Do the Rays go into the season without a veteran catcher -maybe take a flyer on  Gary  Sanchez ? Also need a lefthanded starter
Steve Adams
1:28
I doubt they care much about the handedness of their rotation, but yes they need to add a catcher of some kind. Sanchez works. Could take a chance on Joey Bart. Try to get Ivan Herrera out of STL. Eat a little bit of Christian Vazquez's contract. I just don't see how they can go Rene Pinto and Alex Jackson/Rob Brantly then call it a day.

I know this will probably never happen, But if you offer a player a QO, and he resigns with the same team on a 1 or 2 year deal, Can you offer him another QO again? Or is it a one time thing no matter who he signs with? Was thinking of Bellinger in particular, Because the Cubs don't want to go big with the years but neither does anyone else. Thanks

Players can receive exactly one qualifying offer in their careers, that's it.
Once they receive one, they're ineligible thereafter.

Does Luke Voit have a shot at a major league contract or will he have to settle for a spring training invite?
Steve Adams
1:29
Spring training invite most likely. He took a year and 2.5MM with the Brewers last year, and it's not like he did much to improve his stock

Will Stroman be over or under a 3.50 ERA?
Steve Adams
1:30
If he's healthy I expect he'll be right in that range. Guess I'd take the over by a bit, but not much. Stroman is consistently good when he's healthy

Do you see the Astros picking up somebody to replace graveman? Or internally
Steve Adams
1:31
Dana Brown suggested today they'll look outside the org. We'll have something on those comments up before long. I think a trade is likelier since it really does seem like they're wary of spending much more and taking payroll much further.

What are your thoughts on Busch to the Cubs. Is he a viable 1b option this season?  Why is he 26 and still not in the majors??
Steve Adams
1:34
He's a poor defender who's been behind infield options like Freddie Freeman, Justin Turner, and others for several years in L.A. I think he's a viable first base option, sure. I don't know that he's a star or anything, but it's high time someone gave him a look and I hope the Cubs give him a real shot at 1B. I just want to see someone give him some job security and say "Go hit, kid"

Is Buxton actually going to set foot on outfield grass this year?
Steve Adams
1:35
The plan is for him to be able to do so, but who knows what injury will pop up next? Insane level of talent, and similarly mind-bending lack of durability there. Which is a shame -- he's so fun to watch when he's right.

is there an underlying reason why the Mets haven’t previously locked up Alonso in multi year deal? Hometown hero, seemingly good guy, great power numbers, and a better than average glove. Is there an underlying club house issue with him? Something is not being shared….
Steve Adams
1:36
The player has to want to sign as well. Alonso may just prefer to go year-to-year. That line of thinking would mesh with him hiring Boras Corp a couple years ago
Jays

I believe the Jays will Sign Soler and Snell. Then Trade from their depth of SP for another in field bat. Kicuchi for Polanco or Manoah,Espinal and Horowitz for Arreaz. Are either of these possible in your opinion?
Steve Adams
1:36
Soler and/or Snell seem plausible, sure. Neither the Twins nor the Marlins (especially not Miami) would take those offers, I don't think.

Can we count on Stripling in the rotation or should we try to get somebody else even after we get Snell if we do?
Steve Adams
1:37
They should still be aiming to add multiple arms. They just have nothing stable behind Webb.

Is Ross Atkins really going to go with Isiah Kiner-Falefa as his primary starting 3B? He can't honestly think that's a good enough plan for a contending team, can he?
Steve Adams
1:37
I'd be borderline shocked if IKF is the opening-day 3B there

Most improved roster this off season? I'd have to give some kuddos to the Royals for adding SP. They went from the bottom to middle with the quality and depth.
Steve Adams
1:40
Royals are indeed quite improved, but they're still nowhere close to a playoff team for me. They won 56 games last year. Lugo, Wacha, Smith, Stratton, Renfroe help raise the floor, but that group didn't add 20-25 wins or anything, even when you factor in a full year of Ragans. They still need a ton of internal development from their in-house guys.

Uncertainty surrounding their TV deal and future revenue streams -- same as a lot of the teams around the league

1 year $20M for Hader to go win a ring and be back in FA next yr - would he say Yes?
Steve Adams
1:44
He's going to be looking at multi-year offers with a $20MM+ AAV, so no, I don't think so. If it's March 10 and he's still unsigned, maybe the short-term route starts looking more plausible, but I don't think it'll get to that point.
FWIW, I think Cease is traded before Opening Day

Ian Happ signed a 3 year $61m extension at the start of 2023 season. How would have he fared if he remained a free agent. In my opinion, it seems possible the Cubs overpaid given how low OF contracts are coming this offseason
Steve Adams
1:47
I think he sold himself short by $20-40MM. He'd have easily been one of the top bats on the market. He's a 29-year-old switch hitter who's been well above average at the plate every year since 2019, with the exception of a 2021 season where he was only a bit better than average.

But hey, $20MM a year to play where you want to be, where you call home, with teammates, coaches, fans, etc. that you like -- hard to fault him. I'm sure his agents spelled out to him how he could earn more on the open market, but not all guys want that. Good on him for signing what works for him, but I don't think it's an overpay at all. Happ would've been more desirable than the outfielders who've signed so far
