I think he's going to command more than they're comfortable paying, yeah.

Is there a chance the indians make an offer for Nomar Mazara?  Would Tristen McKenzie and another Prospect get it done?
Steve Adams
4:00
I wouldn't give McKenzie for Mazara. I realize Nomar still has tons of upside and is still very young, but he just hasn't been very good in the Majors yet.
And again -- corner OFs are among the easiest assets to acquire on the market without paying a huge premium.

Do the Cubs trade Albert Almora if they don’t plan on making him the full-time CF?
Steve Adams
4:02
If someone comes along and offers them something they deem sufficiently valuable, sure they'd probably consider it. But they're not going to go to the 29 other teams and peddle Almora, then move him for the best offer. He's a nice piece to have even if they only get him 300-450 PAs a season.

What could the Jays realistically get for $15M and Russell Martin?
Steve Adams
4:04
If they could get someone to take the final $5MM of the deal, that in and of itself would be a fine deal

The one player that no on thinks will get traded that winds up getting traded is:
Steve Adams
4:05
I won't be surprised at all if Goldschmidt gets moved, and I think that'd shock a lot of people, even though it's finally starting to be talked about a fair amount.

Does Hunter Pence play ball next season?
Steve Adams
4:08
I can see him signing a minor league deal somewhere, but at this point it's hard to bet too heavily on a legitimate rebound. He'll be 36 in April and has been awful the past two seasons.

What pitcher gets the longest contract?
Steve Adams

Patrick Corbin.

Any thoughts on a destination for Adam Jones?
Steve Adams
4:09
Indians? Had interest in him at the deadline, need OF help, and he won't be expensive.

What do you think the cost for sonny gray will be?
Steve Adams
4:11
Pretty negligible. He had a terrible season, everyone knows the Yankees want to move him, and his arb projection is north of $9MM.  Lots of teams will love the idea of buying low on him, but few will want to surrender much. Could flip him for a solid but overpaid reliever or just a C-level prospect or two probably.

Any chance Billy may be thinking of getting Gray back to the A's??
Steve Adams
4:12
I'd be surprised if they didn't look into it, but two-thirds of the league will probably be doing the same.

Back to your buying a team “rarely works”.....George Steinbrenner would disagree if he were alive
Steve Adams
4:13
It sure worked at one point. It doesn't now.

Ohtani has to play everyday, Steve should I call it a career?
Steve Adams
4:14
As I said earlier -- he's owed $88MM through the end of his contract. Why would he walk away from that?

Arenado for Reyes, Kelly and Hudson
Steve Adams
4:15
Whole lot to give up for one year of Arenado.

Eventually the Mariners have to give Daniel Vogelbach some solid playing time. He’s shown glimpses of his potential this season in very limited at bats, he’s raked in the minors for a few years now. How do you think the mariners will handle the DH/1B positions? Ryon Healy was a massive disappointment.
Steve Adams
4:16
At this point I expect Cruz to go elsewhere, with Vogelbach and Healy both getting a fair bit of playing time next season.

Gennett gets an extension, Senzel to the Outfield and the Reds spend on a legit starter = above .500
Steve Adams
4:18
They already had Gennett this season, so you're saying that a year of Senzel and one starting pitcher (who'd be replacing Harvey, who was sort of useful for them) would make a 29-game difference in the standings and wipe out their -123 run differential? I disagree.
Frankly, I think the Reds are outright delusional if they believe they can contend in 2019, but maybe they'll pull together an offseason that surprises/changes the thinking.

2 of the top 3 payrolls are in the LCS.  Buying good players still works.
Steve Adams
4:21
Buying some good players to supplement a strong core of drafted/developed players and some misfit pickups (Max Muncy, et al) certainly works, sure. And the ability to do so makes those clubs less averse to risk. But the scenario that brought about that question was "Why don't the Rangers just go spend a boatload in free agency to pack their new stadium in 2020?"

An awful disaster of a team trying to buy its way out of the whole isn't going to work.

Does Wade Miley get multiple years?
Steve Adams
4:22
I don't think so. Outside of his ERA and ground-ball rate, he hasn't done all that much. He's not missing bats, is walking too many guys and gives up way too much hard contact.

Today John Mozeliak said "We’ve consistently won without a face of the franchise player post-Pujols era" does he consider a worse finish every season and 3 straight playoff misses consistently winning?
Steve Adams
4:24
They've been above .500 every season; he's correct that they've consistently put a winning product on the field. In a lot of divisions, they'd have had multiple playoff berths -- they just happen to be in a very tough one. Not making excuses for him or saying they've done a great job, but I can't disagree with anything he said in this instance.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like players hitting HRs celebrating to much from the third base to the dugout ?
Steve Adams
4:26
Celebrate your ass off. Have fun. It's a game, and emotion is fun to see. The "unwritten rules" are archaic and dull.

Ian Happ & Addison Russell for Whit Merrifield? Or would the Cubs be giving up too much in that trade?
