Stanton reportedly gave the Marlins four teams he wanted to go to, one of which was the Yankees and none of which was the Red Sox.

He also cost $140MM more, at least, over twice as long a term. And while the Yankees didn't give up their best prospects to get him, Guzman is better than a lot of the prospects in Boston's system.

Jose Bautista to the as their every day DH?
Steve Adams
4:12
Khris Davis is already their everyday DH, and I don't think you'll find a sane person out there who expects Bautista to outproduce him this year.

Do I get a major league deal?
Steve Adams
4:13
Nah -- minor league deal and NRI somewhere
Baseball is the only real game

Ichiro is playing in US or Japan this year?
Steve Adams
4:13
Unfortunately my guess would be Japan

Why didn’t Halos grab Odo from Rays part of Cron trade?
Steve Adams
4:15
Rays do seem to like Jermaine Palacios, so the Angels probably just weren't willing to give up someone Tampa Bay's front office liked better. Again -- Odorizzi was far from great last season.

I wouldn't have minded the fit, though. Hard to get excited about the Angels' rotation, even with Ohtani on board, due to all the health issues. (Though Odorizzi is hardly an established innings eater)

What do you think of the limited mound visits?
Steve Adams
4:15
Generally fine with it but I'm sure it'll come with its share of annoying headaches as the league acclimates to the change

4:16
Will IMG camp stay open once season starts if there are still free agents unsigned?
Steve Adams
4:16
It doesn't sound like attendance at the IMG camp is great right now as it is. I can't imagine that'd be the case.
Sox Power

What do you think about the JD deal
Steve Adams
4:18
Logical add for the Sox at a good price; if JDM hits like JDM and can be a bit healthier for the next two seasons, then it's not outlandish to think he could opt out of the remaining 3/60. He'd only be looking to top what Encarnacion got, and he'd be doing so at a younger age. Could at the very least see three years at a higher AAV.

How serious is Mike Rizzo when he says A.J. Cole is the Nats' fifth starter?
Steve Adams
4:19
Think he's serious that right now, he considers Cole the favorite for it. But he didn't make some kind of grand proclamation that Cole is in the Opening Day rotation, that won't change, and he won't pursue other options.

He's the leading internal candidate, but as is typically the case with such things this time of year, that seems very subject to change.

Do I win a starting spot out of camp or will I start the season in AAA?
Steve Adams
4:20
Triple-A
Jake in SF

Who has the better season?  Matt Moore or Derek Holland?
Steve Adams
4:22
Moore. We don't even know if Holland is going to be with a big league team. He probably won't even be with the Giants now, as whatever base salary is on his minor league deal would probably still put them over the luxury tax.

Since Hosmer signed with San Diego, would the Royals be a place for LoMo? He's from Kansas City I read and might be a good pick up for them for a couple of years.
Steve Adams
4:22
Dayton Moore already strongly downplayed the possibility.
I don't think they're going to reinvest much of the money that was earmarked for Hosmer.

I hate to pencil Vargas in at DH after he hasn't grabbed ahold of any of the opportunities I've given him. Is there a better RH bat available that justifies the higher cost?
Steve Adams
4:25
I think they should just sign Logan Morrison, personally. He's hit lefties at an above-average rate over the past two offseasons, and they can grab Napoli or someone as a cheap RH bench bat if they really want a veteran with more of a track record.

Still have Grossman around as well, who didn't hit lefties much last year but has a better track record of doing so

Will the Astros sign a left fielder (like cargo) or are they happy giving Fisher a chance?
Steve Adams
4:27
They have Marwin Gonzalez in addition to Fisher... I don't know that I see CarGo as much more than a luxury for them if he's willing to take a cheap deal to bounce between DH and the OF on the reigning World Series champions

Does Napoli sign a minor league deal at this point?
Steve Adams
4:28
Certainly seems possible. Team can always have kind of a handshake agreement to make room for him down the line if they really like him but don't know how to determine the 40-man move just yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a minor league deal with a decent base -- something in the $2MM to $2.5MM range. And tons of incentives.

4:28
With the Royals now pretty much saying they are fully committed to the rebuild, should teams start calling on me again?
Steve Adams
4:29
I don't think teams should ever have stopped. The Brewers and Twins should be driving Dayton Moore insane.
Tim
4:29
Does Odorizzi trade mean Twins won't make a(nother) run at a trade for Archer?
Steve Adams
4:30
They'll be continuing their efforts there and on virtually every other front either until Opening Day or until they get another arm
JaysFan
4:31
With the Garcia signing, are the Jays finished?
Steve Adams
4:31
In the rotation, probably yeah. But there are still bullpen pieces they could add, some possible depth moves they could make. They have a lot of OFs and could explore the market on them this spring. Still need a better backup catcher.
Tom
4:32
Lagares or Nimmo for Opening Day CF?
Steve Adams
4:32
It'll be Lagares if he's healthy
