Can you see him managing the Angels or Twins next year?
Steve Adams
3:32
Angels seem more plausible with the Eppler connection there
Christian
3:33
If a team plays game 163, do the players get an extra day of pay/service time?
Steve Adams
3:34
I would imagine that is the case, but I honestly have not looked into it before. I will now though, thanks for the idea
King James
3:34
Would you choose Mike Scioscia or Dave Roberts as your manager?
Steve Adams
3:34
Roberts, without hesitation

May have already been asked, but when can we expect the annual Free Agent Predictions post and contest? Always one of my highlights of the offseason! Thanks!
Steve Adams
3:34
Free agent predictions typically come out within a few days of the World Series' conclusion

Is there anything I can do with Ian Kennedy?
Steve Adams
3:37
He's "only" owed two years and $33MM at this point. I'd imagine you could swap that out for another bad deal, but if you're talking just getting someone to take him on ... man. Royals would need to pay most of the deal and send a minor leaguer or something. He might get like a one-year deal worth $3-4MM in free agency right now (at best)

Do you see the Tigers trading Nick Castellanos this offseason?  If so what type of return do you think they could get?
Steve Adams
3:40
I don't think he has tons of value. He's only controlled for one more season, and he grades out as the actual worst defensive outfielder in baseball. And he was only moved to the OF because he was unplayable at third base. He's like a poor man's JD Martinez -- and the difference between his bat and Martinez's is pretty significant. If there's a team out there that is still OK with having a dedicated DH who doesn't play in the field basically ever, maybe they'd want him, but I can't see him fetching much of a prospect haul at this point.
3:41
Castellanos is a very good hitter, to be clear, but teams have really moved away from all-bat players -- and he is the all-battiest all-bat player in the game right now with the possible exception of Nelson Cruz

Ballpark for possible extensions for K. Davis and Jed Lowrie? Would 3/30 for each feel right?
Steve Adams
3:44
I don't think Lowrie gets three years at his age. Something more like $18-24MM over two years would seem better. Davis is tough -- there's another all-bat guy! -- because I think Oakland just values him so much more than most teams would. His camp would assuredly find 3/30 to be too light. He's already earning $10.5MM in 2018. Could try to sell him on like $45-48MM over three years.
Khrush already knows he's getting something like $13-14MM if they tender him, so for him to take 3/30 would actually be like him taking a total of $15-16MM for his first two free-agent years.
I shouldn't say "if" they tender him a contract -- the A's will.

How about Felix for Ian kennedy?
Steve Adams
3:46
Felix could block the trade. But conceptually, something like that where the Royals take on a bad one-year commitment to send IPK to a team that doesn't mind the more spread-out two-year commitment isn't bad thinking.

Reds and Homer Bailey, perhaps?
3:48
Homer could block the deal, too, but maybe he'd prefer a fresh start away from the city where all he hears is how he's the worst contract in team history. Plus, pitching in Kauffman >>> pitching at GABP. I sort of like that idea. Royals' books are freed up sooner -- Reds get a more serviceable (albeit still not very good) arm. Not the worst pie-in-the-sky scenario to be born from these chats.

Why hasn’t Buck Showalter been fired? Is there a chance he won’t?
Steve Adams
3:49
He's not going to be "fired" even if they don't retain him. His contract is up, so if anything they just won't renew him.

I'm sure the O's are just talking things over and sorting out some coaching/front office issues still. There's no immediate need to announce his dismissal. There'll probably be multiple managers who are ousted over the next couple of weeks.
Enough change
3:49
The sabermetric nerds are ruining baseball. Castellanos is the worst defensive OF in baseball? Hoskins? Schwarber? I saw a metric the other day, that suggested Schwarber as one of the better LF's in all of baseball. If you ask me, the game is changing for the worse, so maybe they should just leave it alone.
Steve Adams
3:51
"The sabermetric nerds are ruining baseball" for who? For you? Ok. I enjoy newer numbers and new ways of looking at things. And they're obviously effective -- look who keeps winning the World Series and making the postseason every year.

As for Castellanos -- yes, he grades out worse than Hoskins (barely) and Schwarber. Schwarber lost like 35 pounds and has been genuinely improved in the outfield this year -- a year in which he's also another 12 months removed from major knee surgery (which also limited his mobility)
3:52
"Don't change, keep doing things the way they've always been done" is a bad take like 95% of the time. Sorry you don't like it, but that's how baseball -- and all sports -- are going. Data is everywhere, everything is more quantifiable than ever before, and people want to know about it.

Should I trade Goldy and start a rebuild?
Steve Adams
3:53
I would be very open to moving Goldschmidt and Robbie Ray. I don't know that the D-backs will do it, but I think they should consider it.
Chris Davis
3:53
Am I ever even remotely valuable again? Can I possibly get any worse than this season?
Steve Adams
3:54
Can't really get WORSE than this year. I certainly hope he can rebound to an extent. It's hard not to feel bad for the guy on a human level. It must be agony to see your skills erode at something that you once thrived on, and to be all too cognizant of the perception that you're torpedoing an organization that you love for giving so much to you and your family.

Non-Tender Avisail Garcia?
Steve Adams
3:56
They're in a really tough spot with him. I think they'll hold on because they can afford to and it would just look pretty bad to hang onto him, talk about him as a long-term piece which is why you didn't trade him, etc. etc. etc. and then non-tender him.
You're Tired
3:56
Why do you always have such snarky answers to your reader's questions? If you hate it, then quit. I never thought Jason would pass you on the chat preference totem pole, but you are now unreadable. Jeff's chats are the only ones worth reading anymore. P.S. Just because a player is involved in a domestic issue, doesn't mean they should be banned from the game. People makes mistakes you schmuck.
Steve Adams
3:59
Apparently I could ask you the same question about why you read my chats. You're not forced to be here.

Also -- and this is a comment on domestic abuse in general, not Addison Russell -- buying the wrong kind of milk at the store is a mistake. Assaulting your wife/girlfriend/whoever transcends "I made a mistake."

Beyond that -- I don't recall ever saying Addison Russell should be banned from baseball. But hey, you do you. Have fun in Jeff's chats. I agree -- they're great.

david wright as new manager of mets  he deserves it
Steve Adams

He's already said he doesn't want to manage, I believe.

Who has more value: Max Fried or Sean Newcomb?  Asking because I bet the Braves will trade one of them this offseason
Steve Adams
4:00
I'd say Newcomb -- he's already proven that he can have a serviceable season in the Majors and flashed more upside than that. Though for those reasons, I also wouldn't be in a rush to trade him.

Do you think Charlie Morton resigns with the Astros?
Steve Adams
4:02
He just makes so much sense to accept a QO. He's not sure how long he wants to play, he'd be getting a huge pay raise, he's going to be selective about his teams, he knows he'll be in contention next year, etc.

With the lack of a number one or even a true number two starter, will the Brewers’ success tell other clubs that great starting pitching isn’t absolutely necessary to compete?
