Stanton's contract was already set in stone. It behooves execs from teams to put out the message that Bryce and Manny can't get the money they're looking for. I think they'll both get paid, though I'm legitimately starting to wonder if Machado will do something like a shorter-term deal (not a short-term deal, mind you -- just shorter than 10) with a huge AAV and multiple opt-outs early on. (Realistically, both players will probably get a couple of opt-outs in their contracts)

Reds more likely to snag someone like Keuchel or make a trade for a SP?
Steve Adams
3:37
Trade. As the early stages of the offseason have proven, it's a tough sell to tell a pitcher "Hey come to our band box here at GABP after five straight non-playoff seasons." Reds fans hate when I say it, but it's true.

What do you think about Jed Lowrie for the Dodgers?
Steve Adams
3:38
I'd like Lowrie on the Dodgers, Brewers, Nationals, Angels, Twins, A's -- lots of places. He's a good fit for plenty of teams, the Dodgers among them for sure.

Braves sign Marwin Gonzales to play left field and wait to see what teams become sellers at the deadline and aquire their LF of the future. Sound about right?
Steve Adams
3:39
I don't hate the idea at all -- but as is the case with Lowrie (and even more so with Marwin), you could make an easy argument for why he fits all over the league.

Where's the love for Mesoraco, Wieters, Lucroy, etc
Steve Adams
3:40
None of them have played well enough recently to merit much love

Odubel Herrera for Nick Castellanos 1-for-1. Do either the Phillies or Tigers say no to that? If that were to happen, could the Phillies get away with McCutchen in CF for 2019 with Castellanos and Harper their corner outfielders before moving McCutchen to a corner in 2020?
Steve Adams
3:41
The Phillies want to improve their defense. Putting Cutch back in CF and lining up the worst defensive player in the game (Castellanos) right alongside him doesn't do that.

Full no-trade rights, doesn't want to leave Cincinnati.

Can the Mets live with Lagares in Center?
Steve Adams
3:43
There are far worse things to have than an elite defender in CF, even if he can't hit much. Put him in front of the pitcher and enjoy the glovework.

That said, I do think they'll make an upgrade. Just saying that if, for some reason, it doesn't come together, a healthy Lagares (for however long he can stay healthy -- a big question mark, I realize) still has some value.

What was Bloom/Neander thinking the offensive advantage would be in Diaz over Bauers?  His hard-hit rate somehow begins to translate to extra base hits?
Steve Adams
3:44
I was pretty puzzled by the deal, to be honest. Yandy has been an exit velocity darling for years, so they must believe they can get him to hit the ball in the air more and translate that velocity to more power (he puts the ball on the ground far too much right now, IIRC). Giving up Bauers and $5MM still surprised me.

odds Cards deal Martinez and Fowler and sign Bryce- 10% ... you got the over or under?
Steve Adams
3:44
All three of those? I'll happily take the under.

Anibal to the angels?
Steve Adams
3:46
Angels fans would roll their eyes, but I think whoever adds Anibal is going to get a solid value. He went cutter-crazy in 2018 and allowed the least hard contact in baseball. I'm buying the improvement, even if a bit of regression is still to be expected (which it is).

Surely no one is dumb enough to give Kimbrel 6 years, are they? 5 @ 75 do it?
Steve Adams
3:46
I cannot fathom him getting six. We picked something like 4/70, and that felt pretty high to us at the time. I don't see how he could pass on 5/75.

Why do you rule Whitley out of a JTR deal?
Steve Adams
3:47
Because I don't think the Astros are very open to trading him.
Andrew
3:47
I'm confused why STL hasn't been in on Brycer Harper.  While they showed a reluctance to long-term deals with Pujols and Scherzer in the past, they also were willing to pay big bucks for Stanton, Heyward, and Price.  Harper seems to be the perfect fit.
Steve Adams
3:48
Harper is considerably more expensive (or will be) than any of that trio -- Stanton included. But I do like the fit there, for sure. Still plenty of winter left, and I'm sure they've already at least poked around (or been pitched by Boras)

Do the Astros drop/dump Reddick?   Otherwise young guys are squeezed out, or traded, right?
Steve Adams
3:50
Houston doesn't seem to mind having too many guys at a certain position. Doubt they'll dump Reddick, and as I said before, it's easy enough to see them trading Tucker. But each of Brantley, Springer and Reddick (especially Brantley) has had some injury issues, so keeping Tucker on hand for depth and penciling him in for 300ish PAs in the Majors is also reasonable.

What are the odds San Francisco trades Bumgarner before the season starts?
Steve Adams
3:50
I don't think they'd get anywhere close to what Giants fans would expect for him. To me, they're better off hoping he looks better early in the season and marketing him this summer.

Framil Reyes for Gohara & Jenista, who says no?
Steve Adams
3:52
I wouldn't give up Gohara for Franmil

Name 5 legitimate untouchable prospects who have yet to make their debut
Steve Adams
3:53
I don't know how many teams truly decide a specific player is 100% off limits, but I'd say Vlad Jr., Tatis Jr., Eloy Jimenez, Royce Lewis and Forrest Whitley are all pretty darn close to that description.
Donald Blake
3:53
Do the Ms trade Haniger?
Steve Adams
3:54
I genuinely believe that Dipoto doesn't want to, but if the Braves or someone bowls him over with a 4- or 5-player haul headlined by MLB-ready talent, I have to think Seattle would strongly consider it.

Dear Santa,Dozier to Bucs

Adam Frazier had a pretty strong year last season, and PNC isn't especially friendly in the left-center power alley for RH hitters. I think there are better fits for him elsewhere and more pressing areas of need for Pittsburgh to address.
Rockies

Catching upgrade that are in the Rockies' pay range? Obviously Grandal would be amazing, but he'll be too expensive. alternatives?
