Obviously Corbin being in Philly today may end up meaning nothing, but in the event that he goes somewhere else what do you see Cashman doing in NY? Does he try re-signing Happ, or another trade (Bumgarner, Kluber, Carrasco, etc)?
Steve Adams
3:32
Happ, Keuchel, one of the Indians' starters -- there'll be plenty of options to explore if the bidding for Corbin goes beyond their comfort level
AA
3:32
Bumgarner for Newcomb Pache and Gohara?
Steve Adams
3:32
I wouldn't give up that much for one year of Bumgarner, who, again, hasn't been very good for the past two years.
Well -- hasn't been elite. He's been good. But not great.

3:32
Should I keep or trade Edwin Diaz?
Steve Adams
3:33
I have to imagine he'd command more at the trade deadline, when teams seem to habitually be falling over themselves to land elite bullpen help

Does a Contreras for Realmuto swap make sense?  Contreras has 4 full years of control left.
Steve Adams
3:36
Be that as it may, Realmuto is better right now. So you're talking about making the Marlins a worse team in 2019-20 (when they'd have Realmuto) in order to be in the same position again two years from now. Maybe the rest of their core is in place and Willson's bat bounces back, but if they're dealing JTR they're getting multiple MLB-ready or near-MLB-ready pieces.

Leake, Segura, Haniger for Myers, Renfro, Austin Allen, Jacob Nix?
Steve Adams
3:37
Padres fan, eh?

3:37
I admire the Marlins' willingness to hold out for top prospects for Realmuto. Who do you think pulls the trigger and (probably) over-pays for him?
Steve Adams
3:37
Dodgers or Astros seem like the teams with the biggest need/motivation and the best stockpile of resources to do so.

Do you see the halos being competitive next year? With so many areas of need, what should they prioritize?
Steve Adams
3:40
It depends so heavily on health. They were killed by so many injuries in '18 -- and not just on the pitching staff. I'm not sure if we're talking freak bad luck or some genuine deficiencies in their processes to keep players healthy, but they're on a two-year run unlike virtually any I can recall seeing.

They have a decent core of pitchers there if they can keep Heaney and Skaggs healthy, plus add a decent starter. But it's also going to be hard to really keep up with the Astros' well-rounded roster and the Athletics' young lineup. (Oakland's pitching also needs quite a bit of work, though)

Will the Dbacks be able to rid themselves of Greinke by attaching him to Goldy?
Steve Adams
3:41
Greinke's contract isn't such an overpay that they need to do that. I wrote yesterday that I think he'd get something like Arrieta money in free agency if he were on the open market -- perhaps a bit more. Trade Goldy in a separate deal, get a great return, and just eat some cash to get a taker for Greinke -- even if the return is meh

What kind of deal does JA Happ end up with? Seems like he has had a fair amount of interest.
Steve Adams
3:42
We put him at 3/48 -- I still think that seems reasonable.

3:43
Trade Bundy or let Elias' team try and data-magic him back to effectiveness and THEN trade him?
Steve Adams
3:43
I wouldn't sell low on Bundy's arm coming off that up and down season
Daniel Murphy
3:44
What does my market look like? The Yankees could use me, but I don't think they'll give me as long of a deal as I want.
Steve Adams
3:45
I don't think he's going to get more than two years wherever he signs. I do agree that the Yankees might top out at one year there, though, since they don't really need to lock themselves into multiple years with all the depth they have.

Will the indians be able to afford AJ Pollock without trading Gomes or a SP?
Steve Adams
3:45
I don't think they'd pay for Pollock even if they traded Gomes AND a starter.

Are Corbin & Kuechel overrated FAs in weak market? Seems like a dearth if left handed starters but not much RH value.
Steve Adams
3:47
Patrick Corbin was one of the 10-15 best starters in baseball last year and will pitch most of next season at 29. I don't think he's overrated at all. Keuchel, I suppose it depends on how you perceive him. He's a solid mid-rotation arm who I think can be relied upon for 180+ innings of 3.50 to 3.75ish ERA ball with the upside for a bit better, perhaps. At Rick Porcello money, I think he's a fine value.
If Boras is out there asking for $130MM (which he probably is), then sure, I don't think he's worth that.

Do you think the Giants have ANY chance at moving some of Longorias contract?
Steve Adams
3:50
Sure, but I think they'd need to eat a massive portion of it after he OBP'ed .280 last season. But if you want to be technical, and they eat $40MM or something (which seems unrealistic), I'm sure some teams would start to warm up to the idea of buying low

If a player is non-tendered, what are the obligations of the team that signs him? Will they undergo arbitration again or will that remaining year of arb disappear?
Steve Adams
3:51
If they're non-tendered with under five years of big league service, they'll be arb-eligible again in the future. The Astros non-tendered Mike Fiers last winter with 4+ years of service, for instance. He signed a one-year deal with the Tigers, was traded to Oakland, and is now arb-eligible for one final offseason.

With all the money the Twins have to spend, is it crazy that they’d go after Keuchel??
Steve Adams
3:52
I don't think so. They offered Darvish $100MM+ last winter.
CheeseMan
3:52
How much cheese do you think Kent Hrbek eats on a daily basis?
Steve Adams
3:52
This question will keep me up at night

3:53
What would Anthony Rendon command if he were a free agent this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:54
$300MM+ -- not sure he'd reach Machado/Harper levels of insanity since he's a couple years older, but they'd have every right to ask for a monster contract.
Oaklandish
3:55
What moves does Oakland need to make in order to be a legitimate contender next season? Keuchel would pitch great in that ballpark.
Steve Adams
3:57
Sure he would, but I can't see them spending $20MM+ annually on one starter when they need several of them. They wouldn't be able to afford the type of contract he'll be seeking, even if they're OK upping payroll. I think they'll add multiple second- and third-tier options and maybe engineer some kind of trade for another arm (Robbie Ray?)
