I really don't know -- he's way closer to the Hall than the voting reflects.
Steve Adams
3:37
Scott Rolen make HOF
Steve Adams
3:38
Should, but a lot of people won't go for him since so much of his value is rooted in defense.
Man -- one year, $3MM for Jon Jay says Rustin Dodd
Speaking of steals...
3:39
Career .355 OBP, no discernible platoon split, capable of playing all three OF slots
Really nice deal for KC
Steve Adams
3:40
I believe Paul Dejong comtract extension is.....
Steve Adams
3:42
Unnecessary? I mean, I don't think it's going to burn them all that much or anything, but DeJong's K rate and BABIP point to some big regression in his average, and that's the only thing propping up his OBP as long as he's walking at like a 4% clip. Cards love their spring extensions, but this one feels like a reach. If he can sustain the K/BB gains he had in September last year, though, it'll be fine.
3:43
Still unpacking this Jay to KC deal -- kind of baffled that the Orioles, who've reportedly been pining for a left-handed OF all winter, wouldn't top a measly $3MM guarantee for Jay.

That deal is really nice for Kansas City.

why is Steve Adams only answering Steve Adams questions?
Steve Adams
3:44
In truth, I got about 30 questions submitted by "my name" after I answered one, ha. I shouldn't have picked the first (nor should I have picked this one) since now I'm going to get 100 of them
Twins33
3:44
Why did the Twins let go of Chargois rather than Vargas prior to bringing in Morrison? Vargas will need to go either way.
Steve Adams
3:46
Chargois thing was definitely a head-scratcher, though the fact that he made it all the way to the Dodgers kind of speaks to me about other clubs' confidence in his ability to stay healthy. No way 28 teams pass on him if his medicals aren't somewhat scary, right? Not sure what the Vargas plan is though; there's really nowhere left for him on the roster, he's out of minor league options, and clubs are treating OBP-challenged 1B-only types like dime-a-dozen assets, so not like he's going to have any trade value.

3:47
Who are realistic trade candidates for the Reds at the trade deadline this year?
Steve Adams
3:48
I assume you mean candidates for them to trade away? Hamilton, Duvall I guess, Iglesias will be in high demand, Gennett, David Hernandez, Jared Hughes

How does draft pick compensation for free agents who turn down QO work?
Steve Adams
3:49
Here are our two looks at that process

Which pick each team would surrender for signing a QO free agent

Which pick the teams who lost those FAs would gain

What are chances Wheeler get a spot in the Starting Rotation and Matz-Lugo_Gsellman end up in the pen?
Steve Adams
3:50
I don't trust Wheeler to stay healthy enough to handle a full SP workload. I could say the same about Matz, but I think he's the more talented of the two so I'd give him that shot.

3:50
Thoughts of the Tigers rebuild in the early stages? Why do fans blame Al when DD gutted the system.
Steve Adams
3:52
Avila was the GM when they signed Zimmermann and Pelfrey. Dombro traded for Fulmer, Norris and Boyd before getting the boot.

Obviously Avila had a hand in those acquisitions as well, but the first impression of Avila in charge being Zimmermann and the inexplicable deals for Pelfrey and Mark Lowe isn't a great one.

Does Lucroy have ill-feelings towards Milwaukee? W/ Vogt being sidelined from catching for 2-3 weeks, you have to believe he and non-guaranteed contract won't go north to Wisconsin. A tandem of Pina/Lucroy makes sense, no?
Steve Adams
3:52
I don't believe he has any hard feelings there, no. I agree he makes sense and said as much last week:

Could Holland go back to the Royals if the price was right?  In theory they're not competing but he's been part of their org every year except 2017, he wouldn't really cost more than somebody like Brandon Morrow, and if he's good he could bring back a nice piece in July.
Steve Adams
3:53
I don't think the Royals are interested in signing guys for much more than the Duda/Jay price range ($3-4MM). Plus, he'd cost the Royals draft and international considerations as they're embarking on the early stages of a rebuild.

3:55
mike moustakas to pittsburgh ???
Steve Adams
3:56
No way the Bucs are spending that type of cash, to say nothing of the draft pick they'd forfeit. Plus, they made Colin Moran one of the centerpieces of the Cole trade for a reason; he's their third baseman and is going to get a long chance to prove he can be a useful one.
Billington
3:56
Colin MuHugh deserves to and must be a SP, chances he's traded in the next few weeks?
Steve Adams
3:58
He's absolutely good enough to start for most teams. He also happens to be on one of the few teams where he's their sixth-best option. That's unfortunate for him, but I doubt he minds all that much if it means a chance at another World Series ring.

There's no urgency for Houston to trade him, especially given that McCullers and Keuchel have had injuries lately. Plus Keuchel and Morton are free agents next winter, which could very well open a door for McHugh in the '19 rotation.

Neil Walker to Cleveland???
Steve Adams
3:59
I had Cleveland in that Walker post yesterday but honestly don't see quite enough of a need (or at least quite as easy a fit), and I imagine another team would be willing to spend more.

Neil Walker to the Angels makes some sense. Cowart doesn’t seem to be cutting it, and Cozart can cover SS on days Simba needs a rest. Walker could get his PA covering 1, 2, 3rd base and keeping players fresh.

Is the Simmons trade the worse of ATL rebuild trades? Newcomb just doesn't have it to me.
Steve Adams
4:00
It wasn't a great one, though giving up Alex Wood to bring in Hector Olivera probably takes the cake for worst deal.
Mike

Nats are poised to contend for a title and could use another SP and C help.  Why don't they get Lucroy and Arrieta (or one of Cobb/Lynn if not Arriea) and GO FOR IT?  For a team in their position I can't think of money better spent, agree?
Steve Adams
4:02
I do think they're the best and most realistic landing spot for both of those free agents. Doesn't mean they'll land there, but yeah I agree with the thinking.
Neil Walker
4:02
Personally for myself I feel Tampa works better then Cleveland or the Angels, thanks Steve.
Steve Adams
4:03
Rays make tons of sense too. And if they're worried about price, they'd save like $3.75MM by cutting Miller and paying him 30 days termination. Tack on another couple million and at this point who knows? Maybe that gets it done.

I would worry about Walker's back on turf, though, admittedly.
