Doesn't mean an extension is impossible, but while I think the whole "Boras won't sign a deal" is overstated, I do think it's less likely that someone eyeing an extension would make that move.
I suppose Jonathan Schoop did it though!

How does the recent SP signings (DeSclafani for example) affect Jon Gray's value in terms of years and $? If the "Coors effect" is wildly overstated for offense numbers, why then are we so quick to readjust Gray's mediocre home and road numbers to a tier just below the top pitchers? I get it, he throws hard but how is he not being over-valued by the "experts" with his proposed contract?

People aren't betting on Gray because they adjusted for Coors. At least we weren't. I shouldn't speak for everyone.

We put Gray at 4/56 based on age, velocity, spin, K-BB%, GB%, and the general belief that teams are going to look at him as a font of untapped potential because the Rockies are so behind the curve in terms of data and analytics. Gray was the No. 3 overall pick in the draft based largely on the quality of his pure stuff, and some teams still believe there's another gear or two into which he can tap.

I think it is, yeah. But the only multi-year deal the Angels have given to a free-agent pitcher since 2012 was Aaron Loup's deal this week.

Why trade Walls? Wendle is a FA in 2022, trade him, instead, and Walls slides in at 3rd.

Wendle is controlled through 2023, though the Rays of course could trade him before then.

Walls' biggest selling point is his glove at shortstop. Could play him there and move Franco to 3B, I suppose. Also have Brujan to consider.

My thought process in saying "Walls is a good target for SS-needy teams" isn't that the Rays should sell him just to sell him. Rather, that teams should come to Tampa Bay offering MLB help in other areas because Walls is at least somewhat superlative given TB's amazing infield depht.
