Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 12/10/21

Stroman feels more like they were surprised to be able to get him at those reasonable terms. I still don't like them for Correa, but I will say that I have at least somewhat similar thoughts to you following the Stroman deal. I didn't think they'd even go that big in free agency, so now I'm wondering if there's a 5-10% chance they just say "screw it let's do this" and push for Correa. Prior to Stroman I'd have said I thought the odds were about zero.

The Brewers have nothing to lose with this try out? Is his head on straight now?
Steve Adams
12:34
Guy has transformed his body and is absolutely jacked now. He's like, Eric Thames-level ripped. It's a minor league deal with no spring training invite .... you can't get lower-risk than that.

Wonder if Rodon's lack of QO might have been from a gentleman's agreement to not offer it in exchange for the 2021 signing?
Steve Adams
12:35
Yeah, that's crossed my mind as well. The simple fact of the matter is that we don't know, however, so everyone's just guessing.
Polanco

Twins have a need at SS…..Hello
Steve Adams
12:36
Jorge Polanco is a bad defensive shortstop who just had a career-year with the bat while playing predominantly second base.
Keep him at 2B. Let him rake.
Astros
12:36
Paul DeJong a good buy low option for our SS vacancy?
Steve Adams
12:37
If the Cards are willing to move on from DeJong and want to either pursue Story/Correa or just give Sosa a bigger look, I'd be all over DeJong. That goes for Houston, Minnesota, Colorado -- any team that has a hole at SS
12:38
The glove is still great, he barreled more balls than ever before (albeit with a lower overall average exit velo, which points to a lot of weak outs)... the contract is reasonable. Absolutely.

Twins starting rotation is pretty sad.    I for one am not looking forward to a opening day starter named Bunde, unless it’s Al Bunde.      Are they gonna look into the A’s or Reds starters that are in the block ?
Steve Adams
12:40
They'll add at least one and probably two more starters before Opening Day. Bundy's a fine reclamation project, from my vantage point, and the price was more than reasonable (especially with that club option tacked on)
Pirates
12:41
Is Reynolds being overvalued? He's controllable and had a great year, but doesn't have a very long track record - not exactly an established star yet.
Steve Adams
12:42
He has exactly 1400 MLB plate appearances and is a .290/.368/.490 hitter who can play a passable CF or a strong corner OF.
12:43
(I do think he's established, and don't think he's overvalued)

I want Trever Rogers as my #2 in our rotation. Who am i sending over to MIA?
Steve Adams
12:45
I can't imagine a realistic scenario where the Marlins move Rogers.
Pad Squad
12:45
Gore and Abrams for Bieber and JRam who says no?
Steve Adams
12:46
Gore's stock is down a good bit at this point. There are teams who don't even consider him among the Padres' five best prospects by now. Cleveland's not moving Bieber and Ramirez for that pairing, no matter how highly regarded Abrams is.

Do you ever get such ridiculous trade proposals that you feel you're being trolled?
Steve Adams
12:48
I get some that I know are trolls! But yeah, I'm sometimes on the fence about something being serious or not, ha.
12:52
Ok, I have to wrap this up for the week. I'll do another chat next week, though I think we may have another chat hosted by a recent big leaguer (mystery host!!!!) lined up on Tuesday, so I might end up going Monday. We'll see. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve for more questions.

I apologize for the literal hundreds (possibly thousand-plus) questions I couldn't get to. We have over 800 people here right now and have had people coming and going throughout the chat. There's no way to get to everything.

For those who are interested, we do host a weekly chat with our Front Office subscribers and run a weekly email mailbag, hosted by Tim Dierkes. Generally speaking, you're more than 10x likelier to get a question answered by those means.

It does cost a few dollars a month, but you'll also receive weekly email columns from Anthony and myself as well. You can get more info and sign up here:

Thank you, as always, for chatting. I hope everyone has a great weekend, a happy holiday season -- and that we're all surprised by an unexpectedly swift lockout resolution.
Not holding my breath on that last one, though, ha.
12:53
Thanks everyone! We'll do it again next week.
