Is Dallas Keuchel headed for a regression in ERA and WHIP this year?
Steve Adams
2:32
Yeah -- career-low K%, GB%, HR/FB% and BABIP last year plus a career-high strand rate.
Aledmys Diaz to CIN
2:33
Realistic?
Steve Adams
2:34
Would give the Astros some breathing room with regard to the luxury tax, which they'd appreciate, so sure. But Diaz can't really play shortstop well either.
John
2:34
ruiz and Franco platoon?
Steve Adams
2:35
Ruiz has worse career numbers against righties than he does lefties. I thought they'd DFA him when they signed Franco, but the Harvey injury allows them to keep Ruiz as a depth piece at least.

2:36
mets can use another starter for depth if they can get someone on a minors deal with a june opt out
Steve Adams
2:36
They already have pretty good depth, but sure if they could get like ... Zack Godley to take a minors deal with an early-ish opt out, the depth can't hurt.

Why haven't the cardinals signed rick porcello?
Steve Adams
2:39
Yeah that seems like a pretty easy fit with Mikolas out for the beginning of the year now, Hudson out due to TJ, perennial Martinez uncertainty, etc.

I would guess they don't think he's a clear upgrade over in-house guys like Gant, Ponce de Leon, etc. and/or that he's still looking for some decent money. They might be right on the first half, but if he's willing to take $4-5MM, I'd make that move to bolster the depth. As I said before, he's better than he looked with the Mets.
Going from the Mets' 2020 defense to the Cardinals' 2021 defense would make any pitcher look a hell of a lot better, too.

Isn’t there a fit for me anywhere? Cubs maybe?
Steve Adams
2:41
I assume this in reference to David Robertson?

I expect he'll sign somewhere by the end of camp. Might be a matter of him hoping for a guaranteed 40-man spot and some clubs being a little wary of that coming off the injury at his age. Not that 35 going on 36 is "old" -- but it's a little older than most TJ rehab guys.

Would the dodgers trade Urias and Ruiz for Josh Hader ?
Steve Adams
2:42
I don't think so
Curious
2:43
What % of prospects received in trades actually perform as an average or better MLB player?
Steve Adams
2:43
I don't have an actual number on this, but the answer is "very few."

Does Trevor Rogers make the Marlins rotation to start the season?
Steve Adams
2:46
Even if he doesn't, he'll get a decent number of starts this year. I'd think it could come down to him, Gio, Neidert early in the year. The Marlins themselves probably don't know who their fifth is yet, though

Matt Carpenter is 1 for 20 with 8 K's. How concerned should we be?
Steve Adams
2:47
I wouldn't be concerned with his Spring Training numbers. I would be concerned with his general decline since 2019, though.

2:48
Hey Steve, can you explain why the Angels sending down Marsh today means they don't burn an option year?
Steve Adams
2:48
Optioning Marsh does count as an option year. He's on the 40-man roster.

2:49
Will 8 years for $200 million for Seager be enough to keep him in Dodger blue?
Steve Adams
2:49
Nope
Rollie's Mustache
2:49
Re: Marsh. Then why does the MLBTR article earlier today say: "The Angels also optioned outfielder Brandon Marsh to the minors. By doing so today, they do not have to burn one of Marsh’s option years"
Steve Adams
2:50
I didn't see that; I assume it's some kind of typo or error -- but I will update that. Unless I'm having some kind of complete mental lapse here on a rule unique to the 2021 season, it does count as an option year. Thanks for pointing that out.
Humm baby
2:51
Sometimes options limits are described in years, and other times the limits are described as individual options. Can you clarify
Steve Adams
2:52
Once selected to the Major League (40-man) roster, players can be optioned to the minors for three years without first needing to go through waivers. Then people refer to "options" individually, they're referring to a whole option year. A player can be optioned like 12 times in a season, and it'd only use one of his three options.
Joe Fan
2:53
Who is most likely to be traded this year: Madison Bumgarner, Max Scherzer, Zach Plesac or Luis Castillo?
Steve Adams
2:54
None of the above? But Castillo seems at least plausible, whereas the others don't really.

2:55
Do you see the Tigers signing one of the remaining FAs?
Steve Adams
2:56
Avila has said multiple times this spring they remain open to things, but I don't see why the Tigers, specifically, are any more plausible than most other clubs. They're more likely than a team like the Twins, who've pretty much said "We're done adding players from outside camp," but beyond that, they seem as likely as anyone else.

2:57
Does Carlos Correa get $200 million in his next contract?
Steve Adams
2:57
If he's healthy and productive in 2021, I expect he will
Nationalfactor
2:57
Do you think Schwarber will have a bounce back year batting behind Soto in Washington? Can he realistically hit 35-40 home runs this season?
Steve Adams
2:59
I think he'll bounce back because he hits the ball too hard, too consistently for a .219 BABIP to stick over a full season. He absolutely has 35-40 HR power, but that's a best-case scenario. You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you *expect* him to hit 37 bombs

Anything decided yet on how the 2020 season affected players’ remaining minor league options?
