11-5 what say you?
Brian Batko
2:32
I foresee a lot of close games again, and I don't think the Steelers get to 11.

2:33
After the 3-day 'Serenade In Shorts" is there any chance you observed anyone who could fill the mold of Mr. Palomalu?
Brian Batko
2:33
There was not a chance, and this I did not.

Do you feel that the steeler offense is too safe most of the time?  Where is the killer instinct?  What will it take for them to run it down the other teams throat and keep going after them?
Brian Batko
2:34
To me, running the ball a lot would be the more "too safe" option of the two things an offense can do on a given play.
Eric Carr
2:35
Brian,  what UDFA intrigues you the most?
Brian Batko
2:36
I'm a big kickers guy, so I think Matthew Wright from UCF is interesting. Accurate, but does he have enough NFL leg? Also the two safeties, Dravon Askew-Henry and PJ Locke. Askew-Henry, from Aliquippa and WVU, had an interception on both days of minicamp we got to see. I wrote about them over the weekend https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2019/05/10/pj-locke-dravo...

Hi Brian, welcome, hope I can get an answer from you and not a snide remarks luke..hmm..well we know. Anyhow why no action from Johnson? Is he hurt?
Brian Batko
2:37
Yeah, he probably had a little precautionary thing. No need to risk anything for that setting with a third-round pick.
Catamount
2:37
Berryman actually went to Western Carolina. So if you watch tape of the Leathernecks, you'll miss him. That said, he was kind of impressive statistically.
Brian Batko
2:38
Leathernecks > Catamounts, at least in terms of nicknames

Dime LB?  Barron, Marcus Allen, other?
Brian Batko
2:39
Probably Barron, an NFL veteran who's played different spots in his career
Sterling A
2:39
Any chance the near-lack of attention to the tight end position leads to Rosie Nix lining up at TE?
Brian Batko
2:39
That would surprise me.
Jeff
2:40
thanks for the chat.  If you could give one piece of advice to Tomlin around changing the culture what would it be?  Its clear his style of coaching led to many of the problems
Brian Batko
2:40
Yeah, I would tell him that if anything newsworthy is happening, feed the info to the fine beat reporters who write for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Any FA names as you see affordable TE available for Steelers? Any word on Colbert staying after this year?
Brian Batko
2:43
Free-agent TEs out there you might've heard of include A.J. Derby, Levine Toilolo, MarQueis Gray and Antonio Gates. Couldn't tell you if they're affordable or not.
Justin
2:43
As a Steelers fan that has long attended these weekly chats, I for one would find myself more at home if you could ramp up your sarcasm and snarky replies like your predecessor.  Jk.  Thanks for insight into our Steelers!
Brian Batko
2:44
Man, I can't win here. I think I've been accused of being too snarky and not snarky enough today. Appreciate ya, Justin.
Define or Denial
2:45
Isn't Bush really a hybrid safety... especially in Tomlin's nickle & dime dream scheme?
Brian Batko
2:45
I think he's more of a pure inside linebacker than Mark Barron. But the beauty of him, and the reason you used such a high pick on him, is that he should be versatile enough to do all sorts of things and never leave the field.
Catamount
2:46
We hear about Smith, Johnson, Layne and obviously Bush, but did any of the other draft picks stand out a bit ... in  a positive way?
Brian Batko
2:47
Ulysees Gilbert certainly looks athletic in shorts. Isaiah Buggs seemed quick for his size in pass-rush drills. Just very difficult to get much of a gauge on guys in that setting. Especially someone like Benny Snell, whose whole thing is running hard, being physical and thriving on contact.
Ralph LA
2:47
Before it broke into the open, was Antonio Brown’s behavior widely known among reporters that covered the team.
Brian Batko
2:48
Ah, I don't think so. But I'm not the best person to ask.

2:48
You don’t buy into the narrative that Steelers are better w/out LB and AB, right?  They might be better on the life scale but not the playing field scale, agree?
Brian Batko
2:48
I can't imagine their receiving corps being better, no. But uh, backfield did just fine without Le'Veon a year ago. And defense has nothing to do with them.

Hey Brian! I feel like I’m the only one who thinks this team actually has potential to make a serious run for the SB. For a few reasons, the entire organization has learned from the errors of its ways (from Rooney to the ball boy), the cancers have left the locker room, and there is real talent, with a team concept approach ....thoughts?
Brian Batko
2:50
That stuff is all well and good, and I don't doubt that they have Super Bowl potential as long as they have an elite quarterback like they do, but you still need a lot to go right. There were 31 other teams also trying to get better this offseason, and believing that they did it. I see a team that could be anywhere from 1st to 3rd in its own division, depending on how the chips fall.
Glenn from Md
2:50
I am somewhat surprised that the Steelers are not looking at bringing in a veteran running back to compete for the back up role.  Neither Samuels or Snell have a track record for running or blocking on the NFL and some veteran competition would be the prudent thing to do...what are your thoughts??  I would love to see a guy like Alfred Blue signed!!
Brian Batko
2:51
Don't think they need to go that route, Glenn. There's already only enough carries to go around for three promising young guys back there.
Dan Patterson
2:51
Brian,  I feel James Washington will emerge as a target favorite for Big Ben!  He was lights out in preseason and lost some confidence.   Your thoughts?
Brian Batko
2:52
Think I said last chat or the week before that Washington is my pick to be the "breakout" player on this offense. I still believe.
JerseySteel
2:52
Hi Brian - any insight into why the Steelers seeming suddenly gave up on Keion Adams?
Brian Batko
2:53
Not particularly, other than injuries often derail or delay NFL journeys, and in this case he probably fell behind guys like Ola Adeniyi and now a higher draft pick in Sutton Smith. It is what it is.
Jim
2:54
Can't help but think if we hadn't wasted a pick on Rudolph last year and gone with a ILB or CB our D would be looking really good right now. Think Colbert is thinking the same?
Brian Batko
2:55
Nah, I think Rudolph was great value where they got him last draft, and the cornerback position got a much needed upgrade this offseason between signing Steve Nelson and drafting Justin Layne.
