Steve Adams

I think Syndergaard is more talented.
Rob
3:36
Why does MLB put playoff baseball on these third rate cable networks?
Steve Adams
3:38
I'm sure they just sell the rights to whoever is offering the most money for them -- not an exciting answer, but hey, it's a business right?
David Price
3:38
Do I opt out and get out of Boston?
Steve Adams
3:38
Nope
John M
3:38
Do you see Twins extending Kyle Gibson, as he if fa after nxt year??
Steve Adams
3:38
I think they'll certainly be open to doing so and would expect them to make him an offer this winter after his best season
Four4fore
3:39
Does Jose Martinez and Luke Weaver get you Nomar Mazar?
Steve Adams
3:40
I think Daniels would give that plenty of consideration, but the Cards have plenty of outfielders as it is with Ozuna, Bader and O'Neill probably all in line for starting roles and several options behind that group. I'm not sure Mazara's a clear upgrade over anyone they have.

When will the top 50 free agent predictions come out?
Steve Adams
3:40
We run them shortly after the World Series.
Cash-Man
3:41
Do I non-tender Didi?  Sign him to an extension?  Or just pay him 12mil for 2 months next year???
Steve Adams
3:43
I think they have to give real consideration to non-tendering him if they think he's going to miss three months of the season. Thy can afford to retain him, of course, but shifting Torres to his natural position and adding a second baseman in a market that'll be flooded with options there makes plenty of sense and frees up additional resources while lessening luxury tax penalties.

3:43
Does it make sense for the Padres to sign Markakis, in part due to his close friendship with Hosmer?
Steve Adams
3:43
San Diego has like 8 OFs as it is.
3:44
Sorry have to take a phone call for 1 min
3:45
Ok
3:46
Sorry about that!
Brian
3:46
Will the Dodgers make a play for Machado?
Steve Adams
3:47
I think they'll be content to consider him a rental, with Seager and Turner holding down the left side of the infield. The common perception that the Dodgers are a financial juggernaut who can outbid anyone is largely true -- but it's also more true that they don't really act that way. They've never outbid the field for a top-echelon free agent to that extend under Friedman & Co.

Do you ever participate in other mlb chats?
Steve Adams
3:49
Every now and then I'll sift through the transcript from chats with McDaniel, Longenhagen and Law just to raise my awareness of prospects.

M. Boyd for Schwarber.  Good deal for Tigers and Cubs?
Steve Adams
3:50
It's much easier to find a quality corner outfielder than a controllable mid-rotation arm -- even if Boyd is viewed as a fourth starter, I'd rather have him than the vast majority of corner OFs. The supply of bat-first corner OFs is just so much greater.

Chances Drew Smyly is a better than league average starter for the Cubs next year?
Steve Adams
3:51
When he's healthy, I think Smyly is wildly underrated. Problem is, he hasn't been all that healthy for a good chunk of his career. If he gives the Cubs 100-120 innings next year, he'll be well worth his deal.

Thoughts on the Iapoce hire?  Does he have any sort of rapport with current players in particular?
Steve Adams
3:52
I don't really pass too much judgment on coaching hires because we really only have insight the tiniest fraction of how they bring value to the team. But he was in the org back in 2015, so I'd imagine that some of the longer-tenured hitters are at least familiar with him.

With the DBacks looking like they are going to sell, what do you think of the Braves going after a Greinke/Peralta package?  Fills the need for a #2 and has the veteran presence to replace Anibal for the pitching staff.
Steve Adams
3:56
That trade alone would put them into record payroll territory (for the franchise) even when factoring in a Duvall non-tender. That's a pretty steep sum for them to take on -- especially when they'd still need to address catcher, the bullpen, etc. Perhaps the D-backs would cover some cash, but then the Braves just have to give up quality prospects most likely.

What do you see JA Happ getting on the market?
Steve Adams
3:56
Two years, $32MMish?
Total, that is
josh Donaldson
3:56
should I take a one year deal and re-establish my market for 2020
Steve Adams
3:57
I don't think he's going to have much of a choice.

3:57
With O's big stash of Internation Pool money, should they go after V V Mesa, or spread it around and try to stock pile talent by signing more prospects?
Steve Adams
3:57
It seems more and more like VVM is going to the Marlins, so they'll probably spread it around. Maybe they come away with Sandy Gaston, though.
Bill
3:58
Odds that Machado or Harper end their next contract with the same team with which they signed?
Steve Adams
3:58
They'll both have multiple opt-out clauses in their deals, most likely, so if they can continue as premium players for 3-4 years, there's a definite chance they land somewhere else than the place they sign this offseason.
Ryan
3:58
Do you think the pirates will make a run at Marwin Gonzalez? I think he fits their roster well w/polonco injury and time available at 3rd and 2b. Probably to much money for them, but hey I can dream right?
