Arenado

After the 2022 season, I will average 28.8 M a year for the remaining 5 yrs on my contract. Will I strike a larger AAV if I opt out after 22?
Steve Adams
2:47
It's possible he could, with a big enough season, but it'd take a pretty disastrous year in St. Louis for Arenado to opt out. He's said multiple times, on record, that he doesn't plan to do so.

I think the Nats would make a lot of sense talking with the Rays in regards to Meadows for LF and DH, Yarbrough as a younger controllable starter, and Glasnow as the next TJ player under contract. However, I struggle seeing how they may line up trade wise. Anything you can think of that would make sense for the Nats to land one of these guys? Thanks.
Steve Adams
2:49
They're all shorter-term pieces than I see the Nats going for, though someone like Yarbrough would give them some needed innings to help fill out the rotation. The others just don't strike me as likely fits with the Nats stepping back a bit.

With Cubs prospects years away from the majors. The thought of even trying to sign Carlos Correa is ridiculous. It would be a waste of prime years of Correa
Steve Adams
2:51
I don't really think it's ridiculous for almost any team to sign a 27-year-old, star-caliber SS with several prime years remaining. I don't think the Cubs will do it, but good on them if they do. More teams should be trying to win in the here and now.

If I have Kimbrel to start the year, do I split save opportunities with him and Liam or strictly pitch him in the 8th inning?
Steve Adams
2:55
I don't expect the White Sox to keep him, but I think you just communicate to him what his role will be and go with it. The whole "eighth inning didn't suit him" thing feels more narrative than reality, to me.

I know Kimbrel has and would continue to say the lack of ninth-inning adrenaline impacted him, and I can't refute that. I'm not out there on that mound. But I still think that over a larger sample, with good communication on his role, the numbers would've evened out more. He was probably always going to regress from the Cubs level of performance, but he also shouldn't be expected to struggle as much as he did with the Sox.

Does Greinke make the HOF?
Steve Adams
2:56
He should.

Rodney! Great one.

Since Carlos Correa is a known cheater do you think some teams would rather pay someone honest instead?
Steve Adams
2:56
George Springer got $150MM last winter. If you're good, teams don't care.

Will Cleveland spend money on their offense and outfield?
Steve Adams
2:57
Their current payroll is Jose Ramirez, and that's it.
Yes -- they're going to spend some money. I don't think they're going to come out and push payroll up to $120MM, but they're going to acquire and/or sign a notable salary or two.

Is Mariners pitching improved enough to contend in AL WEST ?
Steve Adams
2:59
I expect the Mariners to add another starter, at least one more prominent bat and, yes, to contend for the division title.
Nootbaar
2:59
Am I designed hitter this season ?
Steve Adams
3:00
I don't think the Cardinals are going to sign a dedicated DH, so sure, Nootbaar will get some time there, as will Yepez and plenty of other guys they want to rotate through that spot

Who do the Brewers end up with for an impact bat? I don't think they have the firepower for an Olson trade, but I think Voit, Cruz or a different trade has merit.
Steve Adams
3:00
Yeah they make sense as a Luke Voit partner. They certainly have the "firepower" to acquire Olson.... it's just a matter of if they want to clear out the system and offer some big league-ready rotation help (Lauer, Houser, etc.)

YUP.
DL Hall
3:02
Do you think I will be up this year?
Steve Adams
3:03
Maybe as a late cameo, but he only pitched like 31 innings last year, so they're going to be careful with Hall's workload.

What upgrades does Cleveland need to make to compete in the division?
Steve Adams
3:07
It's all about the offense. I think Bieber, Civale, McKenzie, Plesac and Quantrill, with the depth they have behind that group, can compete. They desperately need to upgrade the lineup -- specifically the OF corners. That's also the most readily available place to find offensive help, though. Austin Meadows, Garrett Cooper, Jesse Winker ... look into those names. See about buying low on Dom Smith or JD Davis in a deal with the Mets.

Cleveland has such good pitching -- enough that I'd be totally willing to move a Plesac or Quantrill to add to the offense -- but their projected lineup is shockingly weak.

In your opinion based on highest ceiling, and cost to acquire, who out of Tapia, Santander, Meadows and Margot makes the most sense for the Rangers to pursue?
Steve Adams
3:09
Meadows. None of the other three do much for me. Margot is a nice player -- I love a good defensive-oriented CF -- but he's a free agent next winter. Santander's OBP needs work, and Tapia just isn't an especially good all-around offensive performer.

Do you believe STL trades Dejung and go with Sosa/Edman/Gorman as 2B/SS rotate
Steve Adams
3:09
I think DeJong is their Opening Day SS.
Their = the Cardinals

Unless the players agree to speed up the game nothing else matters. That means a pitch clock and staying in the batters box. Without that the game will die. This from a life long fan who loves baseball.
Steve Adams
3:12
I see this a lot but don't think it's rooted in reality. I know a lot of fans feel this way, but most of those fans continue to watch, and the sport's revenues continue to grow at enormous levels. Ongoing labor talks are a detriment to sport's popularity, but I don't subscribe to the notion that the sport is going to die if they can't shave 10-12 mins off the average game time (much as I would prefer them to shave that time off)

3:12
Do you watch other sports in a disconnected/“fan” way to counteract having to watch baseball analytically?
Steve Adams
3:13
I watch football pretty recreationally, although the more I watch it, the more I find myself wanting to learn more about certain defensive formations, more advanced components of the game, the salary structure, etc. -- and then I tell myself for the love of god don't do this with another sport.

Who would you rather have for 10 years: Bo Bichette or Wander Franco?
Steve Adams
3:13
Franco. No slight on Bichette, who's great in his own right.
