Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 2/14/23

Did I screw up my chances of making sure Ohtani remains an Angel by not selling the team?
Steve Adams
12:05
I don't think he's staying, personally, but if the Angels make the playoffs this year and offer him a boatload of money, it's possible.

Do you think there'll ever be a pitching staff full of pitchers that pitch max-effort 2-3 innings at a time, and each game will see them go through 3-4 pitchers?
Steve Adams
12:06
Yeah I think at some point we'll see a team abandon conventional "starting pitching" norms entirely.

Are the Giants done making moves this off-season? Same question for the Rangers
Steve Adams
12:07
Giants president Farhan Zaidi said last month that he was probably done with big league additions.

Rangers GM Chris Young said last week that he's still open to external additions in the OF.

How about the 6 man rotation? Pitching once a week might mean an xtra inning a start or 120 pitches instead of 100
Steve Adams

I don't think most teams would view a six-man rotation as a way to get more out of their starters on a per-start basis. The reason guys get pulled after 5-6 innings and around 100 pitches has more to do with the massive downturn in pitcher efficacy when facing a lineup for the third time than it does about preventing injuries. I'm sure limiting strain on the arm and managing workload plays a role, of course, but not to the same extent.

Michael Kopech or Cal Quantrill if you had to pick one for your fantasy team?
Steve Adams
12:11
I take Kopech for the K% upside, even if he missed bats at a surprisingly low rate in 2022. Quantrill will be a better source of innings probably and has a better defense behind him, but the lack of punchouts is limiting.
Alright I've got to wrap up for the week. Thanks, as always, for chatting -- and sorry for all the questions I can't get to in these. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve if you're so inclined and always happy to take more questions there.
