Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 3/12/24
powered byJotCast
Taj Bradley (again)
1:56
Thankfully not an arm injury, just some muscle tightness in my chest (just in case you were worried about me)
Steve Adams
1:56
Yeah -- pectoral tightness for Bradley. I wouldn't say "just", since he's heading for an MRI, but better this than "he felt something pop in his elbow during his warmup and is headed in for an MRI"

Do you think the players would accept a salary cap and floor in exchange for 5 service years to free agency? 2 minimum, 3 arb?
Steve Adams
1:57
Nope
Anything with a cap is a nonstarter for the MLBPA, I'm sure.
#FireFarhan
1:57
Is Farhan really going to waste his first halfway good off-season, by not shoring up the rotation? At this point the remaining free agent SP will be way behind schedule and you won't get a full year out of them.
Steve Adams
1:58
I would contend that the complete aversion to addressing the rotation means it was not a halfway good offseason.

Assuming they continue to be unsigned, at what point do we expect Snell / Montgomery to start missing regular season time?  Are we already there?
Steve Adams
1:59
Probably? I don't know where they're at in terms of building pitch count right now but it wouldn't surprise me if either needed to miss a start or two. Could still be on the cusp though.

Chances Wood and/or Crews make the opening day roster for the Nats?
Steve Adams
1:59
Can't see it.
Cease Yankees
1:59
Don’t you think trading for Cease would be a risky move for the Yankees? They’ve already given up a bunch of talent for Soto and Verdugo, just seems silly they’d be willing to further deplete the system for an all or nothing year.
Steve Adams
2:01
I don't really feel like they gave up a ton for either player. Drew Thorpe is the one premium prospect they surrendered in the Soto deal. Otherwise it was mostly depth arms. Michael King was honestly a strange player for the Padres to target, in my view. He's only controllable another two years and has never made more than 9 starts in a big league season. It's easy to buy into him don't get me wrong, but it just feels like we're not far from him being on the market as well. Maybe that was the point ... build up King, trade him for even more prospects at the deadline, but there's risk in that approach as well.
Oriole
2:01
What would Lorenzo cost the orioles
Steve Adams
2:02
Can't imagine Lorenzen would turn down like, 2/20
Guest
2:03
If the braves cant extend fried, do they trade him before trade deadline
Steve Adams
2:04
Nah, they'll just ride out the season, make the QO and take the pick.
They're a win-now team. They're not trading their ace (or co-ace, I suppose)
Ryan Red Leg
2:04
Wrist do you think of Frankie Montas?  His velocity has been good and he's looked healthy.
Steve Adams
2:04
Montas was my favorite upside play on the SP market this winter. Like the deal for the Reds.
MRI Machine
2:05
Any reason why we don't have Cole's MRI results yet? We have Cabrera's already
Steve Adams
2:05
Yankees said they're going to get multiple opinions on Cole's MRI. Marlins seemingly just announced after their doctors looked at it. Didn't get third-party opinions.

It's been a few days, but any thoughts on the Mariners signing Stanek?
Steve Adams
2:06
Stanek's talented and there's not many guys you could sign for 1/4 who I'd say "Oh man what a terrible deal"
Good pickup for them at a nice price point.

Cleveland's best right handed hitter is... Ramon Laureno? (Okay, JRam bats from both sides of the plate). But still, couldn't this team use JD Davis? Current occupant of the non-Josh Naylor half of the 1B/DH spot in the lineup is Deyvsion De Los Santos, who's 20 y/o and never played above AA.
Steve Adams
2:09
Yes Cleveland could absolutely use JDD. They could also use JDM, Pham, Duvall or just about any RH bat that they've decided to pass on to this point. Their offense is not good. I have a hard time believing they have more money to spend, because if they did, it seems like malpractice to run with this group.

(Side note: I get loving the glove, but if money IS this tight, spending $4MM on Austin Hedges is a real weird look)
2:10
Kevin Gausman and Pablo Lopez are probably the most popular answers, but Tarik Skubal's the more fun pick
Alabama Worley
2:10
If Cole is out, who leads the AL in K's in 2024?
Steve Adams
2:10
Hmm
Question didn't publish for some reason
2:11
Obviously the Gaus/Lopez/Skubal was the reply to that Alabama Worley question on Cole. Not sure why I had to click like four time to publish it.

Heading down to the park for some spring training.  Should the A's be happy what's being shown this spring?  Gelof is legit.  Noda and Rooker had okay years.  We don't totally suck, right?  Right?
Steve Adams
2:13
They'll be better than last year anyway. Blackburn, Wood, Stripling, Sears are all at least MLB-caliber SP. Gelof looks great. You can hope for steps forward from some combo of Langeliers, Ruiz, Soderstrom, etc., and a full year of Mason Miller (health permitting) as the closer could be fun.
They won't be "good," but it's a more fun group than last year.

You're up against Jay Jaffe right now.  Who has more viewers?
Steve Adams
2:16
Probably Jay? I'd rather talk to him than myself :) Jay's great -- met him a couple times at the winter meetings, he's nothing but nice, and love his work
2:17
Ok, I stuck around a bit longer than usual since we had a pretty big group today but I've got to get rolling. Thanks for participating, as always!
