Kjerstad from the O's  to the Pirates for Jared Jones.  Who says no?
Steve Adams
1:29
I'm not giving up Jones for Kjerstad

Reds trade Jeimer Candalerio and cash to Mariners for Hanover? At least Candy can play 3rd
Steve Adams
1:31
I've kicked something like this around, wondering if the Reds would be willing to take Garver back as well and include Pagan to help even out the money (as Candy is signed through 2026). The salary and team needs line up reasonably well, and to your point, you'd rather have the sunk $15MMish contract at a position where you at least have an on-paper need. Obviously pure speculation, but the fit/money/needs at least sort of line up

Since it’s been proven that T mobile park is by far the toughest park to hit in, why don’t the Mariners just trade Woo or Miller for a young stud 3B like Mayo and replace the rotation vacancy with a John Means or Kyle Gibson type?  It seems too hard to get hitters to want to sign with Seattle and I would think pitchers would be clamoring to play there on a 1 year prove it type of contract.
Steve Adams
1:34
This assumes the O's would trade Mayo for one of Woo or Miller, which I'm not entirely sure of. Broadly, I agree that they should be more willing to move one of the younger arms for a controllable top-end infield prospect/controllable young big leaguer at a position of need. It seems they were just closed off to the notion entirely.

I'd be attached to those guys, too, but when you're working with such a tight budget, it's hard to upgrade the lineup in a meaningful capacity.

Last chat someone asked the chances Pressly gets traded during the chat and then it happened so here it goes... What are the chances Alonso or Bregman get signed during this chat?
Steve Adams
1:35
Let's all collectively will it into existence!
Also, if this works, next week can we collectively will the powerball or mega millions numbers into existence in my consciousness? Thanks
Breggy
1:36
Where’s the best fit for Bregman? Doesn’t seem like the Astros given the Paredes acquisition
Steve Adams
1:36
Easiest fit with a clear need is the Tigers or Jays for me. But understandable if he wants to explore the renewed Houston possibility to the fullest.
Guards Jim
1:37
Grichuk, could Guards get him, how much do you think he would cost
Steve Adams
1:37
$6-7MM? Or maybe like two years and $12MM. It's not going to be a huge contract. Guardians should be able to afford it, yeah, even with their minimal payroll standards.

After signing Profar, do you think the Braves are done or do they have the space to add an affordable starter and/or reliver?
Steve Adams
1:39
AA has already said he has room to work on the pitching staff. The Braves make good sense to add a reliever

any update on Pedro avila?
Steve Adams
1:40
We'll get one today or tomorrow. He was designated six days ago, which should mean he's already on waivers. (Waivers take 48 hours and the DFA window is seven days, so they have to be waived by the end of five days if no trade is agreed upon)
Assuming he was placed yesterday, resolution will come tomorrow. I assume he'll be claimed, but sometimes out-of-options guys surprisingly slip through

Are the Pirates serious with Adam Frazier??
Steve Adams
1:41
Frazier was great for them three to four years ago, but yeah, I wouldn't be excited by this either.

1:42
Would Kraig Kimbrel come to the A's if they offered 1 year, $8.5 million with a $10 milllion mutual option?
Steve Adams
1:43
The mutual option means nothing. It's a mechanism for pushing back some of the guaranteed money. There hasn't been a mutual option exercised by both parties in more than 10 years. So that option's presence would just be a reason to pay him "only", say $6.5MM this year and then tack a $2MM buyout onto the option.

For a year and 8.5, yeah I think Kimbrel would take that

Kelenic have any trade value? Him, Smith-Shawver and a middle prospect for Michael King or Cease. Who says no?
Steve Adams
1:46
I find that pretty underwhelming for either pitcher. I thought the Braves were kind of crazy to go to the lengths they did (in terms of dead money absorbed) to acquire Kelenic last winter. AJSS' command issues are fairly ominous.

An optimist who likes Smith-Shawver more than I do might think that seems fine, but it feels like trading a bunch of guys whose stock is tumbling to acquire a peak-value SP rental.

Anything on Twins ownership changing hands and affects going forward
Steve Adams
1:47
Even if they have an agreement in place relatively soon, they'd need to be approved by the rest of the owners. That vote probably wouldn't happen until at least March, with the summer being likelier. I don't think the sale (or potential sale) will impact their free agent or trade dealings this winter.
1:48
Though it'd be funny/amusing if the Twins suddenly had like $40MM to play with and every agent was banging their door down trying to get something done.

1:49
You see the Forbes report showing MLB made over $12B last year? Each team made an average of $378MM prior to factoring things like RSN money and baseball village money. Bad look for teams that cry poverty and don't spend.
Steve Adams
1:50
I haven't read it through yet, but yeah I've seen it making the rounds. In general, there are "bad looks" for teams like this all the time. When Apple TV and Peacock got their MLB deals and the league last renegotiated its postseason TV rights, we were up to every team in MLB getting around $65MM from national television/streaming deals before factoring a single ticket sold or a single RSN dollar. To say nothing of merch, concessions, parking, adjacent real-estate developments, stadium naming rights, other various sponsorships, etc.
1:51
I loved when John Angelos said he'd open up the books to show that the Orioles weren't profitable with a bottom-of-the-barrel payroll ... and was wholly unsurprised when he didn't follow through, haha.

Yandy Diaz for Taylor Rogers and David Villar. Who says no?
Steve Adams
1:52
I don't think the Rays get better there. Villlar seems like a DFA candidate

What do the Royals do to fix their outfield. Do you think they trade for someone like Taylor Ward or Mike Yaztremski. What players do you think they will try to get.
Steve Adams
1:53
Not sure they have the remaining funds to do that, and they remain weirdly committed to MJ Melendez and are stuck paying Renfroe $7.5MM, so my guess is they don't make a big OF addition
Cronenworth
1:53
How much is a 2 WAR 2b/1b worth.  Is $11m per year horrible? Saying he  had $50m in negative value means he is a $1-2m per year player over his next 6 years?
Steve Adams
1:54
The market doesn't pay 2B-only types. Gleyber got 1/15 because he's still young. Most second basemen in and around 30 or older -- Cronenworth is 31 -- are limited to two-year deals in the $16-20MM range.
If Cronenworth were a free agent, I'd have put him at like ... 2/15 this winter?
He has six years and $71MM remaining.

Are the Carlos Estevez to the Reds rumors legit or just agent/media spin?
Steve Adams
1:55
They talked -- I don't think it's a good sign for Estevez's odds of going to Cincinnati that the Reds have since signed Austin Hays
