What’s up with Chris Tillman? Is there an injury issue? This guy gets out of Baltimore finally maybe he can be better.
Steve Adams
4:01
Back injuries and, more troubling, shoulder issues.
Fishfood

will a package of barnhart, trammell and india get JT deal done?
Steve Adams
4:02
I think the Marlins would take that. I don't think the Reds would offer it.
Jeff
4:02
Phillies regretting McCutchen signing seeing Pollocks deal?
Steve Adams
4:05
They obviously liked McCutchen quite a bit to put that offer on the table early in the offseason -- probably more than Pollock. With McCutchen, they have to feel better about the durability, and they know they're off the hook regardless in three years.

It's a bit more than I'd have liked to pay Cutch, but I never considered it an egregious overpay and don't really understand why many people did. Sure, it's true that Cutch isn't as good as he once was. It's also true that he's been about a 5-6 win player over the past two seasons and made tons of hard contact in a terrible hitters' park with the Giants.

Why wouldn't the Cubs explore moving Quintana rather than Zobrist? (Assuming they aren't)
Steve Adams
4:07
I would imagine they value the rotation depth more, plus Zobrist is more expensive and comes with a larger luxury hit.
And older, obviously

Why did the Jay scoop up another Infielder... is there a trade rumbling in the background?
Steve Adams
4:08
Toronto has been looking for a versatile backup infielder who can handle shortstop basically all offseason. I don't think there's anything to it beyond that.

Are Harper to Philly reports coming out of Vegas today accurate?
Steve Adams
4:10
They are not.

4:10
Do you see us losing the division like the Cubs did last year to anyone?
Steve Adams
4:11
They're still the top team there and will be all the more so once they add another starter (which I firmly believe they will do)
Super Poll
4:11
Can we get a poll on Rams or Pats
Steve Adams
4:11
It's a baseball chat, but I'm about to finish up so SURE why not

Whats up with the Giants??  Standing pat is not an option...either add to the core or start the rebuild.  Any thoughts on what they are thinking?
Steve Adams
4:14
I think they'll continue opportunistically adding some lower-end pieces who they feel will be good values in '19. They don't want to blow it up now when, with enough rebounds, they could conceivably be in the mix. They're also not in position to go for it with an aging club and last year's struggles.

It'd be one thing if Bumgarner had dominated and his value was at its peak. I don't think that's the case at all, and I think Giants fans would be aghast at how he's valued by teams throughout the league at this time.
That's not to say he's worthless, but no one's giving up an ace-caliber package for him or anything close to it

4:15
Bigger contract, Sale or Bum?
Steve Adams
4:16
This is what I'm talking about. Chris Sale would earn 3-4x what Madison Bumgarner would earn right now. There's no comparison between the two unless you're hanging onto pre-dirtbike Bumgarner.

Realmuto delays in trade...about getting the best package or Mike Hill doing his latest self-preservation job?
Steve Adams
4:17
Getting the best package. It'd very arguably be worse for Hill to NOT trade him than to trade him for a light package.

How can the players legitimately call a strike because teams won't keep signing players to awful long term deals? There are enough teams hamstrung with horrible contracts to justify this change in thinking by owners. How many teams might offer Harper 10/300 if they didn't have Pujols, Ellsbury, Heyward type deals weighing them down?
Steve Adams
4:18
You're looking at the issue that, what, 2-3 free agents are having right now?
4:19
Look at the middle class of free agents -- you've got guy like Asdrubal signing for $3.5MM after putting up like 8 WAR over the past three seasons. The issue reaches far, far beyond Harper and Manny.
4:20
But, generally speaking, why shouldn't players be pissed off if, when MLB's revenues are at an all-time high (10.5 billion), their salaries are trending in the other direction? You can say "they're not worth it," but in making that argument, you're just saying that the guy who owns the team IS worth that extra money, which is even less sensible.

The simple fact is that player salaries aren't going to dictate ticket prices or concession prices -- which still seems to be what many, many people think would happen.
4:21
Last I checked, my beer was still $12 at an NHL game, despite the league's salary cap.

I got Eloy.   Who you got?
Steve Adams
4:21
Vlad, but Eloy wouldn't surprise me.
