Chat With MLBTR's Steve Adams: 11/28/17

Is Gleyber Torres going to be a SS of the Seager, Lindor, Correa caliber?
Steve Adams
3:50
As it stands right now he's not even going to be a shortstop. Didi Gregorius has that locked down, so Torres will be debuting at third or second, depending of course on other moves and injuries.

I wouldn't ever expect any prospect to be destined for that level of output; you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

With the rays shopping Colome should the NATS try to get him?  Or go with Dolittle?
Steve Adams
3:52
I don't think they're actively shopping him so much as they're open to the idea of parting with him because they're eminently cognizant of their ongoing payroll cycle. No reason for the Nats not to explore the possibility -- pushing everyone down a peg and bumping your seventh-best reliever for a guy like Colome is an easy way to make any roster better

when does mlb re up its top 100 prospect list?
Steve Adams
3:54
MLB, Baseball America, ESPN, Fangraphs, etc. will all do that in the spring sometime

Could Evan Longoria be a fit for the Giants? Any talk of him getting dealt?
Steve Adams
3:56
It's at least been speculated upon by Marc Topkin from the TB Times, who is the king of all things Rays related, but it's just another contract that'll put the Giants right up against or over the luxury tax. I just have a hard time seeing them make one of these massive splashes that everyone is hoping for in the end.
Just a random commenter

Rays a fit for mark reynolds?
Steve Adams
3:56
They're a fit for any 1B who will kind of linger on the market into Jan/Feb, so yeah that makes sense
Michael Pineda
3:57
Whats to be expected with him? How long will he be out for and do you think he could wind up back in Seattle
Steve Adams
3:58
He won't pitch in 2018, so you're looking at a one year/club option scenario, a cheap two-year guarantee or him just sitting out entirely until next winter. Depends on how much risk he's willing to assume in order to maximize his 2019 earnings.

Will the White Sox actually be willing to move Jose Abreau?
Steve Adams
3:59
If they were willing to move 3 years of Sale, 5 years of Eaton, 3.5 years of Quintana, etc. -- of course they'll be willing to deal two years of Abreu, who is more expensive than any of that trio

Best Rule 5 prospect available?
Steve Adams
4:00
I am not the best person to ask that question. I'd imagine that over the next two weeks, JJ Cooper from Baseball American and Jonathan Mayo from MLB.com will be doing tons of stuff on potential Rule 5 guys, so check them out. Their stuff is always great

Matt Adams to Cleveland?
Steve Adams
4:01
Problem with any team committing to Adams right now is that he's not any better than the guys that are going to linger on the 1B market and be available for a similar, if not cheaper price come January. And in the meantime, you basically block yourself off from taking on a more unexpected value in the interim.

Anyone interested in Mike Minor ?
Steve Adams
4:02
I would imagine that literally two-thirds of the league has serious interest in Minor, and the other third is only uninterested because it knows he's going to be outside their price range.

When do yo think Ohtani will sign? Do you think Starlin' Castro to the Mets makes sense for both sides?
Steve Adams
4:04
Ohtani: Probably not until near the end of his three-week window... so shortly before Christmas.

Starlin: "To the Mets" doesn't hold much weight if you're not listing the other half of the transaction. Are the Mets simply eating his contract? Sure. Are they giving up actual prospect talent? Then no.

There are probably 8-10 viable 2B options on the market between FA and the trade market... giving up anything of value for a very average (at best) option with $22MM remaining on his contract doesn't seem wise.

Would the Twins be interested in bringing Jaime Garcia back?
Steve Adams
4:05
Is Jaime going to be excited to go to the team that acquired him for five days and then traded him again? Probably not. Plus, Minnesota seems to be aiming higher. I wouldn't bank on that match

4:05
Any surprise there were no takers for Appel?
Steve Adams
4:06
Eh, mild surprise in that it's just jarring to see a fairly recent 1-1 pick clear waivers. But he's had elbow and shoulder problems and generally stunk in Triple-A. Separate him from the name value and it's not much of a shock.

Ok, I have to wrap this up for the week. Jason will chat tomorrow night at 6:30pm CT. Jeff on Thursday 2pm CT. I'm on Twitter: @Adams_Steve.

Enjoy the rest of your week and thanks for chatting!
