Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams 2/18/20

When will we see Mr. Steve Adams on an MLBTR YouTube video?
Steve Adams
3:55
I'd love to! My current living setup doesn't really allow for a cool studio and dedicated recording space/recording equipment. The fiancee and I are looking at houses and getting out of our current apartment setup, and if that happens I'll jump into the mix as well. (That's actually one of the things Tim and I were chatting about, which delayed the start of this chat!)

Did that answer to that Aubrey Huff question officially feature the first curse word in MLBTR chat history?
Steve Adams
3:56
Ha -- probably one of them.

Give me Judge in that one
More 2020 homers?

Who has a better chance to revive their career Kazmir or Bard?
Steve Adams
3:58
Kazmir had revitalized his career but got hurt and walked away for a bit. Bard has tried like 3-4 comebacks and had to walk away because he was walking like 50-60% of the hitters he faced.

Here is a poll should I be fired ?
Steve Adams
3:59
Based on fan reaction in recent weeks, I think we'd have the first ever unanimous results in an MLBTR poll.

Mazara could have a sneaky good year and be an All-Star in 2020?
Steve Adams
4:00
He's had four years to deliver on the hype that made him such a well-regarded prospect and hasn't even been a league-average bat. We've seen changes of scenery help in the past, but I'm not banking on that.
Aubrey Huff

Boo hoo...i made you mad. Get a helmet, gonna be a tough life if thats all it takes to make you whine.
Steve Adams
4:01
Funny -- "Huff Daddy" is whining more than anyone on Twitter right now.

Is the National league East the best division in MLB right now?
Steve Adams
4:02
I think it's the toughest, yeah. The NL Central is also closely bunched, but I think the general talent level in the East is superior.

4:03
is it possible Braves add a SP with Cole Hamels down?
Steve Adams
4:03
There's not much left to add,and they already have a deep reserve of upper-level arms on which to draw. Maybe they add another arm on a non-roster deal, but they have a good bit of depth as is
Hahn
4:05
I have money to spend at the trade deadline if I need it correct?
Steve Adams
4:05
(White Sox GM) Rick Hahn has more or less said as much already, yes.

Why dont the other owners expres there opinion on the Astros Scandal? Seems to me they got screwed over by the Astros and Crane.
Steve Adams
4:07
I'm curious as to why another owner hasn't stepped up and done so yet; that's the one group we haven't seen represented in condemning Houston's actions

What will it take for me to get Arrenado?
Steve Adams
4:07
The Rox aren't trading Arenado to the Dodgers

Red Sox taking on myers's salary would push them over LT, and therefore won't happen-- right?
Steve Adams
4:09
I'm sure the Padres would be eating some salary and the Sox would send some salary back.

Part of me cynically wonders if this is some calculated leak by the Boston brass to say "SEE! SEE! WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE LUXURY TAX!" Although the report did come out of San Diego, so who knows? I don't really get the appeal unless Myers is just a means of facilitating a "purchase" of one of San Diego's young arms.

When does Nate the Great Pearson make his MLB debut?
Steve Adams
4:09
Sometime this summer.

Can you explain the point of a signing bonus? Its paid the same year as the rest of the salary and it still counts against luxury tax, why is it a thing?
Steve Adams
4:11
Some signing bonuses are paid out in prorated portions over a period of time. They're also treated differently from an income tax standpoint.

In terms of their impact on the luxury tax, you're right though. Signing a three-year, $30MM deal with a $3MM signing bonus and annual salaries of $9MM is the same as just signing a three-year deal with a $10MM annual payout every year.

Do you play MLB The Show?
Steve Adams
4:12
Not since 2006 but hooooooooo boy did I play some '06 back in the day.

Mariners going with a lot of youngsters Evan White, Long, Lewis, Fraley with haniger out, any if them interest you this year?
Steve Adams
4:15
White and Lewis more so than Fraley and Long, but generally speaking they have a lot of young talent that'll be fun to watch. Justus Sheffield, for example. A full season of JP Crawford and a second go-around for Kikuchi will be interesting too.
BBFan

What is the importance to a baseball fan when you report when a player switches representation?  Why should I be interested?
Steve Adams
4:16
It's more for our industry readers than the general readership, admittedly. But we're read by agencies and teams alike, so we put the news out there on notable players.
Expansion
4:16
We all know they want to expand to 32 teams but cant we move teams that have no fan base or just not working first.  Move the Marlins and Rays to Portland and Nashville, expand to Mexico City and Las Vegas.
Steve Adams
4:16
Mexico City is at an even higher altitude than Denver
