Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 10/8/24

Their last several GM changes have just been internal promotions. The Rockies are as insular as any organization in MLB. This is what they do. It shouldn't be a surprise.

What type of contract does Buehler land this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:42
Something along Flaherty's current deal (one year, $14MM)
3:43
Maybe a little less since Flaherty at least put up innings last season.

Do you see the D'Backs making a run for Crochet?  And will the D'Backs go for a establish closer for 2025?
Steve Adams
3:44
I think just about every team will show some level of interest in Crochet this offseason. Maybe not other rebuilders/resetters/retoolers (Cardinals, Marlins, etc.) -- but everyone's going to be in the mix for an arm like that.

I don't think the D-backs are going to sign Tanner Scott or a big long-term deal for a reliever, but if they signed like ... David Robertson or Kenley Jansen, sure I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Who can the Yankees target for 1B next season?
Steve Adams
3:46
Alonso, Christian Walkker, Paul Goldschmidt -- plenty of options in free agency.

Dodgers starting rotation next year: SO, YoYam, Glasnow, May, Gonsolin. Best 5?
Steve Adams
3:47
I don't think there's any way they pass on adding to the rotation this winter. Can't assume health from that group.

Has Kyle Higashioka made himself a lot of money this post-season? If so, what does his market look like?
Steve Adams
3:50
I think he can get a couple years based on the defense and power, but his age doesn't make it a lock. Rays, Jays, Padres all make some sense, to name a few. Tampa Bay could really use a righty-hitting catcher.

I picked Ozuna's option, I have Soler for two more years, Acuña will get some early DH time. Is there anyway to make this arrangement work in 2025? If not, which one is more likely to get moved in the winter Ozuna or Soler?
Steve Adams
3:51
Have to try to find a taker for Soler. He hit well enough that you can probably find interest but won't get much of a return. I don't think they'd move Ozuna when he's been their best offensive player the past two seasons on the whole.

Hot take, but Angels young core isn't hopeless. With a healthy Trout -- big if -- that roster isn't as far off from competing as it appears.
Steve Adams
3:52
I like Neto and O'Hoppe. Not a big Schanuel guy. The pitching staff is bleak. I don't see a contending team even if Trout plays 150 games and puts up a 10-WAR season, but let's see what the offseason holds. We only know a portion of the roster right now.

Ok, I've got to call it for the week. I'm on X @Adams_Steve.
