Chat With MLBTR's Steve Adams: 2/4/20
powered byJotCast
Jon
3:30
Where is the MLBTR headquarters?
Steve Adams
3:31
We're spread all over the country. Tim Dierkes, our owner, is based in the Chicago area, but we're all remote employees.
Jim
3:31
who are the best relievers left on the market?
Steve Adams
3:33
There's not much out there. I like Tony Cingrani and Arodys Vizcaino as bounceback types. Collin McHugh is at least interesting if he's healthy
Sadams
3:33
Will Scooter Gennet get an MLB deal?
Steve Adams
3:34
Minor League contract is likeliest. Tons of 2B options out there, and he was terrible with two teams in 2019 (and cut by both)

3:34
Any reason the Reds shouldn't hit up Washington and move Senzel to kick the tires on Kieboom?  Senzel fit at 3b for them and Kieboom an SS option that has higher upside than Galvis?
Steve Adams
3:35
Because the Reds love Nick Senzel, think he's a capable center fielder and presumably think he's better than Carter Kieboom. (I agree)
Brad
3:36
I'd love for the Cubs to take a flier on Taijuan Walker.  I know they're not going to spend much (obviously), but what's the minimum it would take to pick him up on a 1 or 2 year deal?  Even a remote possibility without a trade happening first?
Steve Adams
3:36
Walker isn't getting multiple years, and I can't imagine a one-year deal costing anything more than $3-4MM.
Mark
3:37
Do you think Adam Frazier is moved before spring training?
Steve Adams
3:37
Nope
Gregory Polanco
3:37
Do I play every day this year?  I'm finally healthy and Marte is gone.
Steve Adams
3:37
If he's healthy, yes, but that's not really a given with Polanco's track record.

Will the Tigers be thw worst team in MLB again this season
Steve Adams
3:38
That's going to be the Orioles. The Tigers at least spent some money to try to get a little better and to cultivate some trade chips.
Mr. Costello
3:38
Will Wacha beat out Matz or Porcello for the 5th starting spot for the Mets?
Steve Adams
3:39
I'd imagine he's penciled into a long relief/sixth starter role until someone else gets hurt.
3:40
Giants signing Wilmer Flores -- multiple years, per Jeff Passan, which is a bit surprising.
Skokiejoe
3:41
How about the Pirates for the worst team in Baseball
Steve Adams
3:43
The Pirates' roster is nowhere near as bad as the Orioles.
Cubbie
3:43
any rumors on eugenio suarez’ shoulder and how much of the season he may miss?
Steve Adams
3:43
Reds announced the recovery at 6-8 weeks -- I doubt he misses more than a few weeks of the season, barring any kind of setback

Starting Center fielder for my Bucs??
Steve Adams
3:44
A guess: Kevin Pillar

What do you believe the chances of the Dodgers signing Betts in free agency next winter whether they acquire him here or not?
Steve Adams
3:47
They'll have to break their usual approach of trying to lure high-end free agents on shorter-term, higher-AAV contracts. Betts is going to command something like 10+ years, and I don't know that the Dodgers are going to be comfortable with that. They're seemingly resetting their luxury penalty level, though, so they'd only be first-time offenders if they do add him.
3:48
For context, their offers to Harper were 4 years but in the $45MM annual range; I have to imagine they'd prefer something similar with Betts, but if they really are going to get him, it's going to take a longer pact.

3:49
Thanks for doing these chats. Outside of Jon Gray, who on earth is there to acquire for front of the rotation help? Will we even try?
Steve Adams
3:49
At this point, I imagine the Twins and other rotation-needy teams will be more apt to wait until the trade deadline. The market, as you suggested, doesn't have a lot to offer.
I love Gray as a trade candidate and think he could break out elsewhere, but the Rockies aren't moving him before Opening Day
3:50
Dick Monfort, their owner, just predicted a 94-win season over the weekend. That's next-level delusion like I have never seen, but it's also an indicator that Gray isn't going anywhere for now.
(Now when the Rockies are 10 games under .500 in July....)
Zach
3:51
What's the chance Houston doesn't win the AL west?  35-40%?
Steve Adams
3:51
I think they're much more than a 60-65% favorite in that division

3:52
Will Ex Indians Jason Kipnis find a team that will sign him or is his baseball career over ?
Steve Adams
3:52
I'm sure he'll latch on somewhere but probably on a minor league deal. The 2B market has been flooded with options for a few years now
Rio Ruiz
3:52
Am I due for a breakout season this year?
Steve Adams
3:53
I wouldn't expect so, no. I don't think he's going to be even an average regular.
Aaron Sanchez
3:53
Will Ben Cherington bring me in on a two year contract with most of the money on year 2?
