
I'm not sure if it was him or Terrell Edmunds. To my untrained and naked eye, it was Kelly. But either way, Mike Hilton was on Dorsett and got beat, from what I could tell. That'll happen, but the safety help over the top was, uh, what's the word I'm looking for. Non-existent?

Hi Brian...now that Dobbs has been traded, do the Steelers go with only two quarterbacks ?  Any idea who they might sign as a backup?
Brian Batko
12:48
Devlin Hodges is available. He's back home duck hunting, I'm pretty sire.
Dlongley44
12:48
Bud Dupree, went against one on one backup tackle and did nothing, basically!!
Brian Batko
12:48
Backup tackle? Isaiah Wynn was the team's first-rounder last year. Missed all his rookie season with an achilles injury. Dupree wasn't good, but let's at least be accurate here.

Where is was Nix? Did he get any snaps?
Brian Batko
12:49
Yes, he got snaps. 18 of them, all on special teams.

Which is the biggest overreaction from week 1: Steelers are in trouble, Browns are in trouble, Ravens will repeat as AFC North champs?
Brian Batko
12:50
Aren't those all the same thing? But seriously, I'd say it's probably the Steelers one, actually. Still not picking them to win the AFC North, but the Browns and Ravens both played tomato cans - problem is, the Browns lost to one. (Apologies in advance if the Titans turn out to be good).

If I was a betting man (and I’m not) I would have bet the Pats to win 99 out of 100 times. Season isn’t over. I’m expecting a much better and angry Steelers team and a win at home next week. Am I the only one?
Brian Batko
12:51
It would seem so.

I’ll pass him off to you, ok, I’ll pass him off then too...is it just possible that this defense is too difficult to learn and or convoluted for the players coming out of the college game?   They obviously can’t xommunicate this defense at game speed
Brian Batko
12:52
Well, there was only one rookie on the field. Two if you count Kam Kelly. One second-year guy in Terrell Edmunds. The rest were vets, more or less. It sure does need to improve, otherwise the Patriots showed the rest of the league's offenses how to pick apart this defense (granted, not everyone will be as good at it as Tom Brady and the boys).
