Doesn't seem like anyone is looking to pay top dollar for one at this point, but I'm sure Boras will try to dial it up to an ownership level and get the Nats, Royals or some other club to take that plunge.

Cardinals ownership has been pretty adamant, on the record no less, about avoiding the pitfalls of a huge contract for a free-agent reliever.

They made the seven-year offer to Hosmer with all of those guys (and Moss) still on board. I don't think they feel the need to clear payroll to accommodate him.

I was surprised they even ponied up the money to sign Frazier. I could see them signing Abad on the cheap (1/3ish) or maybe Watson if his price is in the 2/12 range. But I can't really see them going for Lynn, especially not after Alderson basically said on the record last week that the draft compensation tied to Moustakas was a prime factor in not wanting to sign him.

I've been saying I think they'll sign a 2B option. I thought Nunez would end up being the Mets' guy, but maybe he'll go back to the Bronx now.

I think at some point in the next couple of weeks they'll deem one lingering FA a value that's too good to pass up -- no good way of knowing until we see who signs ahead of them, but it seems they're opportunistically awaiting bargains more so than some other clubs that look to either be pursuing top-line guys or are just more or less done spending.

It's basically the 2017 roster plus Todd Frazier and Anthony Swarzak. I mean, good on them for trying to be competitive, but I don't think they've made themselves into contenders or anything unless they have a massive bounceback in the health department.

Someone will sign him for a couple million. Twins were looking at Napoli for a long time. Rays have been looking at cheap RH bats. Wouldn't be a bad DH flier for a rebuilding team (White Sox, Royals). He should have some options.
