I have thought the Twins should offer 5/135 with opt outs after every year for Darvish. Thoughts?
Steve Adams
4:27
A five-year deal worth $30MM+ annually with an opt-out after each season is one of the most nightmarish scenarios any team could ever concoct.
I mean, I'm sure Joel Wolfe (Darvish's agent) loves that idea. The Twins? Not so much.
4:28
Wait. ...is that you, Joel? Ha.

The giants signed Jackson. The jays traded for Grichuk. Is anyone still interested in me?
Steve Adams
4:29
I didn't ever perceive the Giants as much of a fit for him with all the talk about the luxury tax. Blue Jays do seem unlikely now. Brewers, Rangers, probably some #mysteryteams still in

5/$135 is not $30M a year. Still doubt the Twins do buy out options after each year, while giving $27M a year.
Steve Adams

Ha. Oops. I read it as 5/155. Point still remains the same.
No team would ever do that. There've only been two contracts I can think of at all that have multiple opt outs
4:31
Andrus and Heyward (two each)

Do we even need to sign a 3rd baseman?
Steve Adams
4:32
I'd just sign a second baseman and let Andujar fight for the starting gig in Spring Training. If he looks overmatched, go with Torreyes there for a month

For luxury tax purposes, how are signing bonuses handled?  Are they prorated for the length of the contract or attached to the salary of the first year?
Steve Adams
4:34
The luxury tax is calculated based on the average annual value of a contract, signing bonus included.

Why doesn't MLBTR do a podcast? I like Podcasts.

We did a podcast for more than a year, but it proved to be enormously time consuming and we've discontinued it for now. Old episodes are all on iTunes if you want to listen to Jeff and me talk about some random outdated topics and hear some interviews with players, agents, etc:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/mlb-trade-rumors-podcast/id9166876...

Can't remember every player we had on... Andrew Miller, Corey Kluber, Joe Panik. It was fun, but it was a lot of effort, especially for Jeff as the primary host.

Ok, I have to wrap up for the week. Thank you everyone for chatting. Jason's up tomorrow night at 6:30pm CT, and then Jeff on Thursday at 2pm CT. I'm on Twitter for more questions if you're so inclined: @Adams_Steve.

Thanks! Enjoy your week!
