Do we see Andrew Benintendi traded within the next 24 hours?
Steve Adams
2:29
I don't know if it's within 24 hours, but it seems increasingly likely that the Red Sox will move him, yeah. At this point I feel like a trade is likelier than not.

Will the Jays pony up and sign anyone or will they finish second on every big name? Who do you see them signing?
Steve Adams
2:30
There are too many free agents with big asking prices and not enough teams willing to spend for the Jays to miss on all of them.
I still think one of Springer, Bauer, LeMahieu or Realmuto will land there.

Red Sox Discussing Andrew Benintendi In Trade Talks
tampa ???? kevin kiermaier ??????
Steve Adams
2:31
Nah, they'd want younger, controllable pieces in return.
TWINSGuy31
2:31
Since the Twins WAR is close enough to the White Sox, a depleted Indians offense/pitching and the rest of the AL Central not poised to contend. Will the Twins just wait out any trade until the mid-season trade deadline in order to reduce the amount prospects traded away?
Steve Adams
2:32
I understand that Twins fans are frustrated by the slow offseason, but I think by the time Opening Day rolls around they'll have signed a DH -- Cruz, Brantley or Ozuna -- added to the rotation and picked up at least two more relievers.
2:33
Lots of fanbases are feeling similar frustrations right now, and it's understandable. But it's also worth remembering that the majority of teams in the league haven't done jack yet, and the free-agent market is still abnormally deep relative to the calendar.
2:34
Rangers added Drew Butera on a minor league deal.
Shortstops 2021
2:34
What do you see the shortstop free agent class shaping up like? What kind of contracts to Seager, Story, and others land?
Steve Adams
2:35
I don't think it's worth speculating on until we see how the 2021 season plays out -- both in terms of those players' performances and in terms of fan attendance/team revenues. If you're asking right now, I'd rank their earning power:

Lindor, Seager, Baez, Correa, Story

Seager really helped his stock with a monster rebound in '20. But all of that can change with injuries, poor performance, etc.

Do Cleveland entertain offers for Plesac given like Clevinger he's still on questionable standing since the Covid breach. May as well cash him in for more prospects?
Steve Adams
2:36
Clevinger was moved more because of the money he stood to earn through arbitration than because of breaching protocols. Plesac isn't arb-eligible yet. I doubt he's moved.

Kluber back to CLE?
Steve Adams
2:37
I think he can get a higher salary on a one-year deal elsewhere. And really, with how Cleveland has acted this winter, if you're a veteran looking to sign with a contender, they're not on your list.

what will be the mystery team that’s going to make a move that will come as a huge surprise?
Steve Adams
2:38
I don't think it'd really be a huge shocker if the Twins made a couple aggressive signings, but of the teams that have been completely quiet so far, they're among the likeliest to do so in my view. (Well, the Blue Jays, too, but they've been linked to everyone all winter and everyone is mostly just waiting on them to spend)

Did the sox pay too much for Hendriks contract?  Thoughts on the overall decline payout?
Steve Adams
2:41
We were predicting 3/42 for Hendriks up until Brad Hand went unclaimed on waivers, and that prompted a regrettably reactionary cut to some of our free-agent predictions. Hendriks' AAV generally falls right in line with where I expected if you consider that it's basically 4/54
Tigers announced that the Pirates claimed OF Troy Stokes Jr. off waivers.

Heard a rumor LA might try and get Ramirez from Cle? They got the prospects to do it right? Thoughts?
Steve Adams
2:44
At this point, if you're Cleveland, you might as well listen on Ramirez. I imagine it'd take a pretty overwhelming prospect haul -- talking Lux/Gonsolin and then some -- but it's looking like a transitional year in Cleveland, and Ramirez's remaining $33MM over the next three years probably looks "expensive" to their owners.

White Sox give Hendriks 3 years 54 million. What happened to a little bit of collusion of owners, of not spending too much on the players this year? does the free agent market, specifically relievers, have to adjust to that signing, or is it  treated  as just as an exception?
Steve Adams
2:45
Hendriks was the best arm on the market and was compensated as such. Overall teams have spent something like a billion dollars less on free agents than they had at this point last winter. It is an odd dynamic that the few notable names to have signed thus far have all crushed general expectations, but I'd imagine we're not far off from looking at FA contracts and starting to think "Wait... that's it?"

2:46
What will it take to get the market moving, Bauer signing or time?
Steve Adams
2:46
Spring Training drawing closer will move the market more than a Bauer deal would. Bauer could sign with the Angels/Dodgers/Jays/whoever in 30 minutes, and I don't think it would cause some avalanche of subsequent transactions.

Is the lindor trade now the bar for story or correa?
Steve Adams
2:47
Lindor was traded with a high-end SP who has multiple years of control remaining and is also a better player than either Story or Correa. It wouldn't be an apples-to-apples comparison in either case.
Dbacks Fan
2:48
Will the Dbacks do anything this off season?
Steve Adams
2:49
Add some bullpen help probably, but it has to be pretty demoralizing for each of Arizona, Colorado and San Francisco to see how much the Padres have improved. I didn't like the D-backs making aggressive short-term additions in the first place -- not after they moved Starling Marte because they didn't want to pay his option price -- but harder to see anything more than potential value adds at this point.

Who are most likely suitors at this point?
Steve Adams
2:51
Dodgers, Angels, Blue Jays, Mets, White Sox, Twins all seem somewhat viable to me -- less so on the latter two than the front four. I'm probably forgetting someone.

2:52
For the Rockies to keep Story do they need to offer more than Arenado money?
Steve Adams
2:53
No, I don't think Story has that type of earning power. But I also don't think they'll extend him. They should be exploring the market for him now (and should have been a year ago too)

Are trades as haphazard and simple as Senior Pitt made them look in the movie?
Steve Adams
2:55
Ha, no. Although I do remember Jerry Dipoto once saying in an ESPN interview that a trade he made with the Pirates -- Ernesto Frieri to Pittsburgh, Jason Grilli to Anaheim, I believe -- took about seven minutes to come together. I laughed at that. Dipoto's candor in interviews is always fun.

Brantley to the White Sox seem practical?
Steve Adams
2:56
Somewhat, yes. But Brantley is probably best-suited to go somewhere that has DH time available, and the ChiSox want to get Andrew Vaughn a look there sooner or later. I still think a team in win-now mode like they are should be pedal-to-the-metal and making exactly this type of move, but as I mentioned earlier, they're already sitting at record payroll levels. Do they want Brantley at something like 14-16MM per year over the next two seasons?
