"with or without a *new* deal," I should say.

Should the White Sox consider another SP, or let their youngsters vie for the early season starts and then reevaluate when the midseason trade market presents itself?
Steve Adams
3:16
They did add a veteran -- just a familiar one in Carlos Rodon. They could certainly add another on a non-roster deal, but they probably feel pretty good about Giolito/Keuchel/Lynn up top with Cease, Rodon, Kopech, Reynaldo and Lambert as 4/5 options.
Rangers signed reliever Spencer Patton to a minor league deal. He had a big few years over in Japan and will compete for a bullpen job.
(That's per a team announcement just now)

Am I crazy to think the Royals could be at least fighting for the 2nd Wild Card into late September? They're at least better than Cleveland and Detroit, right?
Steve Adams
3:17
Better than Detroit at the moment, but I wouldn't put them ahead of Cleveland with a Bieber, Civale, Plesac, McKenzie rotation and Jose Ramirez plus a bunch of solid bats surrounding him in the lineup
3:18
Both Detroit and KC have a bunch of MLB-ready talent, mostly on the pitching side, though. If they convert on some of those high-upside arms, it can change the composition of things in a hurry.

What is different between a 162 game season and a 154 game season?
Steve Adams
3:20
In this instance it was just pushing back the start date. I would imagine ownership will push that as a health-and-safety benefit for players, and there's some truth to that, but I'd wager their larger hope was to get expanded playoffs and also to get to a place where more fans can attend the games early in the season.

This is the best I've felt about the Brewers rotation in a long time. Am I crazy?
Steve Adams
3:21
Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff are V good. Lindblom still intrigues me. They have some passable back-end options and will probably sign a few more. I think it's a generally underrated group on a generally underrated team.

What do the A’s do at SS, LF and closer?
Steve Adams
3:21
They can just go Canha-Laureano-Piscotty in the OF.
3:22
I'd bet Diekman closes.
3:23
Shortstop ... suppose you're looking at Chad Pinder or Vimael Machin unless they bring Sogard back on the cheap or throw a couple million at Villar. Surprised the A's didn't offer Galvis the same $1.5MM that Baltimore gave him.
Cleveland is overlooked
3:24
Hernandez, Mercado, Ramirez, Reyes, Naylor, Rosario, geminez Perez ....Cleveland adds another bat like Santander in trade and the lineup isn’t nearly as bad as fans think...with that rotation they could still win the central...not saying favorites, just possible. Would Ahmed Rosario be a big enough center fo Santander trade?
Steve Adams
3:25
I can buy some of that -- I think Cesar Hernandez is underrated as well -- but Mercado flopped last year and Naylor has yet to do much of anything in the Majors. Gimenez has to prove he can hit in the big leagues. Roberto Perez's bat vanished last year.
It's an offense that still needs a lot to break right, and could still use help. Rosario wouldn't get Santander; he has less club control remaining than Santander. No reason for the Orioles to make that swap.

What are the chances Bauer goes to the dodgers ?
Steve Adams
3:27
There's no sense putting a firm number on something like this because it's all just guess work, but I think they'll eventually make him a compelling short-term offer (if they haven't already). I see them as a very viable fit and a plausible landing place.

I think I know the answer... but why does every article about Mickey Callaway show him in a Mets uniform?
Steve Adams
3:29
You think you know the answer? As in there's some kind of conspiracy theory against the Mets?

We use USA Today Sports Images as our photo provider, and they have like 6 pics of Mickey from the 2020 season -- all either with other people (Maddon, etc.) or just simple headshots from Opening Day whose dimensions don't render particularly well on our mobile app.
3:31
Moreover, I don't think the uniform he's wearing in a picture should really be the focus of anyone's attention considering the gross nature of the allegations at hand here.

Know this is probably a simpleton question but should the White Sox be content with Engel end Eaton in right.  Who do you think they might seriously considered out there.
Steve Adams
3:32
If they weren't content with that pairing they wouldn't have signed Eaton. That's the right field combo in 2021.

Nothing wrong with Anthony Bass but please tell me that wont be the team's marquee move of the offseason!!
Steve Adams
3:33
I could see the Marlins adding another OF or a low-cost reliever, but I wouldn't get your hopes up about any major additions.

What would a Travis D'arnaud extension look like and would both parties have interest in signing one?
Steve Adams
3:35
I imagine he'd look at the roughly $10MM per year James McCann just got and suggest he wants to be paid at a comparable rate. He's older and the Braves would want a shorter term than four years anyhow.

I don't know that Atlanta would rush to pay him close to market value though. Seems likelier they'd play out the year and try to keep him on a two-year deal early next offseason.

3:36
Any chance the Sox steal Cruz from the Twins? They *may* be the best team in the AL, but still seem like a significant underdog against either Dodgers or Padres and another bat would help, if it's on a one-year deal.
Steve Adams
3:36
Think he'd still want 2 years from the Sox, and they
Whoops
And they probably, like the Twins, prefer to keep it to one. They have Vaughn coming. More pitching depth seems like a more pressing need.

Would Ryu get 3 years at 20 per if he were a free agent this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:38
He was as good in '20 as he was in '19. I'd still be expecting him to get $20MM+ per year on a relatively long-term deal, yeah. Can't be certain given the revenue losses and lack of motivated spenders, but the top names have still gotten paid, generally speaking.

Who is the Brewers starting catcher Narvaez or Nottingham for most of 2021?
Steve Adams
3:38
Narvaez will get the chance to brush off last year

3:38
What free agent would be a good fit for the Mariners at DH?
Steve Adams
3:39
Nelson Cruz, but sounds like they won't spend like that. Same answer for Ozuna.

I imagine they'll just go mostly internal at DH rather than sign a dedicated option.
