Now that Hendriks has signed, more likely for the Dodgers Hand, Yates or none of the above?  If the latter, would you feel comfortable with Kenley as closer?
Steve Adams
2:58
I'd say the Yates fit is better just because they could probably outbid the field on a one-year deal without having to take on a multi-year risk. That's generally the sort of move the Dodgers prefer, and Yates would come with a lower luxury hit than Hand -- with comparable/arguably greater upside.
2:59
I'd say between Kenley, Treinen, Yates and Graterol, you'd have to feel good about one of them handling the bulk of the save opps

Am I crazy for thinking this but I would trade Pete Alonso to CIN for Luis Castillo and Votto. Make starting pitcher much stronger with a cost control SP and have CIN throw a few mill for taking on the contract of Votto.
Steve Adams
3:00
Votto has a full no-trade clause and has said numerous times that he has no desire to ever leave Cincinnati.

Should the Sox have signed two of Colome, Hand, Yates for the same AAV as Hendriks?
Steve Adams
3:01
Hendriks is the best of the trio by a long shot, in my view, but I generally see your point about it being wiser to diversify risk my spreading out the necessary resources over multiple players.

Given the White Sox' goals, though, I'd take aim at the highest possible return -- and that is absolutely Hendriks.

Any chance the Giants are in on Bauer
Steve Adams
3:02
They have the financial wherewithal, but Bauer just this week went out of his way to talk about how important it is for him to sign with an immediate postseason contender, and I'm not sure you can look at the Giants, particularly in that division, and see that.

3:03
Odorizzi or Kluber to the Cardinals?
Steve Adams
3:04
Kluber would be likelier just because he's very likely signing a one-year deal, but I don't expect St. Louis to spend much at all outside of possible reunions with Molina and Wainwright. If they miss on Waino, again, sure they might take a flier on a veteran guy. But I think Kluber will command more than most one-year gambles late in the winter.

If Bauer wanted to have the highest AAV in history, do you think he'd get a team to give him 37 million a year over three years.
Steve Adams
3:05
I think interested teams would pay $37MM annually to limit the term on Bauer to three years, yes.

3:05
What kind of return can 1 year of Bryant coming off of a down year really get? I’d be careful to give up too much.
Steve Adams
3:06
He won't command much of a return, which is part of the problem of trading him. The optics of moving a former top pick, top prospect, rookie of the year and MVP in exchange for primarily salary relief are poor. But then again, the Cubs didn't care about the awful optics in that Darvish dump.

If the Yankees swing and miss on DJ, do you see them making a move for Story? Could move Gleybar over to 2nd
Steve Adams
3:08
That makes plenty of sense, sure, but the Rockies would have to be willing to move Story, which isn't a given because of owner Dick Monfort's stubborn belief that the current group should be contenders.
3:10
Sorry -- the Jotcast software is having some issues. Seeing if there's anything I can do on my end here.
3:11
Seems like it's back?
3:12
Having some technical issues on my end here. I'll have to inquire with their developers, as this also happened a couple weeks back. Unfortunately, it's a third-party software so there's nothing I can really do at the moment, I don't think. I'll try to take a few more questions, but if we cut out abruptly here, that'll be the reason. Apologies.

Just last offseason, the Reds were everyone's favorite team for spending up and "trying to compete" and now they've indicated they're going completely the opposite direction... was it a mirage or just a total about-face? Castellini is certainly not poor....
Steve Adams
3:15
Every owner is going to react to the revenue losses differently. I'm sure Castellini didn't love that the time he opted for a clear franchise-record payroll happened to coincide with a zero-attendance season.

I'm remaining somewhat hopeful that the Reds are cutting payroll in the 'pen because they expect right-handed relievers to be flooding the market shortly prior to Spring Training, making it sensible to spend that money on a shortstop instead. We'll see if that plays out, though. It could very well just be that they're cutting payroll after revenue losses, which would be an absolute kick in the gut to fans who sat through a rebuild that didn't actually produce much benefit on the farm. (The Reds' success wasn't due to the rebuild but more due to buying low on Sonny, stealing Castillo from Miami and getting Bauer at a reasonable rate because Cleveland keeps cutting payroll itself)
Rangers 13
3:16
Is Odorizzi a reasonable target for TX at 3/30 or would some combo of Paxson, Williams, Walker, Woods, or Archer make better sense for the $$$ and years?
Steve Adams
3:16
I think Odo can do better, and I don't think the Rangers are going to spend at that level on another starter. A rebound guy like Williams, Wood or Archer wouldn't shock me.

3:17
Do you think the Brewers stand a chance in 2021?
Steve Adams
3:17
Sure. No one else in the Central seems to be trying to win. They'll add several one-year guys over the next month, and the roster will look better come Opening Day than it does now.
Jon
3:17
Cleveland seems like a quality pitching factory; how could a team poach from that brain trust ?
Steve Adams
3:19
Teams have already been trying. That's why Ross Atkins (former CLE director of player personnel) is the Blue Jays' GM and Derek Falvey (former CLE AGM) is the Twins' president of baseball operations. Cleveland, Tampa -- any execs from lower-payroll clubs who can consistently produce talent and winning records will always be in demand in other front offices.

What would the Tigers need to offer to get Kieboom?
Steve Adams
3:20
One of their own high-end young pitching prospects? Tarik Skubal? I don't think they're getting Kieboom for any of the fungible pieces on the MLB roster.
Springer
3:21
Is it realistic that the Mets could trade for Bryant and sign me?  A line up of myself, Lindor, Bryant, Conforto, and Alonso could do some damage in the NL
Steve Adams
3:22
I don't consider that especially realistic, no. Could add either Bryant or Springer to round out the offseason in terms of major additions, but even though it's technically possible, adding both seems far-fetched.
White Sox

Are White Sox fans reading to much into all the tweets from Bauer and his agent???
Steve Adams
3:22
Bauer and Luba have been tweeting at every fanbase all winter.

Bauer headache
3:23
I just don't think Bauer is worth all this attention and holding up the market. Am I wrong?
Steve Adams
3:25
I don't think Bauer is holding up the market. As for whether he's worth the attention -- you can draw your own conclusions about how he conducts himself and his desire to build himself and Momentum as a brand.

But as an actual pitcher, he's a lot better than most fans give him credit for. As I said earlier, I don't care what Bauer did when he was 24-26 and figuring out how to pitch in the Majors. He has clear ace-caliber stuff, two ace-caliber seasons in the past three years and a strong overall track record over the past half-decade. Maybe he's not a Cy Young contender every year, but he's a pretty clear No. 1/2 starter to me, and his openness to a short-term, high-AAV contract makes him particularly interesting.

3:26
What type of relievers do you see the Marlins adding this offseason? Could they be in on Hand, or likely the tier below?
Steve Adams
3:28
I think Hand will be out of their price range. I'd look for a couple of lower-cost guys once the deluge of right-handed relievers available finally causes the dam to break ($2-4MM apiece maybe).
