If Yelich is truly shopped, there'd be 20+ teams interested in him. The Mets' farm system isn't anywhere near good enough that I can imagine them making the best offer. I guess if they decided they were willing to part with Rosario as a centerpiece to the deal, they could potentially put together something competitive, but that doesn't seem realistic.

Any chance the M's make room for JDM?
Steve Adams
3:28
Dipoto's not going to shell out that type of cash. He's been pretty clear in his time with the Mariners that he views free agency purely as a supplement to fill out a roster rather than a means of adding core pieces.
I think the majority of the big-name signings in Anaheim during his GM tenure were a function of Arte Moreno. Certainly the Pujols and Hamilton deals were.

Who ends up splitting time with Wieters in DC?
Steve Adams
3:29
Guessing, but Alex Avila.

Are the White Sox nuts or smart? Can't figure out how to view the potential Machado trade.
Steve Adams
3:30
I don't think they have any interest in trading their very best prospects for a year of him. They'd probably love the chance to extend him this offseason, though.

3:30
What's your take on the Dbacks place in the Machado conversation?  Long shot or real contender in getting him?
Steve Adams
3:31
Long shot. Their farm system is aggressively bad, they're already tight in the payroll department, and they'd be selling off huge future value to take another shot at the NL Wild Card, since I don't think anyone expects them to be able to become a 100-win team capable of taking the division from LA

Who will end up closing for the Rockies?
Steve Adams
3:32
Right now, I'd bet on McGee. But I think there's still a very real chance they re-sign Holland as well.

3:33
Do I start the season in the minors or do I begin the year with the club?
Steve Adams
3:33
I don't see why they wouldn't hold him down 3-4 weeks and get the extra year of service. The rules make it easy enough to do so

Who says no: Cron + for Rusin and Wolters
Steve Adams
3:35
Why are the Rockies giving up anything of value for Cron? I don't think any team would surrender much to get him.
Even swapping Rusin on his own out for CJ probably makes the Rockies a worse team in '18

Twins management continue to say they are pursuing Darvish.  How realistic is it to think that he would sign with them?
Steve Adams
3:37
They have the money, the need and an abnormal lack of competition for top starters. I wrote about how it's a good fit at length six weeks ago, and I think most of that argument still holds (maybe even more so now that we know the Royals are for sure going for a rebuild):

Reed to Cardinals?
Steve Adams

I can see that, sure.

Most probable Lansing spot for JD  Martinez?
Steve Adams
3:37
Still think he ends up in Boston

Do you think the LAD will trade Grandal?
Steve Adams
3:38
I think they'll certainly be open to it. That'd be another great match for the Nationals as they look for someone to take playing time away from Wieters.

I signed for $65M to stay with KC...what do you think I would've got on the open market this year?
Steve Adams
3:40
A lot more. I've said I don't know that I can see Cobb breaking the five-year barrier given his lack of durability, and Duffy comes with similar concerns. However, he's both younger and better. I think he could've gotten the fifth year. He'd have made $8MM+ in his final year of arb, so he took something like 4/56 for his first four free-agent years. On the open market, I think he could've pulled in five years at $80-90MM total.
3:41
But, he obviously loves KC and was happy to take the life-changing money to stay where he was comfortable. Can't fault a guy for that.

Why on earth would the Cubs sign Jay Bruce?
Steve Adams
3:42
They shouldn't, and I haven't seen anywhere suggest it other than some speculation on a Cubs fan site or two.

Could Jay Bruce return to mets?
Steve Adams
3:42
That one I could see, yeah.

Do you have a favorite team or do you look at things more neutral now?
Steve Adams
3:45
I still follow and cheer for the Twins. I get why some journalists say they give up their fandom, so to speak, when they get into the industry. But I'm hardly in a traditional media position, and I don't really think pulling for a certain team has ever influenced me to write anything one way or the other. If the Twins do something I find to be stupid, I don't have much of an issue saying it makes little sense to me. I treat them like I would any other club and don't place extra focus on Minnesota while working for MLBTR or anything.

If arrieta does not get resigned by Chicago , where do you think he realistically goes? Same goes for Wade davis. Thanks!
Steve Adams
3:47
Twins or Brewers make sense as alternate landing spots for Arrieta to me. Phillies if they want to keep getting aggressive.

Davis... Rockies, Cardinals, Twins, Dodgers (at a certain price point), Phils all make varying degrees of sense. Red Sox if they miss out on JDM and pivot to strengthen the pitching staff rather than bolster the lineup. Speculative, but I can see it.

Have you listened yet to the Wheelhouse podcast with Jerry Dipoto?
Steve Adams
3:50
I've listened to a few eps and I think it's outstanding. I wish every GM would be so forthcoming in an outlet that is free for anyone to listen to. He offers rare insight into a lot of the Mariners' processes there, and he's also just a genuinely enjoyable guy to listen to. I've interviewed Dipoto a couple of times in the past and found him to be one of the nicer execs I've spoken to -- I think that personable nature translates well into his interviews on those podcasts. I'd recommend them to Mariners fans especially but really just to any fans of baseball who like to see behind the curtain into the GM's day-to-day. It's great stuff.

Full no-trade clause and has said on so many occasions that he doesn't want to leave
