If the Reds would take $45MM of Castellanos' remaining $60MM off the Phillies' hands, I imagine the Phils would just give him to them. I think they'd need to eat far more salary than that. Castellanos has not been good in Philly.

If the Giants signed any two of these pitcher Nola, Yamamoto, Rodriguez, Gray, Snell, Montgomery and got some type of combo of hitters like Hoskins, Bader, Justin Turner, Tim Anderson, Teoscar Hernandez would it be a successful free agent offseason
Steve Adams
1:22
Signing pitchers to the type of contracts most of those guys will require has been antithetical to the way Farhan Zaidi runs the front office, but sure, if they signed like Yamamoto, Gray, Bader and Turner or something, you'd have to like the offseason pretty well.

Every team has high power guys who strike out. Why do the mariners have no interest in resigning to?
Steve Adams
1:24
I assume this is supposed to read Teo? As in Teoscar Hernandez? He hit terribly at T-Mobile Park, for one. Beyond that, I doubt they really want to pay upwards of $20MM per year for his bat, and I do imagine that's where he can land (though of all our picks on the Top 50, I might be least confident in the 4/80 we put down for him)

Trade for Soto, sign both Kiermayer and Yamamota. Is that enough to contend??
Steve Adams
1:25
For who? The Royals or A's? No. For the Yankees or any other quasi-2023 contender? Probably.

How hard is it to correctly guess where a non top tier pitcher will sign? It seems like 90% of teams are always in the market for more pitching.
Steve Adams
1:25
It's hard to correctly guess where most free agents will sign -- star-caliber or not. Even with the top pitchers, there's probably like 7-10 teams that are realistic landing spots for each.

On this board we have read of a rumor or chatter or whatever about the NYYs trading Gleyber to the Red Sox for Alex Verdugo.  I can think of at least 3 or 4 reasons why this is a really bad idea for NY.  Can you think of one good one?
Steve Adams
1:26
Anthony will have something about this on the site before too long actually. I think it's a fine framework, but the Red Sox would have to include more than just Verdugo, for me.

Do you see a way for the twins to add montas and Hoskins if the payroll is coming down? Fully expect to see polanco and Kepler traded
Steve Adams
1:28
They're only at $125MM right now. If the goal is $125-140MM, that's easily doable. I agree that Polanco and Kepler are strong trade candidates. They could probably find a taker for Vazquez given the light market for catchers and perennial need, especially if they take back a reliever contract or include a few million bucks or something. I imagine Kyle Farmer is traded or non-tendered, so there's another $6-7MM.

Hoskins/Montas should be perfectly doable if those are acquisitions that pique their interest.

could Knizner be moved this offseason? Maybe to the marlins
Steve Adams
1:29
Sure, but I don't think they'd get much of anything for him. He's also just a straight non-tender candidate for me.

Taveras, Duran, Foscue for Burnes, Williams.   Who says no?
Steve Adams
1:30
Not enough for the Brewers

1:31
Do you see the Jays going after someone like Rhys Hoskins to play 1B/DH in 2024?
Steve Adams
1:31
They're already verrrrry right-handed
Ryan
1:31
It seems like Trevor Bauer would be a good fit for the Braves, what are your thoughts?
Steve Adams
1:32
I have no clue if anyone will sign Bauer. No one did last year
Rays claimed Tyler Alexander from the Tigers, who DFA'ed him earlier in the week

What do you see the Orioles doing this offseason, specifically regarding free agents, including those being posted from Japan??
Steve Adams
1:33
It's wild to me that Elias is already kind of downplaying the possibility of going after a true No. 1 starter. Basically saying "anyone in the top half of a rotation would be wonderful." Maybe that's just trying to manage expectations and he'll more doggedly pursue Yamamoto, etc. than he's letting on. But if not, it's a huge disappointment. They need high-end arms to surround this nucleus of young players, and the payroll is practically blank. Get aggressive.

Not crazy to me

Any surprise signings by the guardians? Thx!
Steve Adams
1:36
As Tim Dierkes pointed out in defending our lack of Guardians picks on the top 50 free agent list, they've signed exactly one guy from our top 50 in the past six years. Josh Bell, who was dumped on Miami just a few months later.

I still think it's at least possible they sign someone like Gurriel or Soler, but I generally don't expect them to be big players in free agency.

Jorge Polanco for Corbin Burnes: Who says no?
Steve Adams
1:36
Brewers
White Sox
1:36
Odds the White Sox actually are open to trade anyone, and if so would that include Robert?
Steve Adams
1:37
I think the asking price on Robert would be so outlandish that it just wouldn't get done. Like, bigger than the package the Padres sent to the Nats for Soto.

Four years of Robert at a max of $67.5MM is a laughable bargain, injury risks or not.

Which FAs did you predict the Rangers to sign in the MLBTR contest?
Steve Adams
1:38
I only have them getting two of the top 50, sorry. Jason Heyward
Oh, and Shohei Ohtani
1:39
Also might change that Heyward one but hell I needed to put him somewhere, haha. (I didn't want him on our Top 50 but I was overruled by the rest of the team)

Will we be able to see your picks since they weren’t on the original article
Steve Adams
1:39
They'll be on the leaderboard. And I'm sending them out to our Front Office subscribers today as well.
Orioles
1:40
I’m going to predict it, Marcus Stroman will be an Oriole! Do you feel the same?
Steve Adams

Plausible, sure
