Is Matz the odd man out in the Mets rotation with Vargas signing or is it Wheeler/whoever inevitably gets hurt?
Steve Adams
4:34
With that group you can't assume everyone's going to stay healthy. I think Matz is in over Wheeler, though, if both are healthy and there's really only one spot at the time.

Do you see McHugh being moved before opening day?  Trade deadline?
Steve Adams
4:36
Maybe before Opening Day if they get a legitimate offer that helps their 2018 club. But they can afford to pay him $5MM as a long man and depth piece, and it's a nice luxury to have.

Can never tell what options/needs will present themselves during the season, but once he's in there as the long man/spot starter, there's no reason to move him unless it addresses a weakness or an injury that arises elsewhere.

Think Arrieta ends up with the Phillies?
Steve Adams
4:37
I think with Hosmer, JDM, Tony Watson all off the board there will mysteriously begin to be a lot more talk about Jake Arrieta in the media, ha.

I doubt a ton has changed on the Phillies' front. They've been linked to Arrieta in a "if he'll take a shorter-term deal" capacity for months now.

Does the QO still stand for Moose if he wants to return to KC?
Steve Adams
4:38
Royals wouldn't have to give up a pick to sign their own player, no. Though they're effectively "forfeiting" the pick they'd stand to receive if he signed elsewhere.

How many FAs in MLBTR top 50 will not have a team on opening day? And who is the best pitcher and hitter to be unemployed?
Steve Adams
4:39
I think they'll all sign. Honestly, these guys want to play, and it's not like the last QO holdouts (Kendrys, Stephen Drew) thrived once they signed late in the year.

Morales came out just fine, contractually speaking, though, which some people don't realize. (Pro-rated $14MM with the Twins that paid him about $10MM.... $17MM over two from the Royals and then 33 over three from the Jays)
Carlos Gomez

What kind of deal should I be expecting? I've still got some value, right?
Steve Adams
4:40
Definitely, but at this point I'm wondering if he's stuck with a one-year deal. I thought he had a nice case for like 2/20 with the Giants or something earlier in the offseason but can't see him commanding that type of coin now, unless some contender loses an OF and has no real replacement.

Did CarGo or Lance Lynn have QO?
Steve Adams
4:41
CarGo no, Lynn yeah

Any chance of a 1-year deal to Oakland?
Steve Adams
4:41
They're publicly adamant about giving Bruce Maxwell a chance.

Crazy trade proposal- Chris Davis' ridiculous contract for greinke's ridiculous contract?   Do both sides say no?
Steve Adams
4:42
The Orioles would do that in a heartbeat. The D-backs would just be confused as to where exactly the O's think they're going to put Chris Davis when Paul Goldschmidt is entrenched at 1B.

Also, Greinke was good last season, whereas Davis has been ... not good.

Center field seems a real concern in K.C. none of the people listed can hit major league pitching. Orlando, Gore, Burns. All can run but hitting is suspect. Your thoughts?
Steve Adams
4:43
Agreed but not sure they care much if they're not contending. I think they're a fit for a Carlos Gomez, but they may just shrug and say "why bother spending that money?" Their payroll is still going to be north of $100MM as it is.

Keon Broxton to the Royals for a bag of balls?
Steve Adams
4:45
Broxton would make some sense there, sure. I would wager the Brewers may even get more than a bag of balls in return! Shocking!
Ok, I've got to call it for the week. Jason Martinez chats tomorrow evening at 6:30pm CT. Jeff Todd on Tuesday at 2pm CT. I'm on Twitter for more questions, @Adams_Steve.

Thank you everyone for attending, as always! Enjoy your week!
