Ha Seong Kim is a perfect fit for Seattle!
Steve Adams

I agree that he's a good fit there, but there aren't many teams where I'd say a player with Kim's upside and relatively minimal cost of acquisition ISN'T a good fit.

Do you think shortstops like Seager and Correa will eventually end up playing third base?
Steve Adams
3:01
Down the road they'll eventually move off of SS for younger, more athletic players most likely, Don't think either needs to immediately or anything, though.

Would 7/70m extension be enough to retain Devers  to avoid FA
Steve Adams
3:03
No way. He's already into arbitration, and even if you go with pretty timid arb projections -- say 3.5, 7 and 10.5 for his three years -- that's $21MM. You're asking him to give up four free-agent years for $49MM in that instance, which he'd never take.

Devers has the same level of service time that Freddie Freeman did when he signed for eight years and $135MM.
3:05
Devers isn't as good now as Freeman, but when Freddie signed he was a career .285/.358/.466 hitter with comparable counting stats. Freeman's platform year was better than any Devers has had, but not by an overwhelming amount, and that was in 2014.

Maybe Devers couldn't command the full freight of that Freeman deal, but I don't think he's settling for 7/70 either.

Hello what are the Twins doing with Jake?
Steve Adams
3:06
Odorizzi? I don't think he's their top priority, but if he's there in a month and a few other options have come off the board maybe they'll circle back.

Is Maikel Franco a starting third basemen?
Steve Adams
3:07
He's a passable one, but probably one that most contending clubs would look to improve upon.

Are the Royals one lefty bat away from competing in the AL Central?
Steve Adams
3:07
I do not think so, no.

Are you concerned for DET nation after 2020’s showcase?
Steve Adams
3:09
Nah, they still have a good looking farm system, and I'm not going to put tons of stock in Mize and Skubal struggling in a pandemic-shortened season where they weren't really able to pitch in a true competitive setting before being called to the Majors.

Between Mize, Skubal, Manning, Torkelson, Greene, etc. etc. -- the future looks pretty nice there. There's a real blank payroll slate moving forward, too, outside of the inexplicable Miggy extension.

What do I do next?
Steve Adams
3:10
Mariners probably aren't done bringing in relievers and still seem likely to add a starter.

I really like one year deals.... Do I break the piggybank for an uberdeal with Bauer in order to land him in Hotlanta and get us over the top?
Steve Adams
3:11
The Braves paid a combined $26MM to Smyly and Morton, and they have Soroka, Fried and Ian Anderson locked into spots already. Soroka needs some time early to rehab the Achilles, I'm sure, but I can't see the Braves adding another prominent starter. Maybe a swingman type (though they already have Tomlin) or a veteran on a minor league deal.

Do the Pirates do anything this offseason whether trade a vet for decent value, or make  unexpected signing?  How much faith should we have in Cherington?
Steve Adams
3:12
I think they'll shop Musgrove around pretty hard and probably add some small-scale rotation/bullpen/bench pieces whom they hope to flip at this year's trade deadline.
Doubt they give anyone anything more than a one-year contract.
Mark Melancon's neck
3:13
Do I still have enough left in the tank to get a good deal?  Or am I more of a last-minute add on?
Steve Adams
3:13
It's a real bad time to be a right-handed reliever. I think Melancon will be one of many relievers to take one-year deals that most people view as disappointing.

If the Giants were to upgrade one offensive position, which would it be? There is almost too much depth for me to make sense of it all
Steve Adams
3:14
Farhan Zaidi has already said his focus is pitching and that the Giants are only looking at "complementary" pieces on offense.

Most likely Red to actually get traded; Moose, Suarez, Gray, Castillo?   Suarez and Gray have to good of team deals to trade in my opinion and Castillo cost nothing right now.
Steve Adams
3:16
Moose's contract dwarfs anything he'd get in free agency. They'd be selling low on Suarez a little bit. Castillo is cheaper and as controllable as Gray, making him a much tougher player to get commensurate value for.

It's most plausible to me that Gray is the likeliest to reach that nexus of fair value coming back in a trade and short-term benefit from paring back the payroll.

Who says no ... Carlos Correa for Riley Greene?
Steve Adams
3:17
The Tigers aren't trading a top-shelf prospect for one year of Correa. Or for one year of anyone.

Yanks in on Darvish?
Steve Adams
3:18
Doubt it. They want to stay under the luxury tax and are pretty focused on LeMahieu.
They'll sort out the rotation once they know A) If they can keep DJ and B) What that costs.

Castillo for Duran, Balzowic(?), and Larnach?
Steve Adams
3:19
That's Luis Castillo for Twins prospects Jhoan Duran, Jordan Balazovic and Trevor Larnach; I have a hard time seeing the Twins giving up that much -- you're talking three top 100 guys there, all plausibly MLB-ready in 2021-22 -- but I think that would tempt the Reds, yes.

At this point, even if they can work things out with the stubborn players association, the league can’t institute the DH in the national league next year right? That would really cause some anger with the NL GMs.
Steve Adams
3:21
A lot of teams are still just expecting the DH to be implemented next year, even in spite of MLB's recent memo.

I don't know that it'd anger them any more than the delay in negotiations already has. It's not like teams have been signing guys or making moves predicated on the absence of a DH. You could maybe say the Braves wouldn't have non-tendered Duvall, but I still don't fully buy that.
