What most excites you about the Rockies so far? Are people underestimating Tapia, Dahl, and McMahon?
Steve Adams
3:31
Jon Gray seems like he's going to be really good. Him and Marquez is a nice combo to dream on. I think the Rockies are actually betting too heavily on a lot of their prospects. I'm utterly dumbfounded that they wouldn't op the Twins' offer to LoMo to make him their regular first baseman this year, for instance. They've been playing McMahon at three different positions; an injury will eventually pop up to give him a natural path to the roster, and the added depth at that cost, plus the upside of Morrison at Coors Field, seemed like a no-brainer.

3:32
Is it still possible we see Forrest Whitley in the majors this season?
Steve Adams
3:33
He's barely pitched in Double-A -- 14 innings. I doubt it with a 50-game suspension, especially since they'd be adding him to the 40-man a year earlier than they have to
Jeff Passan reporting Lincecum in "deep talks" with the Rangers, so a deal there is probably all but done.
3:34
Passan suggesting bullpen as an option and Lincecum competing for closer's role. That'd be fun to follow

If Brad Hand deals like he has the past 2 years. Does Preller move him at deadline for huge package, or keep him for the build?
Steve Adams
3:34
After signing the inexplicable extension (steal for the Padres), I have to imagine Hand is sticking around in San Diego for awhile.

Since Moustakas is unlikely to sign a contract that will net the royals a 1st round pick, should the royals try and sign him to a 3 year deal with an opt out after 1 year and flip him at the trade deadline?
Steve Adams
3:35
That contract structure is going to negate the majority of his trade value; a team acquiring him would be paying for two months in a best-case scenario or 2 years, 2 months at a semi-premium rate if he blows out his knee again in September or something.
3:36
I don't mind the idea of KC bringing him back on the cheap though. At this point I genuinely wonder if he's going to be able to even beat the QO he rejected. I always knew there was a very good chance our projection would come in high on Moustakas, but I am quite surprised to see his market stagnate to this levle.

More likely to happen for the Nationals signing Arrieta or trading for Realmuto?
Steve Adams
3:37
Realmuto -- though I don't know that either is especially likely.

3:37
How serious is Swarzak's injury?
Steve Adams
3:37
Anthony DiComo  @AnthonyDiComo 55s
It's actually a left calf injury for Mets reliever Anthony Swarzak. He'll have an MRI tomorrow, but is not concerned. "I'm walking. I'm standing here right now. I think I'm going to be OK."
Brewers
3:37
Do the Brewers make some big moves to really win the offseason? Cobb, walker, and Holland?
Steve Adams
3:38
One the three, sure I can see. All three isn't happening, though any of the bunch makes sense for them.
Dave
3:38
Do Indians need to add a guy like Carlos Gonzalez to get some certainty in their outfield?
Steve Adams
3:38
CarGo just had the worst season of his career as a regular. Are we sure he adds much certainty? I don't see the Indians spending at that level anyhow.

Mound visits etc.    What is stopping the manager from just coming out to the basepath, staying on the dugout side, and the discussion happens there? It isnt a "mound visit" , or whats stopping from the pitcher from coming to the catcher for the same purpose.  Loopholes?
Steve Adams
3:39
WIthout going back to the rules to scour them for verbiage, I believe both of those would constitute a mound visit. And if they're technically permissible, I'm sure the rules would be amended within a matter of days.

AL West Predictions?
Steve Adams
3:40
Astros > Angels > Mariners > A's > Rangers
Kyle Kappler
3:40
If healthy, is Homer Bailey an option at the trade deadline for contenders?
Steve Adams
3:41
Even if he's healthy and throwing well, the recent injury history and contract wouldn't give him much in the way of value. Reds would still need to eat cash.
Twinsfan
3:41
Who are the starting five for the twins with Santana out?
Steve Adams
3:42
Berrios, Odorizzi, Gibson, Mejia would probably get the majority of early starts, and the off-days mean they won't need a fifth option until mid-April. Hughes probably steps in at that point if he's remotely healthy. Maybe Tyler Duffey otherwise. Don't think you'll see Gonsalves or Romero early in the year
Ryan
3:43
Does Hanley get cut if he's not performing by the All Star break?
Steve Adams
3:43
If he's Sandoval-level bad, I suppose maybe, but I don't see them just outright cutting him anytime soon. Alex Cora has been talking about him as the regular 1B and his #3 hitter.
Kyle
3:44
Who has the better year in the NL Central? Pittsburgh or Cincinnati?
Steve Adams
3:44
I think people are vastly underselling the Pirates based on trading two big names who were more good than great last year.
(Pirates, to answer more directly)
Oaktree
3:45
Why are my O’s being stingy with the money if this might be the last year with the core group
Steve Adams
3:46
Peter Angelos has to be keenly aware that this could be the last real run with his core. If you're the owner of a team and know that most of your best players are set to walk after this season (plus Schoop after 2019), do you really want to hand out a bunch of long-term deals?
Then you're just stuck with a bunch of market-rate complementary players in 2019 (also known as the 2018 Royals)
3:47
(Sorry KC fans)
Chris
3:47
Why won’t the Yankees DFA Ellsbury? If their goal is to win the WS don’t tbeg want the best roster they can put together? They may have to eat that contract.
Steve Adams
3:47
He's overpriced but it's not like he's a useless asset.
Zeke
3:48
eziquiel carrera here, i'm as good as any 5th or most 4th OF'ers right?  Does someone pick up my 1.9 million contract or am I headed the minor league contract route now the jays have dumped me
