Will the Pirates buyout Harrison? If so, will that money be used to sign Cutch or maybe go after Machado?
Steve Adams
3:35
I think Harrison is bought out, yeah. I'm not sure there's a less likely team in baseball, and that includes the Rays, than the Pirates when it comes to signing Machado. Also think McCutchen will be too pricey for them. I don't say that to be insulting -- it's just reality. The Pirates would never spend at Machado levels.

Does 27 YO Yusei Kikuchi get a 5 year contract ?
Steve Adams
3:36
In most cases, high-profile pitchers from NPB and KBO have signed for six or more years.

If the Jays were to make it known that they would trade Kevin Pillar, would there be much interest? His fielding has deteriorated a bit and he can't hit after April, but would anyone give a decent prospect for him?
Steve Adams
3:38
The glove alone would draw plenty of interest, and I'm sure other clubs would have their own theories on how to extract more offense from him. He's sort of hit in the past.

I hear a lot of Schwarber for White Merrifield trade scenarios.  There's no way the Royals part with a cheaper and  more controllable 5.5 WAR player, right?
Steve Adams
3:38
I don't know who's putting those scenarios out there, but Merrifield on his own is worth vastly more than Schwarber.

Rox sign Grandal and aquire Justin Smoak, re sign Otto, and they win the offseason
Steve Adams
3:40
I don't think they have the payroll space to make the vast majority of that work after pumping $106MM into the bullpen last winter and signing Desmond the offseason prior. Smoak could fit into the budget, but Grandal and Ottavino are looking at $10MM+ annual salaries. They've largely ignored obvious needs at catcher and first base in the past, as well, so not sure they'll suddenly decide both are worth upgrading in significant fashion.

Do the Braves pry away Salvador Lopez from KC?
Steve Adams
3:41
Royals won't trade Salvy

Desmond, cash and a decent prospect for Smoak?
Steve Adams
3:43
There's no reason for the Jays to take Desmond back, even if the Rox are paying half his salary. They'd have to eat the vast majority of the remaining deal, and even then, I'm not sure why Toronto would want him.

With former Astros BP coach on board with the Angels coaching staff, makes more of a plausible case for Keuchel signing with the Angels?
Steve Adams
3:44
Doubt it'll have much of an impact on their pursuit at all. They're either going to offer the most money or not, and being able to ask the former 'Stros bullpen coach for an opinion probably won't sway the offer by any appreciable sum.

What are the chances Kershaw opts out?  They've been so close but don
Steve Adams
3:44
I cannot stress how strongly I believe that he will opt out. It's not even a question in my mind. It's a certainty. I do think he ends up back with the Dodgers, though.
Steve
3:45
Will Wade Miley get any significant offers?
Steve Adams
3:46
He didn't miss any bats, gave up tons of hard contact and didn't show great control. He posted fluky marks in home run rate, strand rate and BABIP. He's a huge regression candidate, and teams will be aware of that. He can probably get a one-year deal somewhere as a fifth SP option, but 80 innings of a shiny ERA total isn't going to do much for him when the rest of the numbers are as ugly as they are.

Whose hiring of a former agent is worse in the immediate aftermath, Mets or D-backs
Steve Adams
3:47
I can't fathom the Mets' reasoning for this decision, but it'd be hard to top that ill-fated D-backs regime.
Cashman
3:48
Ellsbury, Chance Adams for Zach Greinke. Dbacks save $50M. Plausible?
Steve Adams
3:50
Greinke's contract isn't even THAT bad anymore -- he's got 3/95 left, and I don't see reason to think he'd command any less than Arrieta's 3/75 on the open market. So maybe he's a tad overpriced, at worst.

There's no scenario I can envision in which the D-backs take on Ellsbury's negative-value deal, give up a quality asset that's only marginally too expensive, and do so in order to add a marginal pitching prospect coming off a terrible season.

Does Moustakas fit in Anaheim if he can play 1B?
Steve Adams
3:50
Eppler has continually stressed OBP skills, which Moose lacks. Plus they'll need 1B open for Pujols often, as they'll need DH open for Ohtani.

Are the Mariners ready to start a rebuild ?
Steve Adams
3:51
They won 89 games in 2018. I don't see that.

If Didi is non tendered can someone pick him up off waivers or will he be a free agent?
Steve Adams
3:51
If he's non-tendered he's a free agent.
3:52
But, the Yankees could DFA him before that date and run him through waivers, i suppose.

Does Grandal get a QO?
Steve Adams
3:54
Grandal's inability to catch the ball in the postseason was one of the weirdest mental meltdowns I can recall. Prior to the playoffs there wasn't a doubt in my mind, but I'm genuinely on the fence now. I generally think people wildly overstate the impact the postseason has on a player's earning power -- it's almost all BS narrative -- but in this instance I do think the possibility exists that he created enough concern to legitimately cost him some cash. We backed down our contract prediction for him a ways, and it's rare that we do that based on postseason performance.

Teams involved in the Zach Britton market?
Steve Adams
3:55
Half to two thirds of the league. Basically every club with any eyes on contending in 2019 will at least inquire and gauge his asking price.
