I don't view them as all that related, though as I've said in the past in these, adding Brantley might make it a bit easier to stomach trading Kyle Tucker, whom the Marlins have repeatedly asked for in JTR talks.

Cleveland Indians opening day catcher is.....?
Steve Adams
3:45
Roberto Perez?
Not the answer you were hoping for, haha, soryr
3:46
Guess it could be Plawecki, but I don't think they're going to add a ton of help there. Maybe they'll scoop up a veteran who's still sitting there in March for a million or two, I guess, but I don't think they're going to spend all that heavily moving forward.

What do you think about brewers Santana and Broxton trades? I feel pretty weak. Also what do you think they will focus on, second base or starting pitcher?
Steve Adams
3:49
Yeah, it's easy to say they could've gotten more last offseason, which is probably true, but I don't think anyone was bowling them over with offers last winter, or they'd have made the deals. The depth had value in 2018, even it didn't ultimately prove to be crucial since their OF generally had decent health.

Broxton can't get on base, and Santana is a bat-first corner OF -- maybe the most devalued skill set in all of baseball over the past five years. I think Brewers fans generally thought the value of each was higher than was the case in actuality.
3:50
Last offseason, that is. Basically -- the Brewers were great in 2018 and will probably be really good in 2019, and I don't think they shot themselves in the foot all that much long term by hanging onto their depth
Oh and re: second part of the question -- 2B seems likelier to me

Can the Giants move Belt or Crawford ? maybe both and what's the market for them?
Steve Adams
3:52
Crawford has a full no-trade clause. Belt can block deals to 10 teams, has had more concussion issues than almost anyone in baseball, plays a position that is teeming with alternatives and is still owed $48MM. I think Belt is among the more underrated hitters in the league, but that concussion history is genuinely concerning when talking about his long-term outlook
3:53
TL;DR -- I don't think they can, no.

Should I sign marwin gonzalez and can he be a starting shortstop?
Steve Adams
3:53
No way the Pirates meet Marwin's asking price.

Any chance jeff McNeil play outfield this year?
Steve Adams
3:54
I think he's going to play all over the diamond
Jackie Bradley
3:54
Should I pack my bags or am I still calling Fenway home?
Steve Adams
3:54
I think he stays

Does Grandal end up in a similar situation to Moose last year by settling for a 1 year deal? Or are there enough suitors to still get a solid 3-4 year deal?
Steve Adams
3:57
I was pretty stunned to see the report that he rejected 4/60. That's around the point I pegged his value heading into the offseason, knowing full well our prediction at MLBTR would be on the high end. I'm not sure who's going to give him that type of coin at this point. Maybe he just doesn't want to play in a massive market like that again. Maybe there were huge deferrals. I'm really not sure, but I can easily see, two months from now, that decision looking ugly.
3:58
All that said, I do think he's among the best catchers in the game, so perhaps a surprise team like the Rox, Twins or Brewers will throw more cash at him than anyone would've otherwise expected. Seems unlikely, but there are still teams with needs behind the plate.

Why on earth would I want Dozier with the mid-IF talent I have on the farm?
Steve Adams
4:00
From 2014-17, Dozier was one of the best second basemen in the game. If he can be had on a one-year deal, with Rodgers still needing some time in the minors, why not? Garrett Hampson can't be reasonably expected to replicate Dozier's 2014-17 output, and perhaps they just don't think McMahon is as good as prospect lists and such make him out to be. They've certainly signed enough people to play ahead of him for that to be the case, and they know their own in-house talent better than anyone else.

Gio Gonzalez to San Diego? Who will SD add to the rotation?
Steve Adams
4:01
Padres are looking at younger arms who'd still be in their peak, or close to it, in 2020-21. That's not Gio, who's already 33
If he comes cheap enough, maybe they'll see it as a value add, but I don't know that they'd love the notion of blocking a younger, possible long-term asset with a 33-year-old who isn't going to have much trade value even if he's performing well, won't be a QO candidate, etc.

Where do you see me ending up?
Steve Adams
4:02
Royals on a cheap one-year deal?
JNP
4:03
What are your thoughts on Colon to Angels on a 2 year deal that pays around 3 Million per year
Steve Adams
4:03
No one in their right mind is giving Colon one year at $3MM -- let alone two. He'll sign a minor league deal if he plays anywhere
Ripped Pale Hose
4:03
Are the White Sox done with moves if they don't sign either Machado or Harper?
Steve Adams
4:05
I don't think so. They've built up a whole lot of expectations, and it'd be tough to say "Well, we tried but came up short. Enjoy Kelvin Herrera, Jon Jay, Ivan Nova and Alex Colome, though!" They'd make sense for a number of other free agents, including Pollock, Keuchel, maybe Grandal.

4:05
Can I trade Jedd or Jose for my utility man Derrick detrich
Steve Adams
4:05
Dietrich is a free agent. If you want him, sign him for $3-4MM.

Why isn’t Minneapolis a desirable place to play?  Those of us that live here know that Minneapolis is the greatest city on earth.
Steve Adams
4:08
Cold. Smaller market. Haven't historically been a high-payroll, perennial contender.

I'm typing from St. Paul right now, was born and raised in the Twin Cities and recently moved back after spending four years living in New York. I love the Twin Cities, but that doesn't mean it's a desirable landing spot for top-flight free agents.

Do you think the Pirates will actually trade Cervelli ?
Steve Adams
4:10
He'd be a great one-year stopgap for someone like the Dodgers or Astros if they don't want to break the bank (prospect-wise) for JTR. Cervelli was excellent last season and is a massive OBP threat every year. Good defender, reasonable salary.

As with Belt, though, the concussion issues have to give some interested teams pause.

4:10
Do you see the Twins as seriously considering signing Cody Allen?
Steve Adams
4:11
I think they'll add another reliever, and a higher-profile one than Blake Parker, but I also wonder if the Allen thing is being played up a bit more because of Derek Falvey's Cleveland background than because he tops their actual list of preferences.
