Steve Adams

He's been a below-league-average hitter every year and doesn't play great defense. Maybe a change of scenery helps him tap into some post-hype breakout, but I think the White Sox should aim higher.
Chris Martin

Baseball Reference says that I'm a free agent in 2024
Steve Adams
4:57
He doesn't have six years of service, but the contract he signed when returning from Japan stipulates that he becomes a free agent when the guaranteed portion ends (at the end of this season)
Ozuna
4:57
You see the Cardinals sign me up long term, because of my sharing the same agent as Molina? Also, will Molina help the Cardinals sign me?
Steve Adams
4:58
Agency thing doesn't matter, really. MDR represents tons of players. And they've only had Ozuna for like 3-4 months.

Even if they'd had him his whole career, I don't think that sort of thing would've mattered, nor do I think Molina will play a huge part.

Hate the Mets much? Why so much venom against them?
Steve Adams
5:00
Saying I didn't think they were that good of a team to begin the season is "hate" and "venom"?
I also just said deGrom will win the Cy, but hey, sure ... I hate them. Alrighty then.

Should the Sox really try to resign Betts knowing their financial condition or trade him to help bring down the $?
Steve Adams
5:01
He's a generational talent who hasn't even turned 27. They SHOULD be trying to re-sign him. Doesn't mean they will.
Fresh Prince
5:02
Will Will Smith will his way into a $50M+ contract?
Steve Adams
5:02
I've got him south of that, but I don't think that's an implausible scenario.
Travis
5:03
Which top free agent signing has the most potential to flop for their next team?
Steve Adams
5:03
Probably Ryu. That's nothing against his talent, but he's going to be fairly expensive coming off an ERA title, despite being a bit older, and his injury history is concerning.

5:04
Can the reds sign Bauer to a long term extension this winter?
Steve Adams
5:04
Bauer has said on multiple occasions that he's going to play out his career on a series of one-year contracts. He won't sign a multi-year deal.

How will the Red Sox afford having Betts and getting their payroll below the luxury tax amount?  I get that Betts is great, but I'd say cash in for some prospects, lower your payroll and build for future some.
Steve Adams
5:05
I don't think a team with the Red Sox' financial resources should give a crap about the luxury tax. They obviously disagree.
5:07
But, seriously... John Henry is worth $2.7 billion. He could shatter the luxury tax and pay ... what? $40 million in penalties? Owners have done a nice job convincing fans that it's a big detriment for them to pay the tax. Nice little sleight of hand.

Bauer as a 3 and Disco as a 4, it's not the Nats or Dodgers, but do you think it is one of the better rotations in the NL?
Steve Adams
5:07
I love the Reds' 2020 rotation foundation. Castillo, Gray, Bauer and DeSclafani is imposing.

if mvp voters votes according to team success, then why is there no real award for the best player in the game regardless of team? there needs to be an award to just see whos the best in baseball right? right??
Steve Adams
5:09
Only some voters vote that way -- and they shouldn't. The most valuable player is the best player, but people love to do mental gymnastics to try to contort the award into something else I guess.
Dodgers
5:09
What money to do the Dodgers have coming off the books his winter?
Steve Adams
5:11
Ryu, Russell Martin, Rich Hill, David Freese. Probably will non-tender or trade some arb guys. They have about $110MM committed to next year, but that's before arb raises to Bellinger, Muncy, Seager, Taylor, Joc, Stripling ... it's an expensive arb class.

What are the most untradeable contracts
Steve Adams
5:13
Miguel Cabrera, Eric Hosmer, Albert Pujols, Wil Myers ... there are lots of bad ones. Cabrera's probably the most untradeable.

What do you foresee happening with Cespedes next year? Any chance at all the Mets can void or buy out that contract? My sense is that he's done as an impact player after all the lower-body injuries. In fact, I'm fairly sure he'll never play again. Thoughts?
Steve Adams
5:15
There's no way to void it or buy it out. MLB's contracts are fully guaranteed unless otherwise stipulated. They're paying him the money.

Rossy at helm for the cubs in 2020?
Steve Adams
5:17
Maybe, although I don't really understand the whole "Recent popular player should manage this team" obsession a lot of people have. Ross was revered in the clubhouse, sure, but he's yet to have any real experience in managing egos, dealing with the media in this capacity, interacting with the front office/analytics department, etc. The widespread assumption that he's an elite manager in the making puzzles me.

Why is no one mentioning me for the Cubs' managerial position?
Steve Adams

Yeah I think he's going to be in the mix.

Will the Tigers earn a compensatory pick in the 2020 draft because they sure could use it to help with this rebuild.
Steve Adams
5:19
They don't have any free agents who'll get a qualifying offer, and they're not in the competitive balance lottery, so nope. Could trade for a Comp Balance pick

Will CLÉ trade Santana?
Steve Adams
5:21
Suppose they could look to move him and bring in a cheaper 1B option (or use Bauers), but I don't see it as a major priority for them.

Why DeGrom for cy? Strasburg had better numbers. From a braves fan too
