What can the Giants get for JD Davis?  Are there any blocked young shortstops available?
Steve Adams
1:43
They're not getting a starting-caliber SS for one year of J.D. Davis at $7MM.

Steve, do you think the Twins keep DeSclafani in the rotation or move him to the bullpen in favor of a different starter (internal or new add, like Lorenzen/Clevinger/other)?
Steve Adams
1:45
I think he'll open the season as the fifth starter, health permitting, and both he and Louie Varland will get plenty of starts as injuries pop up. Simeon Woods Richardson, Brent Headrick and David Festa will probably all be in that group, too. And if midseason rolls  around and there's a need, the Twins generally are active on the summer trade market under the current FO regime.

Cueto will play in the KBO before he accepts a minor league deal.
Steve Adams
1:45
Cueto signed a minor league deal two years ago.

just looked up madbum on b-ref cuz he was mentioned earlier. Obv we all know his playoff pedigree, but i think i forgot the level. Career 36 IP in the world series. 1 run allowed. What in the actual heck...

Trevor Bauer is done in MLB, isn't he?
Steve Adams
1:49
He has openly broadcast that he'd play for the minimum. He still isn't signed.
Does that mean somewhere down the road a team won't eventually take a chance? I can't say. But as I've said every week for the past ... two months? I don't think it's happening this year.
Belli deal
1:50
Odds Bellinger comes back (off a decent year) for year two at $27.5M?
Steve Adams
1:50
If Bellinger has even an above-average season, he'll opt out.

Is the AL Central weak enough that the Royals could realistically take the division?
Steve Adams
1:51
No. They're much improved, but they won 56 games last year. Lugo, Wacha, Renfroe, Stratton, Smith, Frazier, etc. is a nice group to make them better, but they didn't get 30-35 games better with that collection of players.
Rangers
1:51
Even with the TV money concerns, are you surprised by the lack of splash from the Rangers this offseason? Montgomery aside, I expected more quality bullpen pieces rather than a few grabs from the lost and found reliever bin. The CBT might have scared them off of any major acquisitions, but it seems like they passed on about a dozen decent bullpen arms that went for relatively cheap.
Steve Adams
1:53
They gave David Robertson $11.5MM for one year. I wouldn't call that cheap/bargain bin.

That said, I also don't like that signing for them. If they're as tight on resources as is being made out, I'd much rather have seen that money go to a decent fourth starter. Or skip signing Mahle+Robertson all together (I do like the Mahle deal, in a vacuum) and put that money toward a more impactful rotation add. Heck at that point, the combined AAV probably isn't far from what it'd take to get Montgomery.

Bold strategy to spend 30m on the bullpen and do nothing else.
Steve Adams
1:54
The Angels have not had a good offseason.
Denny McLain

Don’t you think Lorenzens second half stats with the Phillies has scared most team away?
Steve Adams
1:54
I'm sure they did, to an extent. But look around the league at guys like Jordan Lyles getting 2/17 or Drew Smyly getting 2/19.... Lorenzen at 2/20 isn't really outlandish.

When will the Sox move Robert?
Steve Adams
1:55
Can't see it anytime soon. Four years of wildly affordable club control. A team would have to offer something borderline unprecedented.
St Pete Rob
1:55
Will Wander Franco ever play for the Rays & are the Rays still paying him?
Steve Adams
1:56
I doubt it. And I expect he'll end up on the restricted list soon, where he won't be paid.

Am i crazy for picking the Mariners to win the west? I love that starting group
Steve Adams
1:57
I love the Mariners' rotation and the back end of their bullpen, especially if Brash can make it back for most of the season. I don't think it's crazy, no. Picking any of Houston/Seattle/Texas in the west is defensible.

There is the ridiculous rumor that the Phillies are trying to trade for Kyle Tucker. Any truth to this rumor?
Steve Adams
1:59
One guy proposing a trade he thinks would be good for the Phillies is not a rumor. There's never been any indication the two sides have talked about a potential trade, and Astros GM Dana Brown has repeatedly spoken on the record about his desire to extend Tucker.

Steve Cohen will extend Polar Bear, won't he?
Steve Adams

I think the Mets will just let Alonso test free agency then match/beat whatever's out there -- similar to the Yankees/Judge.

Bradford has been really good, but would you consider Lauer to be better than Dunning or Heaney?
Steve Adams
2:00
I think at the price he'll likely command -- couple million maybe? -- and with an extra year of team control, Lauer makes sense for most pitching-needy clubs. Rangers included.
2:01
Even if he's not "better" than Dunning or Heaney -- I don't think he is, necessarily, though 2021-22 Lauer was very good -- odds are that injuries will necessitate cycling through 6-10 starters while the Rangers are waiting on deGrom, Scherzer and Mahle anyhow.

Who hangs up? Stanton and Peraza for Anthony Rendon
Steve Adams
2:02
I don't see why the Yankees would give up Peraza to take back a contract that might be even worse than Stanton's.
Is Cease's services needed more than ever now?
2:02
With the rash of pitchers having issues early on like Gray, Senga, Bradish, Means, now Giolito.  Doesn't it seem like the Sox would get an offer more to their liking, after asking for the moon?  What would it take the Cardinals to get him?  I was thinking something along the lines of Burleson and Edman/Carlson and another top 5 prospect?
