Where is the logic in the Royals signing Hosmer, when your best prospect Pratto only plays 1st base?
Steve Adams
4:07
Frankly, I find it baffling that the Royals are trying this hard to re-sign Hosmer at a premium rate.

At this point the Orioles refuse to spend money on free agent pitching. Are they waiting out this free agent freeze and looking to add cheap? Also could they be doing the same for a Manny extension or free agent signing of him? Could they be trying to use what's happening as a way to sign these guys. Manny at 10 years 225 mil might be in their comfort zone. Thoughts?
Steve Adams
4:09
Machado at 10/225 is absolutely in their comfort zone. And he'd reject it in a heartbeat if they sent him the paperwork today.

I'm not sure why they're waiting so long on starters; maybe the guys they're pursuing are simply waiting for the dam to break to see if they can do better elsewhere... no one wants to take the Orioles' physical after all
Take the physical, fail for something minor and your chances of getting paid well elsewhere are pretty much shot

Cobb to cubs on 4/55 with opt out after 2 years.... Fair?
Steve Adams
4:10
I would never sign Cobb for that much, but I'd imagine his camp would take it, yeah.

Cobb at that price would shatter precedents for pitchers with his lack of durability:

If you find it baffling they're trying so hard to re-sign Hosmer, what other teams are even out there looking for a 1B? Why doesn't he just take the deal?
Steve Adams
4:11
He has 7-year offers from both KC and SD. I don't think either is wise, but as you may have gathered, I don't work for either club :)

Am I nuts to think I can plug Duggar into center, and still make run at the wild card?
Steve Adams
4:12
I don't see how the Giants can contend this season, and I think they're doing a really good job of setting unrealistic expectations among their fanbase by talking Duggar up as some sort of CF savior.
Morrow
4:13
Over or under 30 saves for me this year
Steve Adams
4:13
Under just because of health concerns, but if he avoids the DL, 30+ seems more than reasonable
Kenny
4:13
What are the Nationals waiting on for JT?
Steve Adams
4:13
The Marlins to stop asking for Victor Robles or Juan Soto
Bobby
4:14
Odds of Manny Machado taking an extension?
Steve Adams
4:14
Borderline nonexistent
Mike
4:14
Longoria or Frazier?  Should the Giants have just signed Frazier?
Steve Adams
4:14
I'd greatly prefer Frazier at 2/17 to Longo at 4/64 or whatever the Giants' exact tab on him is after dumping Span and getting some cash from the Rays
4:15
Of course, at the time Longo was traded, Frazier was probably seeking quite a bit more

Are the Astros done adding to their riches?
Steve Adams
4:15
Still need some left-handed 'pen help

What is the hold up on Lance Lynn?  Is he beyond 4/60-70M?  What is Duquette waiting for??
Steve Adams
4:16
He's not that good and wants to be paid like he is. $60-70MM for Lynn would be upwards of twice what I'd want to pay him.
Aaron
4:16
What's tony watson contract going to look like?
Steve Adams
4:16
Guessing 2/12 ish
Joey Meyer
4:16
At this point, should David Wright just announce his retirement?
Steve Adams
4:17
It's his decision how long he wants to continue attempting a comeback. No reason for him to call it quits until he's ready. I don't understand the constant urging from fans to "JUST RETIRE ALREADY." Are news updates on his health that difficult to ignore? I admire his tenacity and commitment, and I'm rooting like hell for him to make a comeback.

4:17
Do you think the medical records issue has anything to do with the lack of good trade offers for Brad Hand?
Steve Adams
4:18
Lack of trade more likely attributable to the fact that Hand was willing to take a "wtf" level low-ball extension only two years from free agency
You bet
4:18
how did Ian Kennedy get 70+ mil
Steve Adams
4:18
Scott Boras is good at his job

Why are the ballplayers such crybabies? Wade Davis has been paid. Cain has been paid. A bunch of relievers have been paid. JD Martinez has a 5/125 deal on the table - huge for a DH. Hosmer has two 9 figure deals on the table. Considering all these data points, the market seems quite reasonable, yes?
Steve Adams
4:19
You're only looking at the top end of the market.
4:20
There's a lot more to free agency than the top top guys, and when revenues are at an all-time high, why shouldn't the players get paid more?

The better question is why are fans so quick to side with billionaire owners over millionaire players?

Have you been to PNC? By far the best stadium I've been to, but I have not been to AT&T yet. Wondering how the two compare if you've been to both.
Steve Adams
4:20
I have not yet! I've still only been to half the parks in MLB. PNC is at or near the top of my list of stadiums I want to see next.
4:21
I try to make it to at least one new stadium per season, but that doesn't always happen.
Devil's advocate
4:21
If the top guys were more reasonable there would be more time for bottom level guys to work out their markets
Steve Adams
4:22
In some instances, sure. But it's a fallacy that the very top-tier free agents hold up the entire remainder of the market, and virtually every agent I've spoken to this offseason has said it's bizarre how teams are universally valuing their guys at near-identical levels and showing little to no willingness to even approach what would've been reasonable expectations for mid-range guys in years past.
