Based on Jeff's article he just posted (https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/03/mark-shapiro-discusses-blue-jay...), given that the Jays do have more money to spend, why not make a 3-year $45M offer to Keuchel?
Steve Adams
3:49
First, we don't know that Keuchel would take that.
Second, the Jays are in a mini-rebuild/transition mode and would lose a draft pick and international money by signing Keuchel, who rejected a qualifying offer. I think that's a pretty big impediment for them.

I’m out of options.  Do I make the Mets 25 man?
Steve Adams
3:51
I'm expecting him to, yes.
Astros
3:51
We are not the Nationals and going to burn our bullets in the regular season. Whitley will have his innings managed so that he can pitch in the postseason (even a starting role).
Steve Adams
3:52
It's certainly possible that they minimize his workload early on, but he's yet to even pitch in Triple-A, so my expectation regarding him is that they'll want to develop him with a normal starter's role and get him into that routine. I've not seen Jeff Luhnow or anyone with the Astros discuss his planned workload for the season to this point.

If Jon Gray figures it out, how good could the Roxs rotation be?
Steve Adams
3:54
Marquez-Gray-Freeland would be a heck of a 1-2-3 if Gray can finally stop teasing everyone. I'm not sure anyone should bank on that, since he's been this maddeningly inconsistent guy for a couple of years now despite obvious raw talent and potential. But, if you're a Rox fan, that's a fun one to dream on

Is Moustakas at 2nd base going to be Wil Myers at 3rd 2.0?
Steve Adams
3:55
Myers was a catcher-turned-OF-turned-1B-turned-OF-turned-3B. I never expected him to take well to the hot corner. Moustakas was a shortstop as an amateur and has been a 3B since; I think he can adapt to second base reasonably well. He's not suddenly going to be Ian Kinsler with the glove or anything, but he doesn't need to be anything more than passable there given his offensive abilities.

Closer by committee?   Or do we finally make a move for a proven closer?
Steve Adams
3:56
Dombrowski has said over and over that he doesn't expect to add anyone. I don't think it'll be committee -- I think one of Barnes or Brasier will be given the role and run with it. If they're struggling come late May/early June, I would expect Boston to be aggressive in pursuing trades.

What are they options if Chris Davis struggles again?
Steve Adams
3:56
At a certain point they have to just cut him loose. I don't think they're necessarily close to that breaking point just yet, but it'll eventually become a consideration if he doesn't rebound at all from his 2018 catastrophe.

Reds will win more games than the Brewers. You heard it here first!

Any moves the Dodgers can make to help them now or at the trade deadline?

Sign Kimbrel.

Jamison Taillon in the Cy Young picture?
Steve Adams

Yeah I think he can be in that mix as well.

Higher upside this year, Hoskins or Bellinger?
Steve Adams
3:59
I like them both but I think Bellinger is pretty clearly the higher-upside all-around player -- especially considering his defensive versatility.
4:00
Hoskins couldn't even fake it in LF for a year; Bellinger put up +6 Defensive Runs Saved in center in 2018.

True story: in 3rd grade, there was a "backwards day" where we did all kinds of dumb things, one of which was supposed to be to write our names backwards (e.g. Adams Steve)
I wrote mine as "Smada Evets" and was called "Smada" by a not insignificant number of people for years after, ha
Back to baseball... haha

Don't you get a little tired of a guy bargaining for $330mil complaining about how he's gonna support his family, like Harper recently did?  He has made about $40 mil in the previous two years.  He can certainly feed his family on that until the deferred money kicks in.
Steve Adams
4:04
I don't think Harper ever went full Latrell Spreewell and asked how he could afford to feed his family on that sum, and I have zero problem with players trying to get their piece of the game's off-the-charts revenues.

All of us are rich relative to someone, somewhere in the world, and we all want to feel that our skills are valued at an appropriate level. If anything, I get tired of people whining that players are greedy and overpaid and acting like they should just take whatever they can get and be happy they get to play a game.

If ever there was a take that lacked context, nuance, etc. -- that's it.

Is Luis Urias really the Padres starting shortstop?
Steve Adams

Until Tatis overtakes him, I would imagine so. At that point he moves to 2B

What are the chances that the dbacks will compete for a WC spot?
Steve Adams
4:06
I don't see it. They were barely a .500 team in '18 and lost their best hitter, best starter and best outfielder without doing much to replace any of them.

I think the Goldschmidt trade was better for them than a lot of others to whom I've spoken, but I'm not buying them as even fringe contenders in 2019.

Why don’t I bring Bart up now to back up Posey and get that wisdom? Joey is kicking ST booty!
Steve Adams
4:07
Joey Bart may have been the #2 pick in last year's draft, but he's never played above low-A and the org isn't going to bring him up based on like 20 spring PAs
