Dude is going to hit, a lot. I don't know if I can buy anyone who's 6'7" staying at shortstop long term, but even if he moves to right field, I think the bat will play.

What is your outlook for Ranger S. as 2022 SP?
Steve Adams
2:24
Obvious regression in terms of ERA for Suarez, especially if the Phillies don't improve their defense. He's not going to strand 86% of his baserunners again, run up a .250 BABIP (with that defense) and suppress homers this well.

Still think he can be a useful member of the rotation, though -- say 140-150 above-average innings for them?

Over/under 120 games played this season?
Steve Adams
2:25
I think they'll miss games but I'm still taking the over on that.
Chris Ellis
2:25
Am i sneaky good? Nobody knows who I am to be honest…
Steve Adams
2:27
He had a nice run with the O's late in the season, but he also went unclaimed when any team had a chance to pick him up. The K/BB profile, swinging-strike rate and quality of contact against him don't really support that he's any kind of breakout waiting to happen.

Someone will pick him up as rotation depth, but Ellis is a 29-year-old with a career ERA north of 6.00 in AAA. Hopefully he proves me wrong -- who doesn't like cheering for these types??? -- but the late showing with the O's looked fluky.

Any more major signings on the horizon for the Tigers or is the heavy lifting done?
Steve Adams
2:27
"Major" as in "Carlos Correa"? I doubt it.

"Major" as in "Tyler Anderson or Kwang Hyun Kim or Wily Peralta as a fifth starter"? Sure.
Bout to turn 70

Love you guys but baseball is pissing me off
Steve Adams
2:29
Hey, baseball is pissing us off too!
Khang Hyun Kim
2:29
Think there's any interest in a reunion with the Cards? He honestly pitched solidly for them
Steve Adams
2:30
There are five pretty clear starters ahead of him on the depth chart there. If you're Kim, wouldn't you prefer to sign somewhere that can give you a legitimate chance to rack up innings? St. Louis already has Wainwright, Flaherty, Hudson, Mikolas and Matz ... there are durability concerns with Mikolas, of course, but there are a lot of teams who'll have interest in Kim who don't have any real impediments to him making starts.
Bobby Higginson
2:30
With Jr the common answer, who has/had the sweetest swing in your opinion?
Steve Adams
2:31
I mean, it is indeed pretty hard to go against Griffey Jr.

In terms of pure hitting (but perhaps not as much power), also hard to go wrong with peak Joe Mauer -- though I'm born and raised in Minnesota, so probably a bit biased from seeing his swing so much more than so many other great hitters of the generation.
End The Lockout
2:32
Bold Take: The dark-horse Cy Young winners for both leagues are Sandy Alcantara and Nathan Eovaldi.
Steve Adams
2:32
I don't think either is an outlandish candidate to suggest
MoJoe JoJo
2:32
Would you rather hit the lottery tomorrow or sign a Bobby Bonilla type contract?
Steve Adams
2:33
If I win the lottery I can just take the payout in installments anyway!
Will
2:33
Will the flurry of free agent activity after the lockout ends lead to smaller deals (either years or dollars) for guys like Correa or Freddie?
Steve Adams
2:34
For the top-end guys, I don't think so. For a lot of the third- and fourth-tier veterans, yeah. We'll probably see some pretty surprising one-year bargains and minor league deals.

2:34
Who’s the next mega prospect with a chance to impact in the majors next year that we should keep our eyes on?
Steve Adams
2:34
Adley Rutschman, Bobby Witt Jr., Julio Rodriguez
John
2:35
Let’s Go Os! Let’s sign Correa!
Steve Adams
2:36
This was said as a joke, but I legitimately think they should. They obviously have the money, it's a unique opportunity to add a high-end talent, their best prospects are coming in 2022-23, and Correa's age still sets him up to be in his prime when those prospects establish themselves.
2:37
I'm sure they won't do it, but give the man $345MM or whatever he's seeking and start freaking trying again.
Wonderboy
2:38
How much for Cards to bring back Pujols as DH? 1 year/3m?
Steve Adams
2:39
I wouldn't go much beyond that. (I mean, I probably wouldn't even go to 3, but I get it from the Cardinals' vantage point, I guess)
CJL
2:39
Hypothetically, could the Jays get McMahon from the Rockies for McGuire and Pearson?
Steve Adams
2:43
I get the interest in McMahon given the Jays' 2B/3B needs, but his bat fell off enough after that start that I'm a little wary, especially with only two years of control remaining. I don't think the framework is awful, but there'd need to be other pieces built around it.

I think in a situation like that, you're going to have a pretty polarized field; some will say "Why trade McMahon for a broken pitching prospect" and others will ask why you'd trade such an upside arm for two years of a guy who was below-average, offensively, when weighting for his home park.

I tend to skew a little more toward the controllable arm, but it's a decent starting point for a conversation.

How would everyone feel about the Rock doing introductions for the World Series as well?
Steve Adams
2:43
The Rock should just narrate my day to day life, as far as I'm concerned.
Hmmm
2:44
Do you think Bart is a good enough replacement for Posey?
Steve Adams
2:45
He can be, but I'd be looking for a one-year stopgap to help ease him into the role. I know they have Casali, but it was a rough 2021 for him. I've thrown out the Willson Contreras fit here before, and I still quite like it.
Stan
2:45
which is most likely for the Guardians....trade for Blackmon, trade for Olson, or signing Schwarber?
Steve Adams
2:45
Can it be none of the above? I think they'll sign or trade for some lower-cost outfield help than that.
Big Poppa Pump
2:46
Which one of the Reds SP do you think gets moved, or multiple?
Steve Adams
2:46
Gray is the most expensive and thus the likeliest, to me.
