Will the Giants release Melancon?
Steve Adams
5:04
Melancon pitched well last year when he was healthy and is owed like $28MM more. No.

Seems teams pay the price for sending down prospects who belong in MLB. Robles elbow last year, Senzel's ankle this year. Seems to be a needless risk. Right?
Steve Adams
5:06
Robles had like 100 ABs above A-ball when the Nats sent him down. I wouldn't call that service related -- especially since the Nats have been willing to call up a guy like Soto when he's 19 at a time when other orgs like the Jays, Cubs and White Sox have held down more advanced players for a full year just to get that service.
You can believe in karma or whatever you like, I suppose, but it sure seemed to work out OK for the Braves with Acuna.

Next Red Sox extension by Thursday: Xander Bogaerts?
Steve Adams
5:07
I don't think Xander is signing.
I don't think any of the Red Sox' other players are signing, for that matter.

Hi Steve, how long do you see Edwin Encarnation to stay in Seattle?
Steve Adams
5:08
If you were going to set the cutoff on him for July 1, I'd say sooner rather than later. Maybe even sooner than mid-June. As long as he's healthy, they'll be pitching him to any AL club with a semblance of a 1B/DH need.

Would Judge or Betts get more if extended today?
Steve Adams
5:09
Betts. Better player and, more importantly, closer to free agency. Way closer.

I don't think any of the Red Sox' other players are signing, for that matter.
****EVER?****
Steve Adams
5:11
Ha, no -- just the remaining group that's left. I expect that at some point, in the continued years of the Red Sox' existence, they will extend another player.

People don't think the Phillies rotation can hold up all year. Who are some realistic July targets for the rotation for them?
Steve Adams
5:13
Robbie Ray, Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez, Clay Buchholz (again!), Madison Bumgarner, Drew Smyly, Lance Lynn, Shelby Miller, Mike Minor

Florial for Kluber or Bauer... who says no?
Steve Adams
5:13
Not getting either for just Florial straight up
Jameson Taillon
5:14
I'm going to blow up this year. #cyyoungsleeper
Steve Adams
5:14
I don't think most people would consider him a huge sleeper. If I were going to make a list of my 10-15 leading candidates, I'd probably have Taillon on there somewhere.
Mr. Counsell
5:15
So who is my closer at the start of the season?
Steve Adams
5:16
I'd imagine Hader's going to get plenty of looks, and maybe some others based largely on matchups if the Brewers have already burned Hader. (Barnes vs. RHBs, Claudio vs. LHBs)

Is the Nats bullpen a recipe for disaster?
Steve Adams
5:18
Doolittle is about as good as it gets, and the Rosenthal gamble was a worthwhile one. I like Barraclough's arm, and Miller's 2018 was intriguing at least. I wouldn't call it a great group, but recipe for disaster is harsh.

Do we know how much Van Wagenen was actually involved in deGrom's negotiations? I thought he was expected to recuse himself in that case.
Steve Adams
5:20
Apparently he only had to recuse himself from arb talks, as there are multiple reports out there right now indicating that a face-to-face meeting with BVW, Wilpon and deGrom's camp is what pushed things over the edge

Likelihood that Dexter Fowler flops and we see Tyler O’Neill in right by the end of April?
Steve Adams
5:21
I think Fowler will have a decent bounceback, and even if that doesn't play out, I don't think O'Neill is overtaking him regularly after only a month (unless Fowler is injured)
Dave
5:21
What would be more surprising...Orioles get the 2nd wild card or Red Sox only win 70 games
Steve Adams
5:22
Orioles. Easily.
Red Sox have bullpen questions, and if they lost Sale and Mookie to season-ending injuries or something, you could see some weird collapse happening.
5:23
There's nothing that could propel the Orioles to a postseason spot with this roster.

Taking out any personal bias, does Tim Tebow ever suit up for the Mets? AAA is gonna be tough.......
Steve Adams
5:23
He struck out in 35% of his plate appearances in Double-.A
Alvaro
5:24
I trust barnes and brasier but everybody has been hit like a sandbag in spring training,  should the redsox be calling kimbrel right now?
Steve Adams
5:25
Let's say Kimbrel was willing to go back to the Sox for the exact $17.9MM he rejected with the QO (which he surely isn't)
That'd mean the Sox pay a $13,425,000 luxury tax on him.
In short, they're paying 75% taxes on any dollar they spend moving forward.
Can't see it happening
