Chat With MLBTR's Steve Adams: 1/23/18

Steve Adams
3:50
I don't think they're really expecting him to pitch in 2018, and if he does, September is more realistic. Doubt he'd start a playoff game if they got there.
The Melk Man
3:51
Why is my market so slow? Any chance the Sox want me back?
Steve Adams
3:52
Every outfielder's market is slow. I could see him landing back on the South Side on a one-year deal or something I suppose. Could see him in Baltimore too.
Curious
3:52
Are 6+ year deals and $200 mil contracts becoming a thing of the past?
Steve Adams
3:53
Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are free agents a year from now. Nope.
TM
3:53
Would you do a package that featured Alford and Pillar + for yelich?
Steve Adams
3:53
Without hesitation. The Marlins, though, would not.
At least not if those were the two headliners.
Kamil Stoch
3:53
Do you see Logan Morrison going back to TB?
Steve Adams
3:54
No -- they'll be looking less expensive at first base. Maybe Duda.

LoMo probably doesn't get the three years we pegged him at, but he should still be able to land a nice two-year deal.
The Braves black hole
3:55
Any chance moose, the Todd father, or Nunez end up on a one year deal to Atlanta?
Steve Adams
3:56
I just don't see the Braves giving a pick for one year of Moose. If Frazier's market drops to one year he probably just goes back to the Yankees. Nunez, perhaps, but he'd probably take a couple of years. Not a bad thing to have him cover 3B and then bounce him and Camargo all over the diamond for the next couple of years, though.
3:57
(Though I think Camargo is in line for some pretty noted regression)
Addi to Javy to Rizz
3:57
Is Yu the domino that starts the rest of the free agent pitcher signings?
Steve Adams
3:57
I don't know that there's one key "domino," so to speak. At this point, if there's any real catalyst, it's just the calendar.
There's so much talk about how the players will panic and start taking offers, but teams are going to panic a bit too.
3:58
Pitchers and catchers report in like 3 weeks and the Orioles have 40% of a rotation. Eventually, parties on both sides will start to blink.
Hunter
3:59
Do you think the Astros will add a leftie bat (maybe 1B or OF) soon? They could use one
Steve Adams
3:59
Likelier that they add a lefty reliever.
Roy
3:59
Did Padres sell low on Solarte?
Steve Adams
3:59
I thought they'd get more for him
LA
3:59
You a hockey guy? If so, I'm guessing you're a Wild fan eh?
Steve Adams
3:59
A casual one, but I do follow the Wild, yes.
Ryan Braun
4:00
What are the odds that I was apart of that big trade that was rumored over the weekend?
Steve Adams
4:01
I don't think Braun is going anywhere, and not sure there as a "big" trade rumored so much as a trade in general. Could've been something like Keon Broxton or Brett Phillips -- notable, but smaller scale than moving Braun's contract.
Tony T.
4:02
Bobby Evans alluded to AJax as a utility OF - not starting CF. Do you think the Giants have another move to make in CF?
Steve Adams
4:02
There's still room for them to add another OF, yeah. Would have to be someone league min. or thereabouts (e.g. Broxton) to keep under the lux tax, if that's still their goal.
Yo!
4:02
What do the Giants do with Pandoval?
Steve Adams
4:03
Release him?
Alex H
4:03
are the yankees no longer in on Darvish?
Steve Adams
4:03
Seems like the only ever were if they could dump Ellsbury, and that never seemed all that likely.
Evan
4:03
What is the nationals next move
Steve Adams
4:03
Get a catcher and a fifth starter, in no particular order.
Michael
4:04
Who gets hurt most by the Carlos Santana signing? I would think Altherr but he deserves to play over Odubel
Steve Adams
4:05
Williams or Altherr. Neither is a CF. Odubel is. Williams and Altherr may see some time there, but I think it's Odubel for the lion's share and those two losing some ABs to Hoskins primarily.
Spencer
4:06
Are the Pirates finished making moves?
Steve Adams
4:07
Doubt it. If nothing else, they freed up some cash to go bargain shopping with the trades they made. Plus, could still trade Harrison.
Jim Mc
4:08
What's the pick compensation for 1 year at under 50 mil?
Steve Adams
4:08
It's dependent on luxury tax, revenue sharing, etc.:
