Could one sell the Orioles on taking on Ellsbury if the Yankees included Chance Adams, Miguel Andujar, Clint Frazier, and Justus Sheffield for Machado?
Steve Adams
2:37
That is a ludicrous amount to surrender for one year of Machado and the shedding of Ellsbury's contract.

2:37
Why have we heard so little about J.D. Martinez?
Steve Adams
2:39
Probably because Boras set out asking for a bonkers price on a player with a limited market due to defensive question marks.

I think if they just say they're OK with a 5-6 year deal, there'll be multiple offers. Heyman reported today he's received multiple five-year offers already but didn't specify a second team, so make of that what you will. (I'm somewhat skeptical -- not because of Jon but simply because reports of offers are so often embellished, as we recently saw with Hosmer)

Is this the worst off-season you have seen in a long time so boring
Steve Adams
2:40
It's the slowest one ever, basically.

2:40
Blue Jay's should trade Donaldson. It looks like they're writing off 2018. StL made a substantial offer? Other suitors?
Steve Adams
2:40
Writing off 2018 based on what? If you're basing it on a lack of activity, then 2/3 of the league is writing off 2018.
2:41
The Jays will eventually make multiple additions to that roster and try to compete in '18. If they're out of the mix in July again, then Donaldson probably hits the market.

What's going on with JDM? It really seems doubtful he'll receive a better offer than the Red Sox's, is Boras being too stubborn for his own good?
Steve Adams
2:42
We don't even know the specifics of Boston's offer other than the five-year length. And people say that about free agents every year, only for a better offer to ultimately materialize.

Some free agents are going to be left out in the cold this offseason most likely, but JDM will probably still fetch a solid $120MM+.

Can the Royal's rebuild be successful if they give Hosmer the biggest contract in team history?  Makes so much more sense to let them all walk and get draft picks.
Steve Adams
2:43
Yeah I really don't get that "rebuild with Hosmer!" mentality, but man do they love them some Hoz in KC. I'd let them all walk, take the picks and keep pushing shorter-term assets while listening on Duffy. But, I'm not a GM -- and that's probably a good thing for Royals fans; I think Dayton Moore is slightly more qualified than me. Just a tad.

2:43
Are there any teams that you think should start rebuild based on the strength of their division?
Steve Adams
2:44
I'd have said that about the Royals at the onset of the offseason. Orioles, too. I wouldn't have blamed the Rangers for a rebuild but maybe they're making one more push with Beltran in tow. That rotation outlook is pretty dismal, though.
2:45
The Giants should've been in there too, but again -- obviously not the route they're going.
2:46
Speaking of them
SF Giants
2:46
We are literally linked to every outfielder out there... what is the most likely scenario that will actually happen?
Steve Adams
2:46
I think they have to get someone who can play CF at least competently while somewhat bolstering the offense. And they're trying not to spend too heavily. There aren't many that are going to fit that bill, so come on down Carlos Gomez, I suppose.

2:48
Who will close for the Cardinals?
Steve Adams
2:48
Probably someone who's not in the org yet. Colome, Reed, Holland -- one of those three seems perfectly plausible to me. Hand, I guess, as well -- though talk on him has been pretty quiet for whatever reason.

Why aren't the A's more heavily pursuing a catching upgrade? Maxwell wasn't all that great BEFORE his legal troubles. Lucroy on a two-year deal makes sense, as do potential trades for Yasmani Grandal or Yan Gomes.
Steve Adams
2:50
I wouldn't trade much for Grandal since he's just a year from free agency, but generally I agree. I thought they made tons of sense for Welly Castillo, and they're a good fit for Lucroy, Avila (though he wants to sign with a contender), etc. I didn't get the staunch commitment to Maxwell even before the gun charges.
Also, to clarify re: Grandal
I meant that I wouldn't trade much for him if I were the A's. If I'm the Nats, I'm pushing hard for him even as a one-year rental.
2:53
Sorry about that -- internet cut out for a minute there
Weird.

Where will Carlos Gonzalez land?
Steve Adams
2:53
Orioles on a cheap one-year deal? But probably not until after they make some rotation additions.

Odubel Herrera and Danny Duffy as main pieces of a Phillies-Royals trade? KC needs to replace Lorenzo Cain, an the Phils could use a solid #2/3 lefty.
Steve Adams
2:54
The Phillies are looking for pre-arb, controllable assets if they trade Duffy. Herrera is good, but they'd just be swapping out one reasonably priced asset for another on a team that can't best make use of his contributions.

Is Darvish avoiding the Twins, hoping someone else comes along?
Steve Adams
2:57
Just because they haven't had an in-person meeting? The Twins are putting it out pretty heavily that that's more or less just because he already knows Thad Levine so well that they don't feel its necessary. The veracity of that notion, I can't speak to, as I don't know what's going through Darvish's mind. It'd seem to me that there's plenty to glean from a sitdown with Derek Falvey also present, maybe Jim Pohlad, and lots to learn about a new org and new city.

As for avoiding the Twins -- I don't know why any pitcher would really want to avoid a team with a pretty stacked young core of position players, a great defensive outfield (including maybe the best defensive OF in baseball) and a park that has been fairly pitcher-friendly over the years.

If the Twins make a strong offer, he'll consider it.

Not much out about Moose?   Why not?
Steve Adams
2:58
Teams love OBP and Moose doesn't bring it. Major knee surgery and shakier defensive ratings in recent years. Boras probably asking for $100MM+.

Who is the next Mike Trout? acuna, Robles, trout Jr? Etc
Steve Adams
2:59
"Who is the next player that will have a better first 7 seasons of a career of his career than any player ever?"

He's probably not born yet.

Are the Angels done?

Have to think they'll add some pitching help
