Why did pitchers only as far back as the 70s and 80s have no issues throwing CGs but now it's almost unheard of? I don't get that, maybe these guys are getting their arms rung out from stopping and starting so much? I don't know, just doesn't make sense to me?
Steve Adams
3:02
Pitchers throw harder now. We also tend to remember the guys with longevity without remembering the high volume of pretty short and unspectacular careers some of those 1970s pitchers had due to overuse.
Even some of the names we do remember well, look back at their careers. Denny McLain had like 5 or 6 healthy seasons.

JD or a possible gold glover Guillorme at third,Whatta you think?
Steve Adams
3:03
Davis, easily.
Brodie Jr.
3:03
How many healthy season did Nolan Ryan have?
Steve Adams
3:04
More than five or six! But pointing to the greatest pitcher of all-time -- or one of them, at the very least -- and asking why everyone can't be as durable as him is silly.
HELP!

What is your best Guess on the status of Kirby Yates and Zac Gallen? -P. McCartney
Steve Adams
3:06
I've gotten a bunch of questions asking what I think will come of the injuries to Yates, Gallen and Lamet throughout the chat. I have no idea, and it's irresponsible to speculate and say something like "Gallen might be headed for TJ" as an outsider. The D-backs haven't made an announcement, nor have they said anything to anyone and given their consent to report it. Same for Gallen and his agents. We're all just sitting around waiting for more news.

Why do you waste time in your chats answering stupid questions like favorite Girl Scout cookie?
Steve Adams
3:06
Yeah that 3 seconds was pretty brutal.

Joe Mauer in the HOF some day?
Steve Adams
3:08
I think he should be, as his peak was one of the clear best all-around performances any catcher has ever put together. I think some voters will call the peak too short, though, and they can rightly point out that he wasn't anything special over his final years (although he did turn himself into a very good defender at first base and have a couple of pretty decent years at the plate)

Snell over/under 15 wins & 180 innings?
Steve Adams
3:09
Snell has only reached 180 innings once before -- when he threw 180 2/3 innings in his 2018 Cy Young year.
3:11
I wouldn't project him to get there in a normal season, and I definitely wouldn't think so this year of all years.
Wins -- I just don't bother projecting or thinking about. They're a team stat that is more determined by a manger's tendencies, bullpen support and lineup construction than the starter himself.

Does Brett de Geus make the Rangers? Dodger fans want him back.
Steve Adams
3:12
He should at this point. He's had a good spring, and the Rangers have had 3-4 injuries in the 'pen already. If you're not going to carry a guy after a strong showing when half your bullpen goes down, why select him? I think he sticks.
Tomahawks

Are we promoting Drew Waters by mid-season if Inciarte blows it?
Steve Adams
3:14
I think a Waters promotion for the Braves is more likely if one of Acuna/Pache/Ozuna gets hurt. They'll want him getting everyday at-bats, and there's no path to that right now. Come 2022, he's probably the guy in left field, with Ozuna shifting to DH when it comes to the NL

Am I going to even have the opportunity to select Jack Leiter? God i hope so...
Steve Adams
3:15
I doubt Leiter drops to No. 4 for the Red Sox, but lots can change. A few guys pop up... one of the teams ahead of them cuts a deal to allow them to spend further down the chain. It's not impossible, but he sure seems like a solid bet to go top three right now.

I know the Rays were a popular pick to win the AL East, or at least make the playoffs via WC. Any reason to be alarmed about their ST record or is it just a case of SSS?
Steve Adams
3:18
I couldn't even tell you a team's Spring Training record right now. I know the Royals have been good. I don't even look at spring win-loss records.

I would look good in Angel red. What’s the hold up?
Steve Adams
3:18
He'd look good in like 20 teams' bullpens. No one has offered him what he's asking, apparently.

Alrighty, I've got to wrap up for the week. I've got a chat with our Front Office subscribers on Friday. Mark will chat over the weekend. I think Connor has a chat for the main site lined up Thursday. I'm also on Twitter @Adams_Steve.
